This X Series D12X1AE 12-String Dreadnought Acoustic-Electric Guitar features patented high pressure laminate (HPL) mahogany back and sides with a solid Sitka spruce top, patented mortise and tenon neck construction, and professionally installed Fishman electronics. The result: great-sounding, great-playing guitars, that are environmentally friendly, and priced to fly out the door. This is one of Martin's best values ever. The X Series affirms Martin's commitment to providing an affordable and competitive option to players dedicated to live performance.
Martin's X Series D12X1AE acoustic-electric guitar features the D-14 fret auditorium body design, producing full, robust sound. Pairing the solid Sitka spruce top with mahogany-pattern HPL back and sides, the D12X1AE belts out rich clarity with plenty of projection. The mortise and tennon neck joint ensures optimal tone resonating from the guitar, while virtually eliminating drop-off in the finer dynamics.
The Martin guitar's stratabond neck is a multilayered wood creation, bonding layers of wood under extremely high pressure. The material is then carved and finished in a conventional manner. The end result is a very strong neck that provides definition and articulate sustain from note to note.
The modified low oval neck shape, 25.4" scale, 1-11/16" nut width, and 16" radius provide comfort and dexterity when performing intricate movements and progressions along the black Richlite fretboard.
This X Series Martin guitar features proven Sonicore pick-up technology with the Fishman Sonitone system, including "easy access" volume and tone controls conveniently and strategically located just inside the sound hole.
Dressed in a satin finish and featuring chrome tuners, chrome hardware, this 12-string guitar has the look and sound of a highly collectible Martin guitar, but goes for a price that anyone can afford. Embrace the dream of owning your very own Martin guitar, at a price that is too good to pass up.
The Martin D121AE 12-string guitar arrives stage ready-just plug them in and play. All X Series guitars also include a Limited Lifetime Warranty.
Martin has always made prudent use of natural resources, especially rare or endangered tonewoods in making guitars. At the same time, it's committed to building guitars of superior tone and playability that are affordable to every guitarist. The X Series more than meets both of these criteria.

I was shopping for a 12 string less than $1000. I played Taylor, Fender, Epiphone, Ibanez, Takamine, Yamaha, and Martin. Nothing even came close to the tone and playability of this 12 string. Hands down the best balanced tone with the best bass response of any I played. If you are a solid wood guitar purist, this is not the guitar for you. If you forget everything and let your ear and hands pick your 12 string, this is the guitar for you. Try it, you won't believe it! For gigging, I play through a Fishman SoloAmp 220 and was able to tweak the simple Fishman Sonitone system to get the sound I wanted (thanks GC for having the same setup in their sound room!). The downside: quality. Within 2 weeks, the velcro pad inside the guitar that holds the 9v battery lost its adhesiveness - and I never even touched it to change the battery. The battery and pad were swinging by the wires inside. Made in Mexico, and a less than ideal setup for the battery (very cumbersome to access). All in all, a minor flaw in my opinion for a killer sounding 12 string that plays like a dream. I'm still happy with my purchase and would recommend this to anyone in the market for a 12.
Owned many 12 string guitars; Guilds mostly. I was very impressed by the tone and responce from this guitar. Great action, very sturdy, very playable. Martin has out done themselves. How many other guitars have you owned that keep in tune for more than 5 days! Awesome.
Sounds great and looks great - but look very carefully and contact Martin if you are comparing it to the "custom". The "custom" is cheaper and it is the same guitar. The sticker inside is different and the strings are different. Martin says the bridge, top, and tuners are the same. My "custom" didn't have the neck adjusted right, or the strings on right, and the 1/4 electric input came out in the first week, so I "upgraded". I couldn't tell the difference and contacted Martin. Between the warranty and the "upgrade" I think I am out an extra $100 or so. I love Guitar Center and trust that they were just trying to get a special deal for their customers by inventing the "custom", but my "upgrade" cost me $100. It's the same guitar. Buy the custom, change the strings.
