Overview

The Martin XC1T Ellipse Acoustic-Electric Guitar has a durable, high-pressure laminate body design, which delivers robust guitar tone. The solid Sitka spruce top, and tawny satinwood sides and back contribute to the tone while producing a unique look.

Made of rosewood, maple, and koa, the wooden rosette adds an elegant touch to the top. The low-profile oval-shaped neck with soft cutaway is incredibly easy to play.

A Fishman Ellipse Blend system combines signals from an internally mounted microphone with an undersaddle transducer. Discrete controls (volume, mic/pickup blend, phase) are mounted inside the soundhole for easy access.

Excellent Instrument

By Paul Palmes

from Prescott, WI

Comments about Martin XC1T Ellipse Acoustic-Electric Guitar:

Bought my XC1T a year ago as a travel guitar, but decided instead to keep it close at hand at home for those moments of inspiration. Intonation is awesome. The instrument has a deep, warm sound and holds its tune exceptionally well. The in-box mic and controls allow for fine tuning output and locating the sweet spot for recording. One of my best instrument purchases and highly recommended

12 months of playing daily, 5 STAR Guitar!

By Joeman

from Wisconsin

Comments about Martin XC1T Ellipse Acoustic-Electric Guitar:

I love this darn guitar, and with your amp setup correctly, (or when recording directly) the built in Microphone option on the pickup is awesome! The pickup is good too, and the slider helps to keep a nice combination of both as you turn up the amp when you need to avoid feedback on the microphone in smaller rooms. The unfinished/semi-finished top creates amazing sounds when thumping cords- and also dramitically enhances the volume controls and tone controls you can get out of the guitar with your strumming/picking hand. Either way, it's got a great Martin sound, and mine sounds great unplugged, and plugged into my Marshall as50D, and even better when plugged into the clean channel on my Mesa Studio amp. For any of you that get shoulder pain when playing full size acoustics for prolonged periods, the significantly smaller body on these completely eliminated that issue for me. Anyway, mine has held up wonderfully, and I play mine daily- and I bought it from someone else who had it for approximately 8 months- and mine still looks new and plays new.

Don't let the HPL discourage you

By Marc

from Norwalk, CT

Comments about Martin XC1T Ellipse Acoustic-Electric Guitar:

Martin really knows how to build a guitar to achieve tremendous tone no matter what the material. I own a a rosewood OM model that retails for $3,000 and purchased this as my "always out of the case" guitar. What shines: Tone: I think it is the quality of spruce, it's thickness and bracing that make this guitar sound so good. BTW: I happen to use Elixer Phospher bronze 12s Playability: Stratabound neck is very comfortable. Had it set-up for my liking (lower than factory). The stripped ebony board is very nice. Unplugged sound is the true measure for any acoustic. Electronics can always be customized. The electronics happen to be good however not why I like this guitar.

Good stuff

By Amish Dan

Comments about Martin XC1T Ellipse Acoustic-Electric Guitar:

I sure cant complain! It sounds like a Martin for much less and it looks cool it's hard to get over the plastic back and sides but I did. I would love to spend 3 grand on a guitar someday bu untill then this will keep me satisfied only complaint is that it's not setup real well the action could easily go lower and I'm more confident in my own luthiery skills than most at guitar center. Over all a+!

I absolutely LOVE this guitar!

By Anna

from Antioch, CA

Comments about Martin XC1T Ellipse Acoustic-Electric Guitar:

Have had the guitar since October 2009 and it sounds/looks just as beautiful as when I got it - maybe even better. I already had a Martin DM, so was actually avoiding demo'ing another Martin. I finally tried this one because I liked the smaller size and I was in love (my son even noticed how beautiful it sounded); it was just "right". Back and forth to Guitar Center I went for almost a year (they're so patient!), always trying out other guitars that were even 3x the cost but I always ended up with this one. I typically just play without the amp in my home with plenty of sound, but when I do plug in I use a Roland AC-60. Great size for me and the low action makes barre chords much easier than on my DM. My only tiny complaint is that the unfinished body is susceptable to scratches even from my fingernail. But I know that's part of what gives it such a rich sound!

Ellipse eclipses my small-body guitar reluctance. Wow. Just wow.

By Gisterme

from San Marcos, CA

Comments about Martin XC1T Ellipse Acoustic-Electric Guitar:

This is an absolutely wonderful guitar. The acoustic sound is way beyond what I'd expect from a small body guitar and it really holds its tuning. The neck is very easy to play and got even better with a professional setup. The Fishman pickup system works really well too for plugging in. You just have to play and hear this one to believe it. The laminate construction seems very sturdy and has held up very well to the daily use I've given the instrument for the 8 months I've had it. It still looks like the day I got it and plays even better. The Ellipse has proven to be an awesome studio instrument, much to my delight. This might be the best acoustic_electric guitar bargain around right now.
