Vintage Moog sound, in a completely reimagined machine.

The Sub Phatty takes everything that is vintage Moog, and packs it into a sound design machine that is both fresh and aggressive. It has 25 keys, 31 knobs and 13 switches that connect you directly to the analog heart of this powerful instrument. Its oscillators have been designed to perform with unmatched clarity and accuracy in any environment with no warm-up time necessary. They are fat, punchy and loaded with harmonic content.

A new Multidrive circuit in the filter section totally transforms the sound of this analog synthesizer into a screaming beast. Create gritty attack, asymmetrical distortion, and saturated hard-clipping sounds that tear through the densest mix.

The mixer section houses a powerful square wave sub oscillator designed to add depth, thickness and side splitting bass to any sound. In addition to this, a specially voiced noise generator has been incorporated for sculpting hard hitting, all analog percussion sounds and other sound effects.

The Sub Phatty joins the Moog arsenal with a new and boldly unique voice. Its engaging and dynamic interface fuses a connection between man & machine that opens the door to unprecedented sonic exploration.

  • A great way to jump into huge Moog sounds

As reviewed by Justin lewis on 9/19/2013

2 of Moog's second gen oscillators, a sub oscillator, Moog's ladder filter, Midi, full advanced editing over USB with excellent front panel editing for live performance. not much else to say --- awesome huge sound! keyboard is a bit cramped for any wide solos or baselines, but that's the only minus. otherwise, it's even phatter than my little phatty. A small keyboard with a big heart.

  • Absolutely Outstanding!

As reviewed by warren on 8/15/2014

Solid build, Great sound & well arranged. Knob placement is well thought out & shift mode gives you access to all functions, so you only really need a computer for patch saving & recall (beyond the 16 on board). I haven't been using those much because this synth is so much fun to play that I'd rather just do it myself than bother recalling. I own many virtual, a few digital & one other analog. They have all been idle since I brought this one home two weeks ago. Had to tear myself away to write the review.

  • Moog Sub Phatty vs. Dave Smith Mopho

As reviewed by Paul Vandervalk on 4/23/2014

I have a Sub Phatty and a Mopho. Both of which might be in the running for someone looking for a small high quality mono-synth. While both are absolutely great choices, here's what I like about the Moog: * Presets: The Moog has 16 presets which is a far cry from the large number the Mopho has. But the limitation actually forces you to be more creative on the fly. You'll use the knobs more over dialing through presets. * The Moog definitely has it in tone and ease of use. If you understand synth basics you can start shaping tones quickly and get tons of great sounds. * The overall quality is top notch. The instrument is solid from top to bottom. The documentation and accompanying software is on the money. This is respectable Moog keeping its traditions but keeping current with the times. * If you're thinking about exploring more of the CV side of synths this is it. The Sub Phatty gives you way more control. I'm running a EH 8-step program sequencer in the inputs but there's a lot of modular components out there to add in. This is the gravy for synth-heads. To sum it up the Sub Phatty is designed to be an instrument from knobs to keys. You'll find yourself reaching for the knobs over scanning through the presets. I've never played a Mini Moog but I imagine the Sub Phatty gives you many of the same qualities in an updated version.
