I played one of these while trying out and eventually purchasing a Randall Diavlo 212 and I was thoroughly impressed. I immediately when home and ordered one that hadn't been "handled" by the masses. It features neck-thru construction, quality wood, locking tuners, above average pickups, coil tapping, a custom nut....what else do you need? Also, the finish was nearly flawless, too.
However, after unpacking, tuning it, and hitting that first E, the wind quickly left my sails. I was expecting a monstrous wave of sound only to hear the squeak of a first act with a speaker built into it. For some reason the bridge pickup had very little output compared to all of the other selections using the toggle. I believe there is a short in the toggle switch or a loose or miss soldered wire in it. Back it went for a replacement.
Like the previous reviewer said. 5 stars for fit, finish, and play ability (seriously tho, I own other extremely expensive axes and this one is comparable) one star off for the poor QC. I don't want to add to a possible negative trend on these by giving an overall poor rating because the market sorely needs this kind of potential at this price point. I just hope GC can clear up these QC issues quickly. Its too nice of a product to have this kind of careless oversight.

With some of the other reviews I've read, I almost expected something to be wrong. All of the knobs for the volume & tone controls were WAY loose & needed to be tightened back up.....not a big deal but....it's a $300+ guitar...right? Everything else is ok...I don't care for the tapered neck. It goes from baseball bat to slim... Overall sound is ok but not great, like some of the reviews claim. My $250 Jackson JS32 sounds WAY better.

Comments about Mitchell MD400 Modern Rock Double-Cutaway Electric Guitar:

Before marketing, advertising and selling this truly beautiful, well-crafted instrument even a novice would have expected--and correctly so--a guitar that was wired correctly. Even the GC staff admitted they were puzzled when attempting to set up/demo the pickups. No one could tell me if the bottom knob was for tone, coil splitting, or coil tapping. While it sounded absolutely fabulous (played through a Bugera V22...'cause it was on), all of my attempts to adjust tone were hopeless. The pup selector switch was on the nebulous side, and I couldn't really figure out if there were 5 pup combinations (like a Strat) or 3. If whoever they're buying it from in China can do just a MINUTE of QA on the wiring, they would REALLY be producing a great-sounding, beautiful instrument. Shame on the manufacturer, shame on Guitar Center Corp., and sympathies to the GC staff, who end up looking like dunces through no fault of their own. [Couldn't give it a "1" because the guitar was a real "looker" so a "2" accounts for the faulty wiring. What a shame.]

Comments about Mitchell MD400 Modern Rock Double-Cutaway Electric Guitar:

Ok the curiosity got the better of me one day while browsing my local GC. I am normally a super strat type player, you know the ones; Floyd roses, dual hot humbuckers, anything that shreds! I had been looking for a reasonably priced fixed bridge type guitar for experimenting with heavier string gauges, different tunings and what not. So I stumbled upon the Mitchell MD 400. The one I could not take my eyes off was the natural finish, just stunning to behold. I had been aware of the Mitchell brand guitars but my own headstock snobbery wouldn't give them the time of day. Made in China, GC's owns the brand I just didn't figure they would be any good but I was wrong!!

The fit and finish of the guitar was outstanding the locking tuners felt nice, binding on the neck was beautiful the quilted maple top veneer was breath taking and the fret work was outstanding.

Ill be honest, I talked myself out of purchasing it because I just didn't need another guitar at the moment, I have close to 40 of the things cluttering my guitar room. After going home I couldn't get it out my head so I did the research and found them to be made of mahogany, that's a plus, the more I researched the more I wanted it. I returned the following week to find GC's annual Guitarathon to be in full swing and the price had been reduced quite alot, so it became mine.
Once I got it home and plugged it in, I was pleased with it's tone and sustain. It felt great in the hands but took me a bit to get used to it. After playing it for a week now, I love it so much I ordered another Mitchell. This time I opted for the MS 400, thier version of the Les Paul, I eagerly await it's arrival.
I really like this guitar alot, been playing for 35 years and have had the pleasure of owning many high quality guitars and I would rank this up there with them. I do not consider this an entry level instrument at all. Well done GC.

