The MA-201 fet is a large diaphragm, phantom-powered, solid-state condenser microphone with a fixed cardioid pattern. With its roots in a lineage of microphone designs by David Royer, one of an elite group of microphone designers who know that music and sound are inseparable from electronic design, the MA-201 FET
Microphone offers warm, full-bodied reproductions of vocals and instruments, with none of the shrillness and high frequency distortion artifacts that are often encountered with modern condenser microphones.

Using a 3-micron gold-sputtered capsule, high-quality Jensen audio transformer, military-grade FET and custom designed low-noise resistors, the MA-201 FET performs at a level reminiscent of some of the best loved classic condenser microphones. Each Mojave MA-201 FET microphone is carefully tested and evaluated, then packaged in its protective case with a professional grade shockmount.

A great vocal mic

By Jeremy

from Ft Collins, Co

Comments about Mojave Audio MA-201 FET Large Diaphragm Condenser Microphone:

I added the MA-201 to the mic locker and have been very impressed with the tonal character it gives on a wide range of vocalist's from female to male. It Has a very distinct rich, fat and thick sound that is very pleasing on vocals. Among a couple of other mics in the locker that cost more, the MA-201 has become one of my favorite go to fet's for singers and spitters. I highly recommend the MA-201 for anyone looking for a good all rounder mic. I haven't used it on anything but vocals as of this point so I can't say the results on anything else, but am 100% confident it will shine on most anything. Hope this review helps

Comments about Mojave Audio MA-201 FET Large Diaphragm Condenser Microphone:

As someone who has purchased the MA-201 fet microphone, and attempted to use it in my capacity of an audio book narrator, I would suggest that you save your money and buy anything else. A Shure 57 would be a better investment. It is without hesitation on my part the worst microphone I have ever had the misfortune to purchase. i purchased one for my long form audio sessions based on "good reviews". Not sure how how much the reviewers were paid, but they should be ashamed of themselves for giving a good review.

I used the same settings on my own audio chain, mic into a dbx286, into an edirol UA5 into the Dell computer using Adobe audition, to make a comparison.

With my usual mic, the AT4040, I recorded 30 seconds of audio. Then I turned off phantom power and replaced the 4040 with the MA-201. After turning phantom back on, I recorded the same 30 seconds of audio.

The Mojave audio level was about half that of the AT4040. Worse yet, the Mojave had one hell of a noise floor. After normalizing to -3db, (which is standard for audio book recording) the noise floor, as expected, also increased. It was completely unacceptable and unusable. I swapped cables as I considered that as a possibility. No change. In the end, my experiment with the Mojave MA-201 fet left me with nothing more a paper weight costing approximately twice that of the AT4040.

Save your money. Leave Mojave alone. They're not worth the hype and not worth the money.
