The Transition Ride by Meinl has a natural, slightly polished top for clear articulation and a present but not overpowering bell. The bottom is lathed up to the bell, which enables a quick, shimmery crash with a rapid decay. This enables a "transition" back to a dry, articulate ride. The bottom also offers a brilliant finish which allows the ride to move through various dynamic levels with control over the degree of clarity and level of wash.

WHY AREN'T YOU BUYING THIS CYMBAL RIGHT NOW

By The Elemantra Drum

About Me Experienced

Pros

  • Explosive Attack
  • Responsive Feel

Cons

    Best Uses

    • It's versatile enough to be used almost anywhere

Comments about Meinl Byzance Mike Johnston Signature Transition Ride:

Okay, so I've been dreaming of getting this cymbal for a good 6-8 months now and I've finally gotten it and after 2 weeks of playing it, I can say with confidence that it's the best cymbal I've ever hit in my 8 years of cymbal hitting. Although I will say to be sure you want this type of cymbal sound as it is an acquired taste in a sense. If you want the basic, "ideal" ride sound, don't buy this cymbal. If you want a unique, versatile, intense sounding ride, buy this cymbal. A common complaint with rides is that they can be "too pingy." If you're one of those complainers this is what you want because there's almost no ping whatsoever it's crazy. It does exactly what it says it does. It transitions so perfectly between whatever you want out of it. I can use it as a crash and wail on it for an entire section of a song and it decays back into a ride if you want it to. I've heard some drummers complain that they don't like the bell but I personally love the bell sound. It's hard to hit it perfectly sometimes but when you do it cuts so well and has that perfect dark sound. And lastly, if you haven't watched the full video of Mike Johnston explaining everything I just described but more professionally and eloquently, do it. The stock one from Meinl attached to this page doesn't do the cymbal enough justice.

    Love the transition ride

Comments about Meinl Byzance Mike Johnston Signature Transition Ride:

I love this ride. It was designed perfectly to fit its name. The cymbal gives an excellent dry (but not as dry as the extra dry series from Meinl) and articulate ride while the crash is an explosive, powerful sound that gets out of the way very quickly. Can be used in almost any musical application

        Versatile & Well Blending Ride

        By Little Drummer Boy

        About Me Professional Musician

Comments about Meinl Byzance Mike Johnston Signature Transition Ride:

This ride has been exactly what I have been looking for! It reacts as described when transitioning from crashing or heavy playing to a reasonably quick mild to medium wash decay back to clear stick articulation. This is the first time that I have purchased a cymbal online and not in person. Since there is no Meinl dealer within a couple hours from my home town, I went for it and happy that I did!
I normally use heavier rides such as a "Ping" ride, and these rides can get loud really quick and take some time to decay. The transition ride is much different in this respect and took just a bit to get used to, but not long at all.
This is my first Meinl cymbal and I am pleased thus far with the musicality and flexibility of this ride cymbal.
I am using it for recording, live performances and band rehearsals with no problems whatsoever.

          Best Uses

Comments about Meinl Byzance Mike Johnston Signature Transition Ride:

This ride cymbal is, in my opinion, the best ride I've ever played. Its sound is incredible. As soon as you start playing it as a ride, you get this clear stick definition and articulation without it being too pingy. Underneath that, you hear this gorgeous wash that fills the sound of the kit with just pure bliss. Then you go to crash it and you get this big, dark, shimmery, crash with hints of trashy characters; but the overall crash sound doesn't overpower the kit or sound like a gong as how some rides do. The bell sounds fantastic. When you hit the bell, it activates the whole cymbal, giving you that beautiful wash along with the crisp tone of the bell which actually sounds like a part of the cymbal. This ride feels wonderful to play as well. This cymbal just kind of moves with you as you're playing. Every placement of your stick affects the sound in a different good way, giving it so much character. And on top of all this, this ride looks stunning! It's always nice to have an instrument that makes you want to play it just by looking at it. And playing this cymbal just inspires me in many ways. Now I just wish I was endorsed by Meinl haha.
