Overview

The X Series GPCX2AE Macassar Grand Performance Acoustic-Electric Guitar is crafted from a solid Sapele top paired with Macassar patterned high-pressure laminate back and sides, a birch laminate high performance neck and Fishman Sonitone electronics. A great guitar for studio or stage. Case sold separately.

The Martin guitar's laminate birch neck is a multilayered wood creation, bonding layers of birch under extremely high pressure. The material is then carved and finished in a conventional manner. The end result is a very strong neck that provides definition and articulate sustain from note to note.

The neck is fashioned with a Performing Artist neck shape and taper, 25.4 in. scale, 1-3/4 in. nut width, and 16" radius provide comfort and dexterity when performing intricate movements and progressions along the black Richlite fretboard.

This X Series GPCX2AE Macassar Grand Performance Acoustic-Electric Guitar comes compete with the Fishman Sonitone. The Fishman Sonitone features a soundhole-mounted preamp with rotary controls for Volume and Tone. The controls are mounted conveniently under the soundhole. All you have to do is plug in and play. You’ll have a great acoustic guitar sound, right out of the box.

This guitar has the look and sound of a highly collectible Martin guitar, but goes for a price that anyone can afford. Embrace the dream of owning your very own Martin guitar, at a price that is too good to pass up.

Comments about Martin X Series GPCX2AE Macassar Grand Performance Acoustic-Electric Guitar:

What I like:
The guitar was in tune and stayed in tune right out of the box. (When does that ever happen?)
There is no fret buzz and the action is nice and low.
When plugged in, the sound level is pretty consistant from the first to the sixth string.

What I don't like:
The face of the guitar does not resonate. When I strum it, unplugged, it sounds dead.
Every single person who sees the guitar says something like "I didn't know Martin made PLASTIC guitars." Why do they say this? The back and sides look and feel like a plastic toy guitar. this bothers me a lot.
When I finger pick, it is so quiet... the guitar feels dead.
When I strum, there is very little sustain. It dies fast.
When I pick a solo, I can't let a note ring for very long before the level tapers off to nothing.

The only good use I can see for this guitar is if you are looking for a Martin Neck you can play plugged in. It sounds really nice plugged in. The Sonitone pickups are better than I expected. I can just imagine how it would sound on a better Martin!

Don't buy it for acoustic jams.
Don't buy it for looks. The picture displayed here is not true to what you get. It doesn't look like wood at all.

Comments about Martin X Series GPCX2AE Macassar Grand Performance Acoustic-Electric Guitar:

Liked this guitar the first time I saw it. In addition to being a musician, I am an artist so it goes without saying I am visually attuned to the things around me. I saw it in the acoustic room at Guitar Center and was initially taken by it's looks. Then I played it. I was really impressed by the balance and clarity of it. I set it aside for a few minutes. Another customer picked it up and I got to hear it from out in front. I was even more impressed with the sound. I called it "meaty." I imagined how it would sound with new strings on it. Plugged it in to give the Fishman Sonotone pickup a test drive and it didn't disappoint. I made the purchase, changed the strings and am quite pleased with the sound and sustain. Glad I made the jump and got this one.

This guitar is not worth the money you pay for it will fall apart on you from the cheap glue and wood they use on the tops save your money and either get a D-15 or something higher if your dead set on a martin it's sad to say but I have play alot better epiphone than this this guitar doesn't put off alot of sound either

Comments about Martin X Series GPCX2AE Macassar Grand Performance Acoustic-Electric Guitar:

I don't usually write detailed reviews, but I will make an exception for this guitar...so please read the whole review if you are really interested in this guitar. Bought one of these after playing everything in the big guitar store. Aesthetically, the guitar is beautiful. The body is small and easy to hold and play sitting, standing, or reclining in a hammock. Don't let the small size fool you, it still has that deep Martin sound, along with a clear presence in the mid and high ranges, all with a "punch" that is "tighter" than pretty much anything I've ever played. It is somewhat quieter than most, which lends perfectly to someone who likes to play and sing unplugged, but hammer on the strings and this baby will really ring out, with no vibration or distortion, and plugged in, it keeps it's true acoustic tone...the Fishman electronics are great, and true to the guitar's sound. I've read reviews that complain about the plastic look of the sides and back...well it pretty much is plastic, but I think that's a good thing. The back and sides are made of high pressure laminate. Synthetic materials combined with a resin that forms a plastic like structure that is almost bulletproof. This material is rugged, less apt to warp than solid wood, makes for great resonance with the solid mahogany top, and will probably last forever, making this a great guitar for the road. In summary, this guitar looks great, plays great, sounds great...what more could you want?

Comments about Martin X Series GPCX2AE Macassar Grand Performance Acoustic-Electric Guitar:

Absolutely do not buy this guitar. I got it in the summer and had it for maybe 8 months until I had to get my money back. I brought it in once because of a pingy sound and the tech at guitar center said to put sponges in it, so I did - 3 of them - and a guitar humidifier. I kept them in all winter and the guitar only got worse. The pingy sound didn't go away and the back of the guitar began to detach from the sides. When I brought it in again they told me 1) they didn't have the tools to fix it, 2) it would cost hundreds to fix (luckily I had gotten the warranty), 3) this would continue to happen after each time I got it fixed. They also told me that this was a common problem people had with their Martin guitars because they aren't manufactured very well, but they didn't tell me that when I bought the guitar. I was able to get my money back for the guitar because of the warranty, but I'm still out almost $200 because of the warranty and repairs I had to make for the guitar. I wish someone would have told me this happens a lot because it would have saved me so much time and money. Do NOT buy this guitar!

Comments about Martin X Series GPCX2AE Macassar Grand Performance Acoustic-Electric Guitar:

I fell in love with this guitar the moment I picked it up at Guitar Center. It has a rich sound and feels great while playing it. The only drawback is that the wood bends easily due to dehydration and the lack of a seal finish on the wood. If you live in a dry area or store it in a dry space, make sure to have some chemical hydration packs! Otherwise, the strings will fall onto the frets and it will create a tinny and flat sound until the wood expands again. Finding a case was also difficult (but do-able!) because of the unique shape/measurements of the instrument. Other than these issues, it's an absolutely wonderful guitar!
