Overview

The custom 6-string X Series Custom DX1 Dreadnought Acoustic Guitar features a D-14 dreadnought body designed to produce a powerful, well-balanced tone that is perfect for live performance and in the studio. Pairing the Sitka spruce top with the mahogany HPL back and sides, this X Series Custom DX1 has a big, punchy tone, with all the sustain you have come to expect from a Martin guitar. The mortise-and-tenon neck joint ensures solid construction of the guitar, with optimal resonant tone, while eliminating drop-off in the finer dynamics.

This Martin guitar's laminate birch neck is a multilayered wood creation, bonding layers of wood under extremely high pressure. The material is then carved and finished in a conventional manner. The end result is a very strong neck that provides definition and articulate sustain from note to note.

The modified low oval neck shape, 25.4 in. scale, 1-11/16 in. nut width, and 16 in. radius provide comfort and dexterity when performing intricate movements and progressions along the black Richlite fretboard.

Other features include a hand-rubbed satin finish, customized rosette, East Indian rosewood HPL headplate and chrome tuners. This guitar has the look and sound of a highly collectible Martin guitar, but goes for a price that anyone can afford. Embrace the dream of owning your very own Martin guitar, at a price that is too good to pass up.

Case sold separately.

This is my 3rd Martin! This will be used for travel and to and from the various classes I go to. I also have a 0001XAE and a DCPA4. I love this guitar it looks beautiful and has that great Martin tone! I was thinking about a Yamaha FS or FG availability was a problem and the ones I was able to play I was not impressed. So the Custom X series was it!

I was very frustrated with this guitar. I ordered it from Guitar Center. After playing it for a few moments I checked the action at the 12th fret. The action was set at 3/32 which is standard setting. The problem was that the saddle was very low. When measured, there was only 2/32 of saddle showing. I called Martin and they promptly told me to return the guitar. They said there should be 4 to 5/32 of saddle showing for adjustment purposes. There was simply not enough saddle left to lower the action in the future without a neck reset. I am not sure, but I felt the neck angle was set incorrectly on this guitar. I was also not really thrilled with the tone. HPL just can't compete with real wood. It was also very heavy due to the HPL construction. I felt like I was lugging my Les Paul around. I promptly sent it back.

    Great Guitar for the Price

Comments about Martin X Series Custom DX1 Dreadnought Acoustic Guitar:

Picked out this guitar for traveling and specifically this one since it doesn't have electronics. Right out of the box, had great sound. Had the action adjusted which is to be expected. Play it almost every morning before leaving for work. I bought it on sale but it's worth the price even if it wasn't on sale.

Great Guitar at a Great Price

Comments about Martin X Series Custom DX1 Dreadnought Acoustic Guitar:

I bought this guitar during a Labor Day sale where it was offered at $100 off. There were great reviews of the guitar already online, and those reviews I believe are pretty accurate. The guitar has a wonderful tone and sounds great either strumming or picking. I think the Martin quality and heritage has trickled down into this relatively inexpensive instrument.

Comments about Martin X Series Custom DX1 Dreadnought Acoustic Guitar:

The Martin DX1 is exactly what I have been looking for. Don't let the High Pressure Laminate construction scare you away. This guitar is built for the long haul. I've had cheaper Chinese built guitars and the DX1 blows them away. The neck wood is so strong that it cannot be hand carved, Martin craftsmen have to use high speed diamond bits to shape the wood laminate. the whole guitar is strong and solid. This guitar came strung with Martin's Lifespan strings that sound very good. This guitar sounds expensive. Martin did their homework on this little gem. I really like the neck width and string spacing on this guitar, If you are a person with thick fingers, you might want to give this one a try. I just find Martin Guitars
to be so much more comfortable to do the more difficult chords on. I struggled with this for a long time and the Martin DX1 has been great for this beginner guitar player. If you are struggling with your acoustic and it just don't feel right to you, give the Martin DX1 a try. I think you will like it. This guitar is a keeper and I'm so happy that I bought a Martin product!

I started playing in 1962 and have played professionally but not so much anymore. I absolutely love this guitar and can find no fault with it at all this and it has an outstanding tone, rings like a bell. I would abo
solutely recommend this guitar. And veterans and first responders get a discount. Doesn't apply on discounted items but the discount on this guitar is greater than the vet and responder discount.

Comments about Martin X Series Custom DX1 Dreadnought Acoustic Guitar:

Not an American made Martin (Mexico) and not solid wood (laminate) but the Martin sound is there. I can't find any fault or flaw with the manufacturing and craftsmanship. It stays in tune well and plays easily with nice base and bright highs. IMHO a very good entry level Martin guitar.

I've been playing 34 years. I have two Les Pauls with the saddle savers on and why I didn't put them on my 2nd Les Paul earlier I'll never know. Do you like to stay in tune? Put 'em on and hammer away, you'll be delighted and amazed. You'll have to deal with the little metal clips that go around the intonation screws so be ready to deal with that; otherwise, they do what the manufacturer claims.
