This cymbal, designed by Meinl in cooperation with Thomas Lang, offers drummers a cutting, biting accent to their sound. With a fast, sharp and sinister edge, these Meinl Filter chinas explode and then move out of the way for whatever lick might come next. They are quieter than most china cymbals, and have a short sustain due to the waved edge.

Meinl's Generation X Series offers a full range of special effect sounds previously not available. Years of input have led to the FX9 alloy and the unique shapes and configurations. Fast, explosive attack with quick decay make Gen X cymbals fit where other cymbals won't. Add a crazy new tone color to your setup today.

I Have an 8" and love it. Really fast sharp sound. I use Pearl 2,000 series hardware and i can flip my plastic cup washers to stressed or relaxed. I notice when you have it stressed the cymbal make's an odd rattling sound but when unstressed make's a much more perfect sound just like that of the sound clip on Meinl's Website. I plan on getting more in other sizes. great effect cymbals.

I received this cymbal when I bought a cymbal pack. I figured that it would sound like garbage seeing as how it was a "free giveaway," but I was pleasantly surprised. This cymbal had a really trashy, quick sound that it was awesome for accents. I played the cymbacl for about 5 months and through only 2 gigs and noticed a crack forming. I took the cymbal off and inspected it and found that there are at least 4 more hairline cracks forming...and all at the little crimped places at the end of the cymbal. I thought that these spots might turn weak....and I was COMPLETELY right. Very disappointed...not so much in the performance, but because I REALLY liked this cymbals sound.

Great as a stack

Comments about Meinl Generation X Filter China Cymbal:

I bought this cymbal (12") to use as a stack with an old 10" A Custom splash cymbal I had lying around. The combination if the two are great. A perfect trashy/washy sound that really cuts through and decays almost immediately. They cymbal on its own is not for my taste, however.

Comments about Meinl Generation X Filter China Cymbal:

I actually received one of these as a bonus with a Meinl set I ordered. It is the 14". I honestly wasn't expecting much, but this thing is awesome! I've actually had mine for a few years now, but it's still in good shape. It would not be good as your main china, but it definitely has a super nice sound to add to your overall textures. I move mine around a bit, but I've got it on the left now, with a 20" extra dry china on the right. It's something special!

      Awesome cymbal

Comments about Meinl Generation X Filter China Cymbal:

This is a great accent cymbal I got the 8 inch and paired it with an 8 inch china splash. I might go to the 10 inch for a little more volume but this cymbal is exactly what I wanted for accenting in fills.

Comments about Meinl Generation X Filter China Cymbal:

I got the 12 inch version and it sounds great. It provides an excellent swish. Although if you hit it hard enough, the cymbal will bend. Normally a cymbal bending would be a bad thing but this cymbal is easily reset back to its normal shape. Ive learned how to control its bending during a song in order to expand my drumming. It can bend in 2 ways and it gets more and more trashy each time. you can bend one side or the entire cymbal. It takes a special kind of person to play this cymbal. you have to keep and open mind if you want this cymbal on your kit. You can do a lot of different things with it. it is the most versatile cymbal i own. It is also am amazing stacker cymbal. I stack it with my splashes a lot and it gives a sound equivelant to Mike Portnoys max staxx. a lot cheaper too.

Not what I was looking for

      By Kevin Marcolini

      from Illinois

Comments about Meinl Generation X Filter China Cymbal:

Overall I am very disappointed in this cymbal. I should have just spent the extra money and went with a 10" hand hammered china kang.
The bell of the cymbal is way too small. I bought it to stack on top of a splash but due to the size of the small bell, the cymbals do not even touch eachother.
I also do not like the thickness of the cymbal. It is much thicker than I expected.
There are other brands that make better quality cymbals at mch better prices.

      Sounds great!

Comments about Meinl Generation X Filter China Cymbal:

I'm not sure why people are saying this cymbal has a hard time cutting though, my only guess is they must be super soft hitters.
I just used this thing at an outdoor show and it had no problem cutting though. I play in a band with 2 drummers and this cymbal was able to cut through the other kit and the guitars with no problem. It has a short attack but is super bright and trashy. This cymbal sounds great. This is my first Meinl cymbal and I'm very impressed.

I got the 14" china, and I love it. I play deathcore, metalcore, metal, etc. and this china is amazing, and the great thing about it, its affordable. I'd definitely recommend it.

Comments about Meinl Generation X Filter China Cymbal:

about 1 year ago when i first got this china i loved everything about it, it sounded absolutely wonderful, but within 3-4 months i found atleast 4 cracks, 2 of the cracks were about 1 inch, the ohthers were about half an inch. BUT, i then cut it down shorter and it sounded great ever since.

      A different sound

      By ibernalq

      from Lima, Peru

Comments about Meinl Generation X Filter China Cymbal:

I got an 8" and there are many things to say: 1) This china sounds very different to a normal one. 2) Its not so loud (what its not bad, depends on what are you looking for) 3) Many people say this breaks easily.. I suppose its so because many players try to get loud sounds from it, and play it tooo hard. 4) Its fast, because its wave edge 5) It has a "smooth trash sound", that I like... 6) Looks nice... for me I recommend it, not only the 8" one... I also played the 14 inch. and sounds good too.. many famous drummers play it..

      Great cymbal

      By Kurtis

      from Helena, Al.

Comments about Meinl Generation X Filter China Cymbal:

I bought the 14 inch cymbal about 2 years ago. It took a BEATING. I use china cymbals like a second ride or crash. After playing multiple shows, the cymbal finally cracked where the filter holes are.
