Comments about Meinl Professional Bodhran Frame Drum Bag:
WARNING to purchasers: Guitar Center has a glitch in its online catalog. If you are trying to purchase an 18" case, you may well receive a 14" case instead, just as I did. The catalog page for the 14" case is incorrectly marked as 18" diameter. I ordered my 18" case six weeks in advance of my St. Patrick's Day show. However, because of this catalog error, GC sent me the 14" case. When I re-ordered, emphasizing that I need 18" diameter, I again received a 14" case. The third order failed as well. As a result, I had to carry my bodhran to the St. Patrick's day gig in a gunny sack, just like Johnny B. Goode. My entrance was not very professional. My expensive drum was not protected. I finally obtained the correct case a few days after the show. This problem could have been avoided if Guitar Center had put the manufacturer's model number on each catalog page, for a cross-check. As a matter of policy, GC excludes the manufacturer's model number from the catalog pages. I am hereby calling upon all musicians to urge Guitar Center managers to add manufacturer's model number to each catalog item so that a Guitar Center customer has a way of checking specifications directly with the manufacturer. Now, this is supposed to be a review of the case itself, so here goes: The case properly accomodates an 18" drum with a 4" shell. It is generously padded. It has a zipper pouch more than big enough to hold tipper (drumstick) and tuning tools. It has a padded handle and a shoulder strap. It is probably the best case sold in this country. There is nothing "Irish" - looking about it, but its function is to store and transport the drum safely. It does that. Some limitations: My first wish is for a case with an inner "ziplock" drum bag made of plastic, to help control changes in humidity. The bodhran is particularly sensitive to changes in humidity because of its rawhide skin. If the case-maker would provide an airtight bag, I would be very grateful. My second wish is for four rubber feet on the bag opposite the carrying handle. When you set down the drum case that you have been carrying by its handle, the feet will reduce the risk of the drum rolling across the floor and out the door. My Jamaican steel drum case has four rubber feet. Why can't my Bodhran case have four rubber feet?
