Incredible bass

I've owned this bass for about a year now and am loving it. I'm a big fan of musicman basses for their big round sound and was looking at a five string when a sales rep showed me this bass. It has an even bigger sound than the musicman basses. Better tone as well. I haven't played every type of bass out there but I'm impressed with the dynamic response of this bass. It responds to how soft or hard you play beautifully. Also it is the lightest five string I've put on my shoulder. I love the carbon fiber neck, super fast and true. It's great to know the neck will never warp. However I do agree that it is overpriced, but if you can afford it I highly reccomend getting one.

I really wanted to like this bass

I played this bass when it first came out at the GC in Raleigh. Being a HUGE Flea fan (as most bassists are), I had high expectations. Almost all of them were let down. I was there with a drummer friend and guitarist friend of mine, and they agreed! This is a good funk bass, as it is one of the brightest basses on earth. The tone is really thin coming out of this thing though. I don't know if it's the carbon fiber neck, pickup/preamp combo onboard, whatever. For what you're really getting with this bass, it is very overpriced. I don't like unitasker basses, and frankly, my 7 yr old Yamaha RBX sounded better to me than this bass did, and it has Basslines pix and active electronics comparible to this bass. Make sure you play it first so that you know exactly what you're getting.
