Overview

The Meinl Bongo Cajon is uniquely different from a traditional cajon. It delivers the sound one expects from a traditional cajon, but the playing surface has high- and low-pitched areas so it can play bongo patterns as well. The bongo cajon's compact size and light weight make it a perfect companion on the road.

I thought it was appropriate to to write a review to clear up some things for people who would consider buying this product, since the actual page is somewhat lacking in information. So first of all the picture is not at all accurate, whereas the title is. This is an Ebony Bongo Cajon. that means it is white walled with a black top. Obviously not what the picture looks like. Also the page lacks a description. The only thing to point out is that unlike the other ones i have seen here the bottom is not curved upward, it is completely flat. Don't think that makes any difference but who knows it may be an issue to other people. Other than that it is a very simplistic instrument that looks like my sock drawer thus the name Noise Box.

So beautifully made, practically a piece of art. However, very small sweet spot on playing surface plus not nearly enough volume. The bottom is not open like most bongo cajons. Rather, there are two holes, each about two inches wide (maybe that's why they are not loud enough?) Gig bag was very nice. Hey, if I could afford it, I'd keep this as a wood sculpture that happens to also to be a musical instrument.

I am new to the bongo cajon but couldn't be more pleased with this product! I have been watching videos to learn to play and I am truly amazed at the sounds this box can make!! Not only does it sounds great it is also quite beautiful. It is well made, nice finish, and it super easy to carry with wherever that may be. I just took it on a 10 hour road trip to the mountains and had a great time jammin on the highway:)

          Comments about Meinl Bongo Cajon:

Love the bongo cajon much better than standard bongos - sound better and less hassle. Plus, it is fun to play. It's great for beach music, 50s-60s stuff, Latin funkadelic, etc. I'm working on integrating it into my set.
