Great sound! Great Looks!

By William Latsha

Comments about Mitchell MBJ200 Deluxe 5-String Banjo:

I am pretty much a beginner Banjo picker. I have been learning on an older no-name Banjo with Maple neck and resonator, and an aluminum "pot". The more I played with it the less I liked the sound of the all aluminum pot. I went to the Lancaster, PA, Guitar Center to look at the Fender FB54, and this Mitchell MBJ200. I was attracted to these two by the Fender name, and the Wood Tone Ring of the Mitchell. I picked on the Fender, and then picked on this Mitchell. I loved the warm smooth bright tone from this Mitchell, I picked on several other Banjos, but after every time came back to this Mitchell MBJ200. So I made a deal and took it home with me. I LOVE IT! The Sustain of the played notes seems to last forever. The sound is bright but not harsh or metallic like the Fender. The Mahogany neck and tone ring give it a sound I love. It really looks great too!. The bright shiny metal parts stand out against the pretty red mahogany finish. The inlays in the fretboard are precise and nicely done. It has all 5 geared string tuners too! When I took it home I removed the resonator, and snugged the Remo Head as it was not properly tightened. Then I adjusted the rod inside the tone ring to get the strings about 1/8" off the fret closest to the head. I then proceeded to tune it, and adjusted the bridge to get the bridge in the proper place for intonation. I am not an expert on playing the Banjo, but have loved Banjo music for MANY years. This Mitchell MBJ200 is exactly what I was looking & listening for. Don't pass over it just because you don't know the Mitchell name I love it!

Comments about Mitchell MBJ200 Deluxe 5-String Banjo:

I first got the Epiphone banjo but I was soon kicking myself for not spending the extra money and getting a little better instrument. The guitar center in Mobile, Al totally took care of me on the exchange and I stepped up and got the Mitchell. I was debating between the Mitchell and the fender FB54. The fender had some string buzz and the Mitchell felt more solid and bright. I've tried multiple turnings and the turners hold up great. I've been plucking away at it for more than a month and I am extremely pleased.

Not So Hot

By George Carrington

from Wilmington Ohio

Comments about Mitchell MBJ200 Deluxe 5-String Banjo:

I've been playing the guitar for 36+ years, so I know quality. I got this banjo for Christmas and loved the look of the wood tone ring and inlay. When I started playing it, I noticed that the 3rd string buzzed when played open, and then would buzz again on the 12th fret. So then I changed the strings and after that the 5th string started buzzing excessively when played open. Very distracting. I also had to tighten the tunning machines in order for it to stay in tune, otherwise it went out of tune right away due to loose machine heads. I ended up taking it back to my local Guitar Center and exchanged it for another brand banjo. The Guitar Center Staff did a great job on my my exchange.
