This guitar was purchased as a gift for an intermediate player.I checked out everything in the store's inventory for appearance, construction, string action height, neck straightness, fret edge finishing(a big problem on some others in this price range)body and neck binding match-the whole thing but most importantly,TONE. The intended recipient wanted a slightly smaller body than some of the dreadnoughts on the market so I was skeptical of this guitar's just slightly smaller dimensions(than, say,a larger dreadnought although it's classed as one) to produce good low end response. I was surprised to hear good clean lows and a good range with no unwanted buzz. The action is low and fast, the fretboard well done.I have been checking and fixing instruments for many years now and play out as well.I have several guitars including a hand picked Taylor 514c(cedar top grand auditorium)No,the Mitchell does not have the resonance or the projection of the Taylor-it's not in that class-but I would not hesitate to play a gig with it.I would definitely equalize it with the PA to maximize the guitar's potential and just leave the on board at neutral. To summarize, this guitar was extremely playable, had great tone and sounded better than many others at this price.I may go back and get one for a back-up road unit.Only negative is that the written material seemed to be done by someone who should be more familiar with the english language. HINT:If you have smaller children, get a hard case for your guitar.

Well it has a great sound, with that solid spruce top, and it plays easily, with good access to higher frets. I loved it dearly for about six months. It's much easier on the hands that the Yamaha I traded it for. It's much easier to play and much better sounding than the 1800 dollar Taylor a friend has loaned me. The problem? Darn battery. Battery terminals and connection were shoddy. Battery kept falling out of its slot. Had a gig one night and the battery went out with a big screech. Couldn't change it without changing the strings, and even then getting at it was a pain in the neck. Not good in the middle of a show. Sold it.

Mitchell Acous/Elec. stands up with brilliance

By AL

from Chicago

Comments about Mitchell MD100SCE Dreadnought Cutaway Acoustic-Electric Guitar:

I have owned my Mitchell MD-100 CE for about nine years now. It sounds great with Martin (Studio SP) strings and withstands some good bumps and hits. The Grover pins hold the strings in place well so you don't have to tune it that often at all. One note of caution: since the electric input works off a 9-volt battery, spend a little extra cash to get a good battery. Also, you have to undo one or two strings to replace the battery but the 9-volt does last a long time though. Iۡve never, ever had any problems with it. This is an awesome guitar for the low price. Highly recommend it!

Mitchell MD 100 SCE

By Mark Campbell

from Buffalo, NY

Comments about Mitchell MD100SCE Dreadnought Cutaway Acoustic-Electric Guitar:

For the money you can't beat this guitar. I lowered the action and added new strings and the sound is very balanced. No buzz anywhere on the neck, I think the solid spruce top is what makes this sound better than the guitars I tried in this price range. The salesman at GC had me try this guitar after playing several others and I came back to this one and ended up buying it. The electronics are simple to use and get a good sound. Good deal.

Great Value

By Mike

from St Paul, Mn

Comments about Mitchell MD100SCE Dreadnought Cutaway Acoustic-Electric Guitar:

This guitar is a great value. The solid spruce top provides a decent range of tones which is way better than than a total laminate or plywood guitar. The guitar has good playability and stays in tune although the action is a little high. The binding, rosette, and bridge are crafted well. I have an expensive all solid Martin 00016gte which I love but am really impressed with this Mitchell. I am really impressed with the piezo electronics- good range of tones. Please do not let the lesser known brand name and low price keep you from trying out this well crafted guitar. As with any mass produced instrument, play a couple until you find the one that feels good in your hand.

Comments about Mitchell MD100SCE Dreadnought Cutaway Acoustic-Electric Guitar:

I've had this guitar for 6 months now, and i'm very happy with my purchase. It has a very nice, full tone and the neck has a great feel. It's definetely not the best, but a great guitar for the price. I havent played much with it plugged in, but it sounds the mic sounds good too. I would recommend this guitar to beginners as well as experienced guitar players.

Comments about Mitchell MD100SCE Dreadnought Cutaway Acoustic-Electric Guitar:

Great guitar, it seems that a lot of people have complained about the battery being inside the body of the guitar.....I think it's a great idea, it reminds me that when the battery dies it's time to change strings...:)

Comments about Mitchell MD100SCE Dreadnought Cutaway Acoustic-Electric Guitar:

brought this guitar after trying out many guitars, actually had gone to get a martin, but ended up buying this one. Doesnt have any buzz sound as well as sounds really clean plugged in and also using a effect pedal makes it sound far better, The only con is the battery cannot be replaced from outside. Would give it 5 stars comparing to its price range.

