*Great tone. Projects well. Extremely Comfortable. Good action. Beautiful.* I've been playing bass for the past few years. Mainly, because the guitar I had previously hurt so bad that I quit... I had pretty much given up on learning how to play guitar because of the pain.. Until, one day I picked up this beauty. I was messing around and found it to be extremely comfortable and not to mention had an amazing tone (never fails with Martin). I just fell in love and knew that if I had this guitar I wouldn't mind practicing on a regular basis. - I purchased it about three weeks ago now and I couldn't be happier. I can't stop playing. I love this guitar so much.
I have played a lot of Martins. Some of them are $2000, and some were the travel guitar, which are $500. This Martin is Incredible! Let's go by category. Features: this Martin comes fully equipped with the Fishman electronics, and they are great! The wood is beautiful. The tone is beautiful. Everything is beautiful. Quality & Reliability: The quality is perfect, I've had it for a year, nothing loose, broken, torn, or chipped. It is also a reliable guitar and it will never break down if you are using it for a live performance. Look & Feel: to see the look, just look at the pictures. Need I say more? It is BEAUTIFUL! It is also very light and it feels very high end. Buy this guitar for it is a keeper forever!
I bought this guitar as an upgrade from an old guitar I had been borrowing from a friend to see if I would enjoy and stick with playing. I originally was looking at cheaper guitars like the yamaha fg series, and, while those are fine guitars, this Martin was worth every penny more. Many people may question the materials used in this guitar and wonder is 'HPL' can be trusted. From my experience with this guitar it is just as good/better than other laminates and cheaper solid wood guitar I tried. The guitar feels very sturdy in my hand and has the feel of real wood all around, it doesn't look/feel plasticy like other laminate back guitars. When I purchased this guitar I was torn between this and the seagull s6, which is also solid top (cedar) with laminated back/sides (cherry). Both are amazing guitars, especially at their prices. I chose the Martin because of the deeper booming bass it had. The seagull still had plenty of bass but I preferred the fullness of the Martin more. People also talk about a Martin or Taylor tone and how they have a similar sound throughout all their products. I decided to test this by trying several Martin guitars that could be considered similar upgraded models to this one. They all had a similar tone and that 'Martin tone'. It was incredible to hear and feel a similar sound and playability from this $500 guitar to a $2500 Martin. Obviously the higher end models were prettier and a little clearer with solid woods but there absolutely is a similar tone. If you are looking for a deep, full, powerful tone that doesn't drown out higher tones definitely give this guitar a try!
I would not normally write a review of a musical instrument because things like cost and taste and how it sounds to the individual makes a lot of difference to it's desirability but this guitar was a genuine surprise when I first played it. I had to buy a acoustic guitar for a guitar class I was taking and I went to Guitar Center and went in the room where they had the acoustic guitars and started playing the guitars and was there for a while and was not impressed until I played the Martin X! DE. It was like the difference in day and night from the other guitars. I don't care if you get another brand for much more money or a very expensive Martin guitar, this guitar is a sleeper in the industry because of the sound of this guitar. You are not getting any frills in design or some expensive wood that is supposed to give the guitar a special sound. You are getting a guitar that sounds fantastic for a kid or an adult that they can play forever and not feel the instrument isn't keeping up with their skill level. You don't have to spend a fortune for a good guitar. You can get a great sounding quality guitar for a cheap price with this Martin X1 DE.
I am a long time guitar picker. This guitar has a voice that is Deep, Resonant and Clear. The action on this guitar is wonderful. I have 62 year old "chubby to medium" semi arthritic fingers. This guitar is easy to frett, finger-picking and barr chords. Jam with your friends and eyebrows raise. Harmonic notes to Rock and Roll Riffs.Spanish love songs, or blues, folk or funky "ole soul", this is the boy you bring to the show. When someone writes a masterpiece, no one knows what the author wore. when you play a masterpiece, the sound not the cost, is important. The electronics will provide all and more than one expects. This is a Martin, make no mistake. Strum it, betcha can't just strum it: once. I play my D 35 at home. I take my,Phantom of the Gig, proudly anywhere, and people do talk!!!!
In researching the X series I saw some comments from the Martin "purists" about the materials. The stability of the materials combined with excellent tone and playability were all reasons I bought this guitar. Several years ago I bought the 12-string version X-series. I have owned a few 12-strings and they are prone to problems. I have had no problems with the 12-string - stable with excellent action - and generally solid as a rock. So when I decided to get something to travel with and take on vacation I knew where to start. I played a bunch of models - some several hundred dollars more - and walked out with the Martin. A month later still very happy with my choice. I didn't really care about the electronics but I find myself plugging in more than I expected. Give this guitar serious consideration. If you can afford a couple thousand then open the door to the higher price room - but for the money you can't beat this one - and if GC is having a sale - well thats just icing on the cake
The Martin X Series is an amazing value. The guitars may be made from eco-friendly, non-traditional materials, but the Martin engineering coaxes a beautiful sound from these instruments. Rest assured the dreadnought delivers that warm powerful bass typical of the more expensive Martins. I recommend that you choose a model with the solid Sitka spruce top for the best response. The Fishman electronics is the only reason I dropped the instrument from 5 stars to 4. The pickup sounds good and clean, but it doesn't deliver a true representation of the acoustic sound. If that's what you're after, you'll need to mic the instrument or change out the pickup. The Martin X Series is worthy of your attention, especially if price is a major consideration. But regardless of affordability, these instruments may represent how good guitars are made in the future what with the growing scarcity of traditional woods.
I have drempt of owning a Martin, for decades, and now I do. Given I didn't have the budget to drop a lot of money for the instrument, I opted for this one. For the money, I couldn't have chosen better. I amazed at the bottom end this guitar has. It is deep, rich, and full bodied, and yet, crisp. The mids and highs are just as rich, full bodied, and crisp. The action is smooth and fast, allowing the guitar to all but play itself. Do Not let the materials used in its construction to fool you. The Martin Quality is there in spades. Regarding the electrics... this instrument sounds just as good, if not better, plugged into your amp. I play through a full stack, and was concerned about the harmonic distortion, but my concerns were immediately laid to rest, with the first strum of a chord. Unplugged, the guitar booms it's glorious voices when needed but is just as crystaline clear when played softly. Do I recommend this instrument? With a loudly resounding YES, I recommend this guitar to anyone, whether novice to performing professional, and all degrees of proficiency in between. I will say, but it's not a criticism, the finish is interesting, given it's not a high gloss, but a satin-like finish. As with any fine instrument one needs to take care of it.
I went in to guitar center after putting together a list of acoustic/electric guitars I researched online. After about an hour of playing the different ones I looked at I decided to buy this Martin. The sound and tone was great. It's action was good and impressed me. I bought the guitar with a hard shell case. After getting it home and playing it for a couple hours, I really was happy with the purchase. This guitar will stay in the family for a long time. I would highly recommend this guitar over the Yamaha models at the same price range. I came close to getting a fender that was 100.00 dollars less but decided in the long run the Martin would be the best way to go. This is a fantastic guitar for anyone starting out or experienced. Go check it out .
Plays beautifully, rich sound, great action and backed by the premier name in Acoustics...Martin of Nazareth, PA. Mine feels like it was custom shop, just for me. Go play one: solid spruce top, Fishman electronics...you cannot go wrong...just buy it, I am sure you will be as pleased as I am with mine. P.S. Buy a hardshell case for it.
