Meinl's Byzance Traditional finish cymbals are handmade in Turkey using the traditional B20 bronze alloy. The profile of the cymbal is hand-hammered into shape. They are also lathed by hand. All this handwork goes into making a true musical instrument. These cymbals have a nice dark character with an explosive attack and a long decay. Good for Latin, jazz, rock, pop and country . . . a good all around cymbal.

Comments about Meinl Byzance Medium Ride Traditional Cymbal:

Like many of you experienced players I have collected some good cymbals over the years from most of the big names. I compared my Meinl Byzance cymbal to my Paiste 22 Master series Rose ride, my old Paiste 602 ride and my wonderful Sabian medium 20 ride. So here are some observations:

      - The Byzance 21 medium ride is lower pitched but with brighter harmonics. This equates to a lot of clear stick articulation with a lower pitched sound.

      - The tone is more complex than my other rides and can be a bit more cutting which could be a too aggressive in a small venue. To me, the lows and high frequencies are strong; I believe the mid range of the wash is a bit scooped out. The Paiste Master 22 Rose has a higher pitched ping with a much smoother balanced controlled wash and fast response when crashed.

      - To put it another way, the Byzance seems to have a subtle complex trashiness that is very appealing when needed, the Paiste and Sabian are more musically balanced and appealing for certain types of work.

To summarize this is a monster of a cymbal (in a good way), especially in live settings where you can really dig in. It clearly has the complex sound of an old school hand made turkish cymbal but with more volume and cut. It also has more cut and shimmer than my Sabian, Paiste and Zildjians but that's not a bad thing for articulation and projection in medium to larger venues.

Comments about Meinl Byzance Medium Ride Traditional Cymbal:

I have had all the name brand cymbals and not just a few...whole sets and sets of several models. Typically the most expensive ones. I have this ride in a 22" and it sounds as good or better than cymbals costing a lot more. Its a no brainer. I've been disappointed with more expensive cymbals but not with Byzance.

I have a full set of Meinl, and literally every cymbal blows my mind. Beautiful craftsmanship, incredible sound, and they look amazing too. Wonderful cymbals! I use these at my church, and they fit in wonderfully. I'd recommend this to anyone who can afford them!

              Byzance beauty

Comments about Meinl Byzance Medium Ride Traditional Cymbal:

I was looking for a 22" ride to go with my Meinl MCS cymbals and this fit perfectly. Having Meinl cymbals I wanted one to match their timbre. This is not only a great sounding ride but its also a great crash cymbal too. Sounds great with sticks or brushes depending what my mood is. I wish I had the money to replace my other cymbals all with Byzance cymbals, but I still have a great set of cymbals an this ride makes them all shine.

Comments about Meinl Byzance Medium Ride Traditional Cymbal:

I bought this cymbal a few weeks ago to play it in a talent show. Never got to do that but wow am I still glad i bought it. My dad has a Zildjian A Custom 20" Ride. I bought the 21" Meinl and wow. It blows my dads Zildjian out of the water. I've always been torn between Meinl and Zildjian but this cymbal has helped me make up my mind. This cymbal has great stick definition which the Zildjian lacks. The bell on the ride sounds amazing and when you crash on this ride if you play harder rock, it sounds absolutly amazing. I don't think you can get a better cymbal to crash on. Or a better overall ride. This cymbal is definitly worth the money and i would recomend it to any drummer that has been playing a long time and continues playing.

Comments about Meinl Byzance Medium Ride Traditional Cymbal:

Meinl cymbals are high quality cymbals that wont break the bank, this cymbal is the same way. It has a great warm sound. The ping is very clear but the bell is kinda weak. But this cymbal is great for someone looking for a good cymbal without drying out their bank account
