Bought this guitar after playing one for awhile in store and got it in the Honeyburst. Absolutely solid guitar that I am still finding new ways to get different tone out of it after playing it pretty much nonstop for three days. This guitar plays better than any Les Paul or ESP EC model that I've played. Extremely versatile as well! I've been playing it through a Marshall DLS40C and have been able to get crisp cleans and crunchy distortion and have played anything from soft rock to metal and it all sounds good. Would definitely recommend going in and playing one for yourself!

Ok guitar but there are far better for the $$$

By Paul the Paul guy

Comments about Mitchell MS400 Modern Single-Cutaway Electric Guitar:

I came into the store wanting to check out some various guitars. The salesman showed me a lineup of new guitars the store just got and this was the most attractive of the bunch so I decided to try it out. It played ok but not great and just felt like more expensive ltd. I played the LTD ec256 which felt much nicer and sturdier than the mitchell plus its 50 dollars cheaper (WOW MORE GEAR MONEY!)

Comments about Mitchell MS400 Modern Single-Cutaway Electric Guitar:

I bought this guitar because of how good it felt in my hands. No sharp fret edges, nice smooth neck very comfortable. The guitar is light weight but sturdy. Solid and smooth electronics. No fret buzz. Nice locking tuners. Setup a breeze. No complaints especially at this price range. There is no need to mod it, the pickups are great. This guitar has the tone I've been looking for in guitars.

Nice low to mid level guitar

By Jon

Pros

  • Beautiful design
  • Fast neck
  • Great feel
  • Great range from mellow blues to biting attack
  • Nice single coil option

Cons

  • Raised bridge

Best Uses

Comments about Mitchell MS400 Modern Single-Cutaway Electric Guitar:

Feels and looks great. Nice weight and balance. The only complaint I have is that when palm muting it trends to get a little sharp. I attribute this to the raised bridge compared to what I am used to, so it may just be me that has to adjust

Its a beautiful playing guitar and sounds great plus it offers nice premium features. This is the guitar you want! Mitchell is no longer just acoustic guitars and they are here to stay.

Comments about Mitchell MS400 Modern Single-Cutaway Electric Guitar:

I never heard of Mitchell guitars but tried an orange MS400 in the store. I was pleasantly surprised how good it sounded with it's Alnico 5 humbuckers. The action is low and fast and even throughout the neck. The guitar looked like it was really well made. I liked that it was thinner (lighter) than a standard Les Paul but still put out the same punch. It also has the pullout plug to change pickups to singles and the volume knob is closer like a strat. Locking tuners are standard. There is very nice woodwork lining the fret board instead of cheap plastic. I can't find a single thing wrong or say anything bad about this guitar. This guitar is good for all uses. I don't know how long Mitchell guitars have been around, but one day it might blossom into one of the better companies.

Comments about Mitchell MS400 Modern Single-Cutaway Electric Guitar:

From MItchell's inexpensive acoustic guitars, the fit and finish issues led me to believe Mitchell produced just low end, low quality instruments. I saw one of these Honeyburst models and it was sufficently pretty that I decided to pick it up and plug it in. First off, the finish is very nice. I found none of the fit and finish issues found on their cheap acoustics. The neck felt good, but the fretboard felt very flat. Gibson typically uses a 12" radius, which I am used to, but the quoted 11.8" radius on this one felt flatter to me. Nonetheless, it played well with no fret buzz. I was most surprised by the tone out of these pickups. In humbucker mode the neck pick was very clear, more vintage like. It would probably be great for anything this side of metal. Metal players may prefer a more overwound pickup. The bridge seemed decent though I never cranked it. Again, metal players may want an overwound pickup. I was very surprised when I switched to single coil mode. The bridge pickup sounded pure Tele, the best coil-tapped sound I've heard from anyone. For me, that extends the range of this guitar greatly. The neck pickup sounded okay, but a little thin compared to a Strat or Tele, but very usable. The only issues I had were 1) the strings were cheap Chinese strings and probably 9's, though the 4th, 5th and 6th strings seemed very light. That said, still great tone out of these skinny strings. 2) The nut grabbed a little bit. It is supposed to be Tusq material but still it grabbed the G string. It probably needs a minor filing adjustment. I already have 14 guitars at home so I didn't buy this, but I felt compelled to write a review to let others know how nice this guitar is.

MITCHELL MS 400 IS A SUPER BUY. GREAT APPOINTMENTS FOR THE RELATIVELY LOW PRICE. LOCKING TUNERS, FRET WORK EXCELLENT, INTONATION SPOT ON, TONS OF SUSTAIN. WENT ON LINE TO SEE REVIEWS AND COULDN'T BELIEVE IT WAS TRUE. PURCHASED FROM GC, AND FOUND OUT IT IS TRUE. IF THINKING ABOUT A CHEAPER LES PAUL, OR EPI, PLEASE CHECK THIS OUT FIRST, YOU'LL BE PLEASANTLY SURPRISES.

I played one of these at my local GC and was quite impressed. Felt like a much more expensive guitar. Had them order one for me (the display had a chipped head stock). It arrived several days later. Upon opening the box I found the guitar wrapped well and snug in the box. After tuning I found the intonation was off slightly and the pups needed to be adjusted. Otherwise the guitar is first rate. Fit and finish are high quality. Very impressed. So much so that I think I am going to get the double cut away version now too!