I am soon retiring and met with my son to pick a guitar to play together with him. I had a 1969 Les Paul back in the day. We looked at them all today and we just couldn't find better for the price. Pick one up and play it. Can't wait to get back into it.

Comments about Mitchell MD400 Modern Rock Double-Cutaway Electric Guitar:

I wrote of my experiences a few months ago and hammered Guitar Center Corp on putting an inferior product on prominent display. In the interest of fairness, I auditioned this Mitchell model again. Two words: HOME RUN! They've fixed the wiring issue and have brought to this world a masterpiece of a reasonably priced instrument to the amateur and professional world alike: shaped like a strat, coil tapping expands the tone. If you can't afford this one, no worries, because Mitchell was smart enough to provide two others with essentially the same pup array. I'm pretty confident that this axe can take a budding guitarist to stage performer to recording/studio musicians without a hitch. [Now I want one and am finding excuses to sell some of my gear in order to buy it outright (since I don't want to be beholden to GC's credit card mafiosos).]

I just purchased one of these guitars today at my local guitar center in the natural finish.
I own higher end guitars and this Mitchell feels just as good as them.
It actually comes set up from the factory, and in my opinion the action is perfect.
I love the look of the Indian rosewood fret board ( it's almost as black as ebony ).
The guitar plays like butter and it looks great.

This is a great feeling and playing guitar, the neck is very les Paul feeling. It is also a very lite guitar maybe seven pounds which is great but it is taking me a little bit to get use too since my other guitars are all at least ten or more pounds.the neck pickup is a little bit muddy, but the bridge pickup sounds fantastic! I bought the natural wood color and love it however I am thinking about returning it and getting the transparent green instead.

Not the guitar it's hyped up to be. Still for the $$ not a bad shredder. Light weight body is smaller than most double cutaway models. The neck is fat close to an LP. Sustain is great as with most thru-body necks. Hardware is best feature. This will be my backup/alt-tuning guitar.

Comments about Mitchell MD400 Modern Rock Double-Cutaway Electric Guitar:

The sustain IMO is pretty good. The neck is very Les Paul and for the price you get a lot of features that you might later try to hot rod on a cheapo purchase. Locking tuners, TUSQ nut, and it coil taps. I like the hot rails for bending notes and even out of the box it was set up well. It is feature rich and light, light, light...
My only gripe is that it's lead/bridge sound is "mehh". I would have opted for a straight up single coil regardless of coil splitting for some nice leads to offset that nice chunky bridge PUP.
Mitchell has provided a great blend of style and features to satisfy a great portion of people that don't want to break the bank or don't want a P.O.C.

I haven't had an electric guitar since High School almost 40 years ago. I've always kept an acoustic around.
I actually went in to buy my son an electric and ended up buying this for myself. Great easy to play feel on this guitar. It felt softer and easier to play than the Fender's in higher price points.

Love the guitar except for the black dye getting on my fingertips from the frets.

Comments about Mitchell MD400 Modern Rock Double-Cutaway Electric Guitar:

It would be a five star rating except but some issues make it a four. The pick-up/volume knobs are recessed in the body and two of the three rub on the inside of the hole when turned. The ribbon that is wrapped around the pick-up was glued on crooked. The fit and placement of the recessed guitar output jacket isn't a great fit with your cable. It plays great and and the pups sound great but I would have returned it if I did not get a great price. I definitely would not pay close to list for it as you could get a better guitar that is a brand name. Definitely worth the sale price I paid.

I grabbed his in GC and plugged into Blackstar ID:Core stereo and Awesome tones. I played a riff from Cliffs of Dover to BlackvVeilBrides and sounded great. People looked not because of my poor playing but the Sound, harmonics and the low-mids voicing.

The neck is perfect with smaller hands, neck is fast and no trouble sliding from fret to fret.

I am seriously thinking of getting one.

This guitar is excellent for the money. I actually traded my 2015 American start hss shawbucker for this guitar. It out performed my start in almost every level. with the coil tap feature you can get some start tones, and u add some distortion with that bridge pickup and u can play things like All That Remains or Killswitch Engage,
