Thanks to the Moog Slim Phatty, real Moog sound now fits your back pack and your budget. The Slim Phatty's 100% analog signal path, intuitive user interface, rugged construction and rich MIDI, USB, and Control Voltage functionality make it a must-have for producers, touring musicians and DJs.
At just 17" wide, it goes where no other Moog has gone before. Earth-shaking basses, scorching leads and more are now housed in a high-quality instrument ideal for laptop artists and space conscious musical road warriors.
Based on the powerful Little Phatty sound engine, the Slim Phatty is the latest descendant of the iconic Minimoog Model D and features the classic Moog Ladder Filter, the touchstone of analog sound design.
In addition to shaping the sound of its on-board oscillators, the Slim Phatty's filter is a valuable production tool that can be used to process external audio, sweetening your favorite audio source with everything from smooth analog warmth through wet, resonant filter sweeps.
The Slim Phatty's convenient size makes it an ideal voice expander for your existing gear, with two oscillators of massive Moog sound that are always just a MIDI cable away. A new Tuning Scale feature and editor allows easy exploration of alternate scales and tunings. Microtonal, just intonation, quarter-tone, world music scales and more make the Slim Phatty an international traveler. Good thing it has a universal power supply!
In addition to the world of MIDI and USB gear, the Slim Phatty's Control Voltage inputs give it unlimited realms of expression and sound design possibilities. "Modular synth" style patching with Moogerfooger effects processors, the CP-251 Control Voltage Processor and other Moog synths (even The Moog Guitar!) creates soundscapes previously available only on large modular systems. Connecting to the Etherwave Plus Control Voltage Theremin or the MP-201 Multi-Pedal adds unique and intuitive new modes of expression.

I've had this synth for about ten days now, and I'm simply blown away. First off you have two oscillators that have complete waveform selection, and the ability to sync them. Then you have the legenday moog 24 db/octave lowpass filter for that really fat sound. Plus you get modern features like syncing the LFO to an outside source via midi, and the arppegiator that can also be synced to midi. And the usb port is perfect for syncing it all to your favorite DAW, or go the modular route and use the three CV inputs and gate input to get some extra sound out of your other analog synths. So if you are looking to get into the world of analog synthesis, or just looking for a sweet new sound, I reccomend no other product.
Personally I love the warm moog sound and the precise digital control. 100 presets that are pretty different from the lil phatty. Might be the only moog that you can fit in a normal sized bag and take anywhere. really easy to use. I love the filter. I can't say enough about the filter. so i'll let the other reviews do it. the pocket protector and sicker is a nice gift. i wish it did come with a manual not a cd with a pdf.
I do have a friend has an older arp who can't stand the slim phatty. He was even convinced that oscillators were digital.
So what i have learned from him
if you want that old analog moog sound you should probably get a prodigy, mg-1, rouge for around the same price give or take. or go all out and buy a mini moog model d. you will not get it from the newer ones they are just to precise. it will come pretty close but you won't be happy.
I pre-ordered my Moog SP and I have one of the first 5 units from regular production -- generally with a new product if there are going to be "bugs" to be ironed out they are going to surface in the early production models and thus, people often feel its wise to wait a while before moving forward to purchase something new on the market. Well, I can attest to the fact that with regular use my SP unit is working perfectly. The build-quality of this unit is excellent, the interface and the controls are intuitive and easy to navigate and the Slim Phatty is also a joy to behold, its no slouch in the Moog family of products despite it's very reasonable price. I also prefer a hard-copy manual but if you are familiar with basic synth architecture, you will be right at home operating it. When Bob Moog invented and patented, his Ladder Filter he "broke the mold" on electronically generated tone...If you want the Moog Sound, you have to get a Moog product. This product has that legendary sound at a price point that cant be beat -- these products are built to last a lifetime... I recommend it highly!
