Great Guitar

By

from Random Lake, WI

Comments about Mitchell MD200S Solid-Top Dreadnought Acoustic Guitar:

I got this guitar about a year and a half ago, and I have to say, it remains one of the nicest acoustics I've played. It has a great, warm sound and is extremely versatile. I can play anything from Stairway to Heaven to some Jack Johnson. If you're planning on getting an electric later on, this is a great training guitar. The acoustic sound makes mistakes more noticeable, which makes them easier to correct quickly. Plus, the more sturdy acoustic strings help build muscle memory for tricky electric riffs and solos. My guitar rarely falls out of tune, and the strings are just now starting to wear out, which is surprising, because I play at least three hours a day. My one problem with this guitar is that the neck has a gloss finish, which causes your hands to stick when they get sweaty, but that only comes after hours of playing. Overall, this is a fantastic guitar, especially for the price. I would recommend it to beginners and intermediates alike.

The sound is deep, warm, rich and balanced.

By

from CT

Comments about Mitchell MD200S Solid-Top Dreadnought Acoustic Guitar:

I have been looking for an acoustic guitar for many months but most guitars in the $200 to $300 range sounded shallow or tinny, they didn?t have the deep and balanced sound I was looking for. I would go to the guitar store and play a $1,000 Martin, which I like and can?t afford, and compare other guitars to it. While this Mitchell doesn?t sound quite as rich, deep and balanced as the Martin, it is really close. While the sound is great, the setup is poor. Once I lower the action, I will have a guitar that sounds very close to a Martin. If you want a guitar that is bright this is not the guitar for you but if you want a guitar that sound almost like a Martin at 1/4 the price, this is the one.

This guitar blows me away!

By

from Mt. Vernon, IL

Comments about Mitchell MD200S Solid-Top Dreadnought Acoustic Guitar:

I own 2 Ovation Legends (1978 and 2010). Both great guitars in their own right. But you can't beat the sound of all wood. I have played Taylor 814's and Martin GPCPA1's. I'm not going to say it sounds every bit as good as they do, but I have to tell you, this guitar rocks. And for $249, it's a no-brainer. Apples and oranges? I don't think so. I challenge anyone to find a better sounding guitar under $600. I don't think you can. I am certainly not a professional. I play occasionally at church. The other 95% of the time is in my home office. But I am a "pragmatic perfectionist". Meaning, I won't accept anything short of great sound, but I'll accept ANY make and model if it fits that criteria. I don't have to be a name dropper. Because Mitchells are not under the same QC as Martins and Taylors, you may get a "dud" from time to time. That's why you have to play what you buy. I bought this off the wall at GC after many side-by-side comparisons. I asked for one in the box, but the action was terrible. It blows away the Big Baby Taylor, not to mention their 3/4 sized guitars which, to me, sound like toys. The low end on this guitar is warm, rich and clear. The top strings are crisp and clear, as well. This dreadnought doesn't seem to give up the highs. Overall volume is loud. Was this a fluke? Don't know. But there is no way I will part with this one. For you photographers, this is like buying a Holga that turns out to perform like a Leica. Yea, it's that good. Oh, BTW, I think I'm going to sell My new Ovation Legend LX. This is my NEW favorite guitar.

Nicely Done

By

from Cypress, CA

Comments about Mitchell MD200S Solid-Top Dreadnought Acoustic Guitar:

I purchased this guitar for my daughter that had been playing my 1970's vintage Sigma that always had a nice big sound and was build very well by Martin in Japan. After playing this guitar since CHristmas - don't tell my daughter, I believe it is the best value of anything out there and if you can catch it on-sale or $50.00 off - that would even be better. I did not and it is still worth every dollar spent. Great big sound. Far exceeds beginner status. I may get one for myself as a second guitar. Play it along with the Yamahas and other within the price point and see what you think. The solid spruce top and two pice back is very nice. All in all a fantactic value.

A good guitar for the price

By

Comments about Mitchell MD200S Solid-Top Dreadnought Acoustic Guitar:

Letting my Mom get me a guitar for my birthday was a big mistake. It didn't take me long to realize that the guitar she got me wasn't that great. But I soon returned to the store and traded it for this one. It sounds great, although there is a lot of buzzing. It also holds tune very well for such a low priced guitar.

Review from a somewhat experienced guitar player.

By

from Buenos Aires, Argentina

Comments about Mitchell MD200S Solid-Top Dreadnought Acoustic Guitar:

After reading hundreds of reviews, and doing tons of research looking for the best possible guitar for the price, I decided to go for this model. I have to say, that the guitar is indeed well built, and the quality is amazing for the price. The sound is crisp and rich, the finish and the looks are great and the solid top is nice (the spruce used for it was a little young though) BUT.. I dunno if I had bad luck, but the frets on my unit were really messed up, and felt like sandpaper everytime I pulled a string for vibrato. I took it to a luthier in order to get them polished, and the action lowered a lil bit, and that took care of the issue. Oh, and I d like to recommend installing a bone nut and saddle, it really makes a difference. I also put a set of light elixir strings, and my fingerstyle sounds angel-like. Dont be afraid to buy it, Its a really sweet piece of work, and I love watching it leaning against the stand, its almost decorative =D. And YES, it does sound like a way more expensive guitar. Even my luthier gave me props for the purchase.

Great tone, Great Action Low$

By

from Berkeley CA

Comments about Mitchell MD200S Solid-Top Dreadnought Acoustic Guitar:

Very crisp, full tone. Rings like a bell. Not dull, not tinney. Better than the Fender, Ibanez -- and to my surprise, the Yamahas in the same price range. Great action. Nice finish and workmanship. I play a Martin D28 -- this MD200S is my "beach guitar." It's made in Indonesia; I've had very good luck with that from Squier. Worth buying; not junk (like the rest). This is a very nice sounding, playable guitar for a great price. GR
