I owned the Baby Taylor before this and ended up selling it to my uncle who wanted my younger cousins to learn. It just sounded too bright to me and didn't have nearly enough tone in the bass for the style of music I play. Or in general. The Martin LXME is really a unique instrument. I played everything at this size in the store, knowing that I probably was going to buy this or the LX1E. I kept playing both and went back and forth and decided I thought this sounded a little more bassy to me and I liked that. At this point it's a solid 4/5 for me. When you plug it in it sounds even better. I have a Taylor 210ce and it has that level of sound coming out of it. I am beyond impressed and it has been exactly what I'm looking for - a travel guitar that isn't just super bright, but has the range to balance it out. This does it for me. I had it shipped to the house and it came in great shape and pretty quickly. I ordered on a Sat and it came Tues/Thurs, can't remember which.
I bought this guitar about a month ago. I mostly bought it because Ed Sheeran has martins and when he performs live the guitars sound great. I was pretty bias when going to buy it. Ever since i've bought it, ive practiced about 8 hours a week. The guitar is the perfect size and is nearly as loud as a full size guitar. Has a great sound quality too. Great price, and is great for travel. One of the best purchases at Guitar Center!
I have been looking at this model for a while on-line. I was in a local store the other day and they happened to have one on the wall. I pulled it down and played it for a few minutes. Now, I havent actually played the taylor 3/4 size but my daughter has a hohner 3/4 (which is excellent, by the way) and I have also played a 3/4 squier. I cant speak on behalf of the taylor but the Little Martin was FAR more volumnous in regard to sound than the other two. A really great, full sound comes out of it. The others that I have played or play regularly are good, I mean, really good and fun to play but THIS...This thing is amazing. I have been looking for a carry around guitar. I was thinking about just a plain acoustic full sized but I think this is a strong possibility with the sound quality and all the guitar for small coin. Plus, its travel sized. Cant go wrong.
I compared it to Baby Taylor & many other 3/4 bodies. I like the sound alone, but really like it with the AMP. For my needs it perfect, because I can take it on the road and not worry quite as much about temperature changes as I would with non laminates.
I̴m from Brazil and I bought this little Martin last month when I went to the US to perform at a brazilian church in San Diego. In the past I had a baby Taylor and I was missing confort and the easy travelling instrument that my Baby was. So I found this little guy and for my surprise it sounded really big when plugged. One of my best purchases at Guitar Center. GOD bless Martin.
This guitar is just an awesome little instrument. It is durable, compact, versatile and sounds fairly decent. Keep in mind that it is not a full size guitar, so you do sacrifice a little volume and tone. It is surprisingly responsive in the low and high notes, and it has been passable for plugging in during rehearsals. I have not used it for a live performance yet, but I am not opposed to it with my LR Baggs external pre-amp. It is not a full size, high end Martin, so do not expect that tone, but it is my favorite guitar to walk around the house with and practice all day. Maybe it's because the material seems indestructible and my 2 year old can't even scratch it or just because it's so small that I can put it anywhere, but I never let go of this thing. I think my daughter will be able to learn on it when she gets bigger, and I am sure I could do a lot worse for her entry level guitar. Give it a shot if you travel or just for fun. You will enjoy it if you have the right expectations.
I bought this guitar because I wasn?t really happy with the travel guitar I already had, the Yamaha travel guitar. The acoustic sound was horrible. I wasn?t interested in getting a small/child guitar because I thought it would be vulnerable to breaking escpecially when travelling. This guitar is not made of wood, but a lamenite much like formica so it is durable. Now that my worries of crushing the guitar were pushed a side I was wow?d by the big sound that comes from this little guitar. It?s very loud. The sound quality is good too. I was very impressed. I have short fingers so the short scale doesn?t bother me. It feels balanced on a strap and feels good to play. The only thing though is that if you are playing any frets higher than nine it will sound like a toy. One of the best things about this guitar is that it came with a really nice gig bag. The bag has a plush inside with a good amount of padding.
Let me say first of all, that I personally dont own this guitar. A friend of mine lets me use it to perform live. Im not a small guy either, but the sound that is generated from this guitar is ridiculous. So many other people will stick to a Gibby or a Taylor, but Im telling you, if you have the means to afford an extraordinary guitar like this, by all means do it. You will not regret it. And to the creators of these Martin guitars, you are amazing, and we all look forward to more inspiring creations from you guys, much love. Jared