As Good as my Martin

By Gregory

from Lakewood Colorado

Comments about Mitchell MD100SCE Dreadnought Cutaway Acoustic-Electric Guitar:

Ok so my title is a little off. Picked up a Martin and this Mitchell as well as 2 Les Paul's and a Fender Stratacaster. Tho it is bigger than the Martin it is lighter. New strings out of the box as I do with all guitar's And that is when I noticed the battery location. Let's just say this has got to be the poorest location you could pick. Ok besides the fact your going to restring it every time you need to replace battery. Also a note on using a strap. Not going to happen no place to mount at the neck. That my friend just makes me mad. Ok on with the test. $1,200.00 Martin $249.00 Mitchell. Play is very rich and clean no buzz or dead spots at all. Hook up to an amp and you see the difference right away. You will need to turn up amp volume 2 clicks. and you will get some hummmmm if you go to far. with the volume at max on he guitar the AT-3000 control's just suck. This is going to have to be replaced ASAP if your going Electric for the most playing. As an Acoustic it is top notch it looks great stay's in tune

Quality guitar at a good price

By Dan

from texas

Comments about Mitchell MD100SCE Dreadnought Cutaway Acoustic-Electric Guitar:

I love this guitar!!! I began playing guitar about 6 months ago and this is my first guitar. I played several of much higher price and this one played better than them all. No set up was required either. I took it to a local shop when I got it and they told me that there was absolutely no reason to mess with it and wanted to know everything about it. I have several much more experienced buddies I play with and they usually start playing mine (and drop their Gibsons and Martins) and won't give it back!!! Great sound...great feel and awesome through a Peavey Max 112. Definitely put some elixir med. lights on it and it will shine.

Excellent

By Chris Anselmo

from Connecticut

Comments about Mitchell MD100SCE Dreadnought Cutaway Acoustic-Electric Guitar:

I got this guitar as a Christmas gift 3 years ago. I always thought it was a nice guitar but never 'fell in love' with it. However, i have always been bad about keeping up with changing the strings, so i recently enrolled in the GC String Club. I was reading up on strings and heard so many pros about Elixir strings. Most people though, said they loved the strings on top of the line guitars (Taylor, Martins..I think any strings will sound good on expensive guitars) so i put them to the test and put a set on my Mitchell MD100. Ever since then i have 'Fallen in love' with this guitar. I feel a little guilty that I play this one much more than a $400 dollar fender that I just bought a few months ago. Anyway, great price, still in excellent shape after 3 years, and it looks/sounds great!

Comments about Mitchell MD100SCE Dreadnought Cutaway Acoustic-Electric Guitar:

This is, without a doubt, one of the best bang for your buck guitars. It has a consistent smooth tone, never requires much tuning, and looks great!

I've owned this for around 6 years, and it has never let me down the entire time that I've owned it. My friends (Which include some professional musicians) never believe me when I tell them how cheap this guitar is; Some of them even agree that this plays better than their $2000+ martins/Taylors!
I can't comment on the stock electronics, however, because when I bought my guitar used someone had already replaced them, but judging from other reviews I think that the electronics aren't very good stock. If you replace them, however, this guitar will be one of the best investments that you have ever made.

Great Guitar for Beginners or Pros!

    By Nick

Comments about Mitchell MD100SCE Dreadnought Cutaway Acoustic-Electric Guitar:

This was the first guitar I have ever purchased, and I've had it for about a year. I am still in awe of the low price and very high quality of this guitar. The solid top is what sets it aside from the rest of the guitars in the same price range. It is great for beginners and a very solid intermediate guitar.

    Great Starter!

    By Megan

    from Rawlins, WY

Comments about Mitchell MD100SCE Dreadnought Cutaway Acoustic-Electric Guitar:

I bought this guitar about a month ago and I love it! The tone is great, its got a slightly more narrow neck which is good for a beginner. I like the versatility of having the electric (though I haven't used it yet. The cutaway is beautiful, and it has a gourgeous stripe down the back. This is a much higher quality guitar than you can typically get in the beginner kits, and I got it for a great price at Guitar Center. They are very helpful in the store and devote a lot of time to helping you choose the right instrument for you. Cons: no place to hook a strap to. 9V battery is located inside the guitar so you have to remove the strings to change it. Not a big deal.

No better guitar in its price range

    By Trey

    from Arlington, TX

Comments about Mitchell MD100SCE Dreadnought Cutaway Acoustic-Electric Guitar:

This a really great guitar, for the person on a budget this is the one to buy, has great tone both plugged and unplugged and has good action, solid body, and doesn't look half bad. The only negatives is that the 9V battery is inside the guitar and the only way to change it is to stick your hand into the sound hole after removing the strings. Other than that its a great guitar for the beginner to intermediate player.

Comments about Mitchell MD100SCE Dreadnought Cutaway Acoustic-Electric Guitar:

This guitar produces a good tone and can project very well. However, when replacing the battery, you must remove the guitar strings first and reach into the sound hole to get the battery. I recommend this for its sound, but takes too much time to replace a simple 9V battery.