What can I say. It's a Martin. Enough said. Beautiful tone, action is great and sounds so good and looks good.Harmonics are clean and crisp. Playabilty is phenomenal. I recommend this guitar to anyone looking for a quality instrument that you'll love forever.
I have been playing now for about 40 years and own an Ovation Balladeer 6751 12 string that has served me well. I was looking for a guitar that projected better unplugged. I visited the local guitar stores and tried all of the 12 strings in the under $1000 price range that I could. What a beautiful sound. The guitar just sang to me. The lows were impressive and it played very easily. I was sold almost immediately. If it came with a better preamp and maybe a gloss finish I would give it 5 stars. For the price, I couldn't find a better playing or sounding 12 string. Kudos to Martin.
This is the fourth Martin I own. For a plain jane guitar and the price you can't go wrong! It is a real Booming guitar and sounds great. Then I plugged it in. You can't beat this thing! Granted it is no where as nice and as nice to look at as my D-45, but I would buy it again. The only thing negitive I would have to say about it is Martin needs to bring there guitar making and production back home to the USA.
Fantastic sound, clean, full and rich. Add that to the electric pick up addition of this great instrument and you have the whole package folk, country or rock is just work. When I purchased mine I didn't know it was also electric I just knew it had a great sound. Then I found out it was also electric and WOW. What more could you ask for Martin sound and quality ease of play (light action for a 12 string)at an off brand price. Fit and finish above reproach.
I've been playing guitar for about 2 years now and my teacher suggested I might like a 12 string someday. Well, I finally bought this Martin 12 string to add to my collection and the sound is so beautiful that's it's magical... just love the sound. It's great for many of the songs I play. I already own several very good 6 string guitars that are wonderful but this 12 string is special. My teacher who has been playing guitar for over 30 years is also impressed. I also don't find the size of the guitar too big. I'm very happy with this guitar! Eileen
I've been looking for an affordable 12 string AE for quite some time. Testing just about every brand and every model, I ended up buying a few over the years only to turn around and sell them. The only affordable guitars I found that were stage ready and had the right stuff to hold up to the rigors of stage work while not completely breaking my bank account were in the $850.00 to $1000.00 price range, (still out of this retiree's budget). However, when I got the call from an old and dear friend wanting to start our late 60's and early 70's folk group back up, I panicked! I'd been waiting for that call for decades and never thought it would come. I always played 12 in the group and didn't have one! The gorgeous Italian EKO, hand made, trustworthy 12 string I used back in the day had been stolen years ago and I couldn't find anything affordable that could touch it. I went back to Guitar Center, found the D12X1AE and worked a smokin' hot deal with my regular salesman. The D12X1AE is not flashy by any means but when I started playing it, I thought I'd died and gone to heaven. How did I miss this guitar? The name Martin likely scared me away before even asking the price. With this guitar, it's not that "beauty only goes skin deep". This guitar's beauty comes from within and it's the sound of a Martin costing much, much more! The action is low, easy, sweet and the tone is, without a doubt, all Martin while staying in tune after pounding it for an hour. (Unheard of for a 12!) It even has that unmistakeable new Martin smell! I actually had to ask myself, "Is this guitar miss-priced?" Nope! OK. It's made in Mexico. However, it plays, sounds and looks like it was made in Nazareth, PA. Take it from someone who has already done all the footwork. This is, without a doubt, the best 12 string acoustic electric in the world at this price! There's one now in my house and I can't wait to put it to work. Don't want to take it from me? Go play one and take your credit card, check or cash!
I have not played guitar since I was a teenager. I'm a pastor and I wanted to be able to lead praise and worship at services and during prayer times. I stopped in to my local GC and played several guitars but when I found this one I was sold! I play it every day now and love the sound and tone. I get compliments on this guitar all the time. I'm very happy with this purchase.
