Michael Kelly Hybrid Special Spalted Maple Top Electric Guitar (513851)

The first time a split personality is a good thing.

The Michael Kelly Hybrid Special can deliver screaming electric and sweet acoustic tones from one single guitar. The Hybrid Special is the perfect stage and studio instrument. Instantly switch it from full acoustic tone to ripping electric guitar! Want more? The Hybrid Special can also BLEND both tones together for almost infinite tonal combinations — creating endless variations of a two-axe wall of sound attack!

Dual Amp Capability
If you are performing live with a Michael Kelly Hybrid Special or using one in the studio, you will love its dual amp capabilities! When using a Y cable (sold separately), the Hybrid sends a signal from the acoustic pickup to one amp and the electric pickup signal to another. Since nothing can reproduce an acoustic signal like a full-range acoustic amp, this will really enhance your performance! You can also run directly into two channels on a mixing board for live or studio applications that will allow you to tailor the sound and maximize each tone. Don't have two amps or a mixing board? Don't worry. With a standard guitar cable on the Hybrid Special Guitar, you get a single signal that you can plug into any amp. The amazing Hybrid Special gives you a vast array of tonal possibilities, with 2 Rockfield SWC coil-tapped humbuckers and very versatile controls.

  • A winner choice ..a lot of guitar and versatility

As reviewed by Joseph Pereira on 3/31/2008

This guitar amazed me from the first time I hold it !. Excellent craftsmanship, details make look Hybrid Special like a more expensive axes. The acoustic timbre remembrance a bit of a T5 bringing a rich tone. Pickups sound great, full of harmonics, I like play jazz in the neck position where the Hybrid is able to give a nice and resonant wood tone and if you turn tone pot to 80% will get a jazz archtop Joe Pass tone. Neck pickup is hot and live, great for blues and traditional/modern rock..I mix piezo and electric...wow!! sweet and lovely. No neck buzzed at all, intonation is very very good, I use mine with Ernie Balls 0.10 and I can indeed... this beauty sing plenty of live!

  • A guitar designed like it should be!

As reviewed by Cruzr on 11/3/2008

Quite the contrary, kids usually don't like the gift they would rather play with the box it came in. Thanks Michael Kelly for taking the time to provide performing musicians with the versatility of "on the fly" ability to blow minds with th hybrid options. Never had a problem w/ buzzing or tuning maybe because I use .11 acoustic strings and not electric. Using .10 electric strings w/ jumbo frets and overpressing them makes it sounds out of tune, acoustic strings give the piezo full effect and this baby is simply for the money, the best deal out there. Proud Michael Kelly owner of a Hybrid, Velvet and a Patriot and the Martins, Taylors and Les Paul just sit there crying!

  • I Like it!

As reviewed by TheDoctor on 5/26/2008

I've only had this guitar for a week, and it's already my favorite. I need an instrument that works and is affordable. The Micheal Kelley Hybrid works great for me. Between the different pickup choices and the many switch possibilities, this is one flexible guitar. Run this guitar through two amps at the same time- tone palette city! I would rate the fit and finish as good for a mid-priced guitar and playability as very good out of the box. I have yet to buy a guitar that did not benefit from professional setup, so that is my next step.
