To the percussion community, there's no name more familiar than Meinl. Offering an incredibly diverse range of instruments crafted by musicians, for musicians, Meinl is renowned all over the world for making amazing percussion of nearly every kind. In fact, about the only things you won't find here are bass, tom and snare drums; instead, Meinl focuses squarely on cymbals and exotic percussion, creating a palette of sounds unlike any other. Cymbals are what Meinl is best known for, and they've been making them since the company began in Germany in the 1950s. Today, their cymbals come in lots of different types, setting the standard for variety among cymbal makers. You can, for example, transport the look and feel of your drums back in time with the crisp and articulate Meinl Byzance Vintage Sand series. Or, look ahead with the futuristic Meinl Generation X cymbals that are perfect for fast, precise stick work. When the sticks are away, Meinl has even more instruments for you to play. Their selection of hand percussion is second to none, with classics like tambourines, shakers, castanets and all sorts of bells as well as more unusual instruments such as the caxixi, berimbau, shekere and cajita. They've even created their own original percussion instrument called the Galaxy, played with one hand and a beater, which is capable of making an unbelievable range of sounds. Meinl is also a great choice for unconventional and exotic drums, hand-played and otherwise. Their cajon drums are especially popular: the Headliner, for instance, has a characteristic sizzle effect and comes in a few different great-looking finishes. Like all cajons, it can deliver a whole range of different sounds, making it an especially dynamic drum. Other drums that Meinl builds include bongos, djembes, tamboras and surdos, just to name a few. One thing is for sure: when you're looking for some interesting percussion, Meinl is a top choice. Their cymbals are world-class and their exotic instruments are great for ethnic music or adding unique touches to a mainstream style. Meinl handheld percussion is so much fun to play onstage, and it also makes a great conversation starter on the coffee table. One of the only things that Meinl doesn't do is disappoint!
