Overview

The Meinl Soundcaster Fusion China Cymbal offers a combination of trashiness and brilliance. The close lathing at the edge provides an enhanced washy sound. It combines two different finishes in one cymbal. The lathed surface section has a thinner edge due to its close lathing compared to the unlathed, brilliant finish area at the middle of the cymbal. These different thicknesses produce a range of warm and shimmering sounds with an enhanced wash.

Unique and Expressive

Comments about Meinl Soundcaster Fusion China Cymbal:

After a long and arduous search for a china cymbal, I finally settled on the 18" version of the Soundcaster Fusion a couple of months ago. A lot of chinas are really abrasive and "in your face," but this one is not if you don't want it to be. It has a softer feel and attack than most cymbals of its type unless you play it on the peak, so it feels great to hit (I mount it inverted, with the bell and edge down). The sound is really interesting, sort of a dark roar but with bright overtones. The 18" has just enough of that china "kang" in the background to scratch the itch, a quality that seems to get lost in the 20" model and is more overbearing in the 16". Its sustain is of course shorter than that of a crash cymbal, but it is longer and more washy than most other chinas; that works for me since I play a lot of worship-style music in churches and other venues. It is very expressive at all volumes. I find it blends well with the Sabian Aero Crash. Again, it is a very cool sound with a very cool look. Well suited for general use as long as you don't need crazy volume and attack. Make sure it works well with your other cymbal choices and you will not be disappointed!
