perfect for studio, slightly too soft for un-mic'd live

from Springfield, NJ

This cymbal rules pretty hard. First, it looks amazing - people always tell me how cool looking it is. I play this cymbal in a fusion band and it works great because it truly fits any style of music - sounds dark when you want it to, and bright enough to work in all rock/pop situations. Stick definition is very pronounced because this cymbal has VERY MINIMAL WASH (especially when playing it at an angle rather than totally flat - it is actually heavier on the "AA" side than the "Byzance" side, which I think is intentional to make the logos sit right side up). You can sort of crash it, but it is really a ride through and through. Compared to my other rides (1970s Medium Avedis, 1980s Medium Avedis, and 2011 Paiste Formula 602), this ride has about half as much wash as any of those and, therefore, records about twice as well as any of those because of it's sticking clarity. Because of its warmth, it doesn't project as well as most fully-lathed rides of equal size, but if you have it mic'd the audience should be able to hear it just fine. The only downside to this ride in my opinion is that the bell is not cutting at all - it's too warm to really stick out the way I like a ride bell to do. Overall, definitely worth the price if you are looking for a warm tone with great stick definition. If you are the type of drummer who likes a lot of wobble to their ride, you should probably consider a different cymbal. As a final note, I play with 8D/Jazz sticks and am not worried at all about cracking/breaking this ride. However, if you play really hard & with monster sticks, I could see how you could crack it at the edge or around the bell.

100% worth the money.

This ride is the definition of a musical ride. Whether your bouncing, swinging, smacking the bell, or just crashing the hell out of it. This ride is wonderful. I'm a heavy hitter with heavy sticks so i tend to break it every once in a while. but its 100% worth it. this ride is amazing.
