Comments about Meinl Subwoofer Jumbo Bass Cajon:

I've been looking at Cajon's for about three years. Just haven't been very impressed with the sound. Until I played this big bass Cajon by Meinl. Amazing sound. I accompany live acoustic musicians at live venues and wanted something I wouldn't have to mic. With the big bass ports aimed forward, there is no need for amplification. Well made. Large size. Great sound. Very happy.

Comments about Meinl Subwoofer Jumbo Bass Cajon:

I've been a fan of Cajons for a while now due to their portability and versatility for groups on the move. This one has the deepest tone and best projection of any I've used so far. In our church sanctuary with roughly 450 seats, it needs no amplification to be heard adequately. It also works well for balancing smaller vocal groups because the deep tone tends to compete less with vocal frequencies. For convenience of set-up in larger venues, it would be nice if it had an internal pick-up, but this is a small gripe considering that it does what it was designed to do very well. (So good I hesitate to give it only 4 stars.)

Comments about Meinl Subwoofer Jumbo Bass Cajon:

I upgraded from a Meinl Makah Burl String Cajon. Sadly the guitar strings somehow got disconnected from the tension screws and could no longer tighten them. This one however had me at the low frequencies it produces when the bass section is hit, so I picked it up hoping that I wouldn't have to mic it when playing for worship services.

Overall I am very happy with this cajon because it can be distinguished from guitars, keys, vocals, and even bass without having to mic it. The low frequencies that gave this cajon its name can be heard in small rooms and studio recordings. However I recommended it for it to be miced when playing in front of big crowds for those frequencies to be heard. Even if a mic is not handy, it will definitely be heard. The snare sound doesn't really stand out to me as extravagant, but it's good enough to do the job. If you are going to play on the sides of the cajon, I would recommend to hit on the back instead of the sides because you get more resonance than on the sides since they are made out of fiberglass.

The only cons of this cajon are its weight, and the uncomfortable top. It's really not very heavy, and it comes with a handle on the back where resonators for common cajons usually are. However I do understand that it can be heavy for some. If you have a bony butt like I do, you would want to get a pillow or buy some sort of pad that you can sit on for a while.

Despite the cons, this cajon is great for any gig small or large, loud or soft. It has become one of my all time favorites very quickly.
