Crash cymbals with traditional, warm sound in an extremely wide dynamic spectrum. Energetic, exploding attack and a louder response.

Meinl's Byzance Traditional finish cymbals are handmade in Turkey using the traditional B20 bronze alloy. The profile of the cymbal is hand-hammered into shape. They are also lathed by hand. All this handwork goes into making a true musical instrument. These crash cymbals have a nice dark character with an explosive attack and a long decay. Good for Latin, jazz, rock, pop and country . . . a good all around cymbal.

  • B20 bronze alloy

      Great crashes.

Comments about Meinl Byzance Medium Crash Traditional Cymbal:

I own the 20" of this cymbal and have played the 18" and 21".
The 20" has a great, full crash. You can really feel it give in as you hit it. It sounds great hit hard as well as soft and swells great with mallets or with a roll on top. It also has a nice, clear sounding bell.
I liked the 20" so much I bought a 21". They really sounded great together. The thing that surprised me was that it was quieter than the 20". Maybe this is normal, but it caught me off guard. It has a beautiful crash that is trashier than the 20". It also sounds great with mallets and does particularly well played softly. I've used it as a ride on softer sets. It did, however, crack within a month. I returned it and bought a 20" Meinl Vintage Crash. (see review).
The 18" was a friends and he let me borrow it for a gig. Sounded nice. Opened right up. I prefer the fuller crash of the 20 and 21" however.
Overall, a great line of cymbals.

Comments about Meinl Byzance Medium Crash Traditional Cymbal:

These are the hands down best crashes I have ever owned or played. They are good for all styles of music and sound wonderful doing all of it. Alas all of these crashes that I have owned have broke(Quite quickly I may add). The warranty is for two years and if you are a heavy hitter you will need it.

Comments about Meinl Byzance Medium Crash Traditional Cymbal:

After about 4 months of research and listening to probably every crash cymbal from every company I could possibly find, I had been stuck on this one and I absolutely love it. I bought this to replace the Sabian 18" AA crash/ride that I have because the sound just wasn't my taste, if that makes sense, and this was definitely the right choice for me. This crash has the loudest and most spread out attack I've ever heard with washy, yet warm and crisp overtones which is what I love hearing from a crash, especially since I mainly play rock, punk, and a little metal now and then. It can also be played as a ride (given that it's 22") if you like a short "ping" sound, but with washy and crisp over tones which is also what I like to hear in a ride cymbal, but I wouldn't use it as a main ride, just if needed for a gig or some other circumstance. The only thing I would maybe complain about is the price, but in the end, totally worth it, especially when purchased on sale.

Comments about Meinl Byzance Medium Crash Traditional Cymbal:

WOW!Today I tried this crash at my friends house, and it's unbelievable, we compared this crash with a Sabian HHX 18" Crash, and no questions asked, the AA Meinl wins.

      Best Cymbals on the market!!

      By Cody

      from Anaheim California

Comments about Meinl Byzance Medium Crash Traditional Cymbal:

Just upgraded my Paiste Pst 5 cymbals with all new Meinl's. I was a little scepticle at first to get Meinl mainly because I couldn't play it and hear it before I bought it. But with Guitar Centers killer return policy it was easy to return if I didn't like the sound. But I must say I am glad I took the risk because this cymbal, and all the Meinl's I've purchased, sound amazing!! Way better than any Paiste, Zildjian or Sabian I've checked out at GS. The only reason the others are out selling Meinl is because you can get your hands on them very easily and play them before you buy. If your considering Meinl, take my advice and take the risk. You will NOT be dissapointed.

      Goin Big with Meinl 20

      By Anonymous

      from Undisclosed

Comments about Meinl Byzance Medium Crash Traditional Cymbal:

I was excited to finally get this cymbal in the mail. I watched a bunch of videos and read reviews but my first time playing the 20" Byzance crash was when it came in the mail! At first thought I was a little concerned because it was definitely a darker china esque type sound. However after playing a bit on it and hitting it along with my other crash (18" zildjian a custom brilliant) I was in love. This cymbal cuts through the mix and has a nice long sustain. I can really hit this cymbal and not worry too much. But just to be on the safe side I picked up the warranty ;-) way to go Meinl!

      Explosive! Will Blow Your Mind!

      By Jerry L.

      from Scranton, PA

Comments about Meinl Byzance Medium Crash Traditional Cymbal:

Let's just say that I also play a 20inch Zildjian A custom medium Crash and when I set this cymbal up next to it, it blew it away! It has just the right sustain and creates beautiful overtones that decay in a timely manner. I have never heard something as great as this cymbal. It doesn't have that CLICHE cymbal sound like the A customs. It's very Rich sounding. You can use it for everything, you can even swing on it. I'm sold to meinl .Time to sell my zildjians.
