I have drempt of owning a Martin, for decades, and now I do. Given I didn't have the budget to drop a lot of money for the instrument, I opted for this one. For the money, I couldn't have chosen better. I amazed at the bottom end this guitar has. It is deep, rich, and full bodied, and yet, crisp. The mids and highs are just as rich, full bodied, and crisp. The action is smooth and fast, allowing the guitar to all but play itself. Do Not let the materials used in its construction to fool you. The Martin Quality is there in spades. Regarding the electrics... this instrument sounds just as good, if not better, plugged into your amp. I play through a full stack, and was concerned about the harmonic distortion, but my concerns were immediately laid to rest, with the first strum of a chord. Unplugged, the guitar booms it's glorious voices when needed but is just as crystaline clear when played softly. Do I recommend this instrument? With a loudly resounding YES, I recommend this guitar to anyone, whether novice to performing professional, and all degrees of proficiency in between. I will say, but it's not a criticism, the finish is interesting, given it's not a high gloss, but a satin-like finish. As with any fine instrument one needs to take care of it.

During the Labor Day sale TGC had a great deal on these. My store only had two in stock. I didn't sight down the neck. Heck, it was new it was a Martin. I just played a couple of open chords and heard the sustain and ring that is Martin. I had owned this guitar before and always regretted selling it. It was sturdy and sounded great.

When I found time to sit and bond with it, The further up the fret board I went the more painful it became. Discovering the big Bow in the neck didn't bother me. I could adjust it. My hex key found only air, a large hole where a truss rod should be. I took it back to the store. I told the tech "I just bought this and the neck needs adjusting. Sure, no problem, he replied. I suppressed a smile as he put it on the bench and inserted his hex wrench. "There is no truss rod in this guitar." He told me mine was the second that had come back with no truss rod.

After he told me they were sold out and was a week or so away. He gave me a full refund and that ended that transaction.

The two star rating is based purely on the particular guitar I bought. Everyone can have a bad day but forgetting a truss rod?

Bad purchase, Martin still makes great guitars. Mexico needs better quality control and The Guitar Center rocks.

Comments about Martin X Series 2015 X1-DE Custom Dreadnought Acoustic-Electric Guitar:

I bought this Martin because I wanted a guitar that I could take traveling, and not worry so much about it getting damaged. The surprising part was the tone was way beyond my expectations. Sounded, and played better than guitars I tried costing thousands more. I played it quite a while in the store along with lots of other acoustic guitars. It really stood out sound wise with low base sounds and clear highs. Mid range blended perfectly with the highs, and lows. Once I got it home I founds one string buzz on the 13th fret B string. Found two high frets. Then a few days later the neck relief started growing. So I checked the truss rod adjustment. The truss rod was completely loose. (Note I see several comments about the truss rod being left out of these guitars. That is not so. The truss rod is way deep up the neck and you must have a very long allen wrench to reach it.) Luckily I have some luthier skills. I re-leveled the frets. Re-crowned and polished them. Set the action at .065 at the 12 fret, and as a stabilizer installed a bridge truss as the bridge already had a sight lean forward to it. Now this guitar plays like butter, and sounds absolutely amazing. It was a little disappointing that I had to spend several hours working on it to make it perfect, but in the end I have a guitar that I think is very durable, plays effortlessly, and has the most beautiful tone I have ever heard come out of a dreadnought. I could have taken it back for an exchange, but past experience has taught me that acoustic guitars rarely ever sound exactly the same. I found one with an excellent tone wood top, and I was not about to risk loosing it. A proper setup on an acoustic guitar is crucial. I played a lot of guitars at GC, and a huge number of them needed to be setup properly. The poor fret leveling job was a factory problem. That is why I gave it four stars instead of five.

Comments about Martin X Series 2015 X1-DE Custom Dreadnought Acoustic-Electric Guitar:

This instrument was quite a surprise. We compared it with other all-wood Martin dreadnoughts in the store ($2000-$3000) and it held its own - Not quite as much sparkle or volume as the high-end models, a little tubbier, but respectable for sure. Plays like butter after a little setup. Simple, clean aesthetics. Neck is stable forever (thin mahogany ply). One piece spruce top and Martin bracing produce the big sound. HPL and Richlite are indestructible.

May not age as dramatically as an all wood instrument, but that is both a pro... and a con.

Cannot argue that this Martin is a stunning value. Perfectly pleased.

I ended up giving this guitar to a friend. His guitar sounded aweful. It sounds amazing in a small church. I have one that is not electric, and I will probably just add a pick up if i need to. A lot of pros seem to think the best sound from acoustics is to just mic it.

I bought this guitar few months ago from Guitar Center.
I've had few acoustic guitars before, but this one is special and worth-paying.
The price isn't too expensive at all for this amazing guitar, you can use it for almost everything that you'd like and it's a Martin- you can't argue with it.
If you're thinking about buying this guitar- do it. You can't be disappointed from a Martin!

I learned to play on my dad's 1937 D-18. I can't afford one of those, or even a new model. This was right in my target price range and I am delighted! It has everything I was looking for (except the lack of fret markers - I'm getting along fine without them) Definitely happy with this guitar.

This is the first Martin I've owned, not the first I've played. I like the tone alot. I played an Alvarez before getting my hands on this one and my Alvarez quickly became my back up guitar. I really like the simple design of the guitar too. There is no inlay and no binding around the top, which I dig. Everyone has been talking about the access to the elctronics. I don't know about ya'all but I change out my battery once every 4-6 months anyway so not a big deal.
