Good Cable

By Robert Masterson

from Clovis,Ca

Despite the negative reviews I went ahead and bought the 6' version of this cable. It just did not seem logical that Monster Cable would put out something as bad as the reviews said it was. When I got it home I got out my ohm meter and checked continuity between the relative connections. The pins show proper connection between the three upper pins. That is the center pin and the two pins on each side of it. The lower pins of the half circle are not used in a standard DIN connection, which is what a MIDI cable uses. The connections are: Pin 2 = center and is the connection for the shield. Pin 5 = negative and is at the 1:30 clock position as viewed from behind. Pin 4 = positive and is at the 10:30 clock position as viewed from the rear. As stated the lower pins numbered 1 and 3 are not used. The DIN connector case is not connected to the shield wire. Again all three connections show proper continuity between the two ends. Also, the pin orientation is the same for both ends in a MIDI cable, unlike phone wiring to a modular jack.

Great Cable for standard MIDI-DIN connection (3 pin hot)

By Robert Masterson

from Clovis, Ca

I purchased this cable for use as a driver feedback cable for a vintage Velodyne Subwoofer. It worked perfectly because it uses a 3 pin connection. That is, the upper three wires are connected and the lower two are not (3 pin hot as other reviewers state. This is the standard connection but some newer devices use 4-5 pin hot connections. This cable will not work with those devices. It does not mean the cable sucks or whatever. It just means that it will only work with devices that use only the three top pins. If you have a device that needs more than three pins connectivity than you need a compatible cable. Some manufactures are making DIN connections that wire all 5 pins for greater compatibility. Just get one of those if you need it.

Not Good for Cyber Twin 4 Button Foot switch

By Mark Reinking

from Rocklin, CA

I purchased this cable to connect the 4 button foot switch (stock) to my Fender Cyber Twin amplifier. Unfortunately, only 2 of the 4 buttons worked. I disconnected & reconnected several times and kept getting the same results. So, I exchanged it for another brand and the foot switch worked perfectly. Perhaps it is not meant for midi guitar foot switches.

Wired 3-Pin Hot

By Mike A

from Colorado

Found out the hard way that these cables won't work with my MIDI setup because they are wired 3-pin hot. Not sure what three pins these are, but I seriously doubt it's what Monster claims to be "MIDI standard". Don't waste your time with these. I bought a Live Wire cable for 1/5 the cost. And it actually works!!! I'll never by a Monster cable again.

Bad pin - Waste of Time

By Matt W

from Meridian, Texas

Unfortunately, we wasted a day trying to figure out why the new rig wasn't responding to the midi controller. With having just pulled the cable out of the packaging, it took a while to consider that the brand new cable could be bad, but it was. Popped it on a cable tester and it obviously had a bad pin. Very frustrating and a serious waste of limited time.
