Overview

X Series Guitars feature patented high pressure laminate (HPL) back and sides with a solid Sitka spruce top, patented mortise and tenon neck construction, and professionally installed Fishman electronics. The result: great-sounding, great-playing guitars, that are environmentally friendly, and priced to fly out the door. This is one of Martin's best values ever. The X Series affirms Martin's commitment to providing an affordable and competitive option to players dedicated to live performance.

The 6-string Martin DX1RAE acoustic-electric guitar features a D-14 platform, a dreadnought body design producing big, round sound. Pairing the Sitka spruce top with the Indian rosewood-pattern HPL back and sides, the DX1RAE guitar belts out rich clarity and plenty of projection. The mortise and tennon neck joint ensures solid construction of the guitar, with optimal resonant tone, while eliminating drop-off in the finer dynamics.

The Martin guitar's stratabond neck is a multilayered wood creation, bonding layers of wood under extremely high pressure. The material is then carved and finished in a conventional manner. The end result is a very strong neck that provides definition and articulate sustain from note to note.

The modified low oval neck shape, 25.4" scale, 1-11/16" nut width, and 16" radius provide comfort and dexterity when performing intricate movements and progressions along the black Richlite fretboard.

This X Series Martin acoustic guitar features proven Sonicore pick-up technology with the Fishman Sonitone system featuring "easy access" volume and tone controls conveniently and strategically located just inside the sound hole.

Dressed in a satin finish and featuring chrome tuners, chrome hardware, this guitar has the look and sound of a highly collectible Martin guitar, but goes for a price that anyone can afford. Embrace the dream of owning your very own Martin guitar, at a price that is too good to pass up.

The Martin DX1RAE guitar arrives stage ready-just plug them in and play. All X Series guitars also include a Limited Lifetime Warranty.

Martin has always made prudent use of natural resources, especially rare or endangered tonewoods. At the same time, it's committed to building guitars of superior tone and playability that are affordable to every guitarist. The X Series more than meets both of these criteria.

Awesome guitar!!

By RENEE

Comments about Martin X Series 2015 DX1RAE Dreadnought Acoustic-Electric Guitar:

I bought the Martin DX1RAE for my husband for his birthday. My husband has only had a few lessons thus far but is doing very well. He had an Alvarez but this Martin made the Alvarez sound like a toy guitar. The Martin has such great tone and richness to it that it is so nice to sit and listen to him play. He loves it!!

Dream Guitar

By Brennan King

from Weatherford, OK

Comments about Martin X Series 2015 DX1RAE Dreadnought Acoustic-Electric Guitar:

I have been playing many differing guitars over my 10+ years playing in several bands and as a hobby. I have played several Fenders, Epiphones, Taylors, Gibsons, Breedloves, and Takamines, and, though they all sound superb in their own right, the first time I picked up a Martin acoustic, I was in love. The tone was so deep, and the playability was unrivaled. I wanted a natural looking, plain jane acoustic that let its sound do the talking, then I happened upon the DX1RAE at a GC in OKC. This guitar was everything I wanted. It was an acoustic-electric that had electronics in the sound hole! This kept the electronics from making another hole in the body of the guitar like so many other acoustics. I also liked the input being in the strap nut instead of on the lower end of the guitar. The guitar came with Martin Lifespan strings, and they sound wonderful. I wanted no fretboard inlays, and the DX1 has none, which seems classy to me. I have wanted a Martin for quite some time, and, after playing the DX1, it seemed common sense to purchase one. Of course, this is all personal preference, but as far as quality goes, Martin is top tier, and the DX1RAE is a fantastic guitar for the cost, no matter the music, venue, or whatever musical journey you are on. #MartinPride.

great guitar for the money

By marte maney

from lexington, nc

Comments about Martin X Series 2015 DX1RAE Dreadnought Acoustic-Electric Guitar:

I was looking for a smaller bodied guitar so, I went to GC to look at one I had in mind... Martin 000CXE, I went to the acoustic room, played the guitar and knew immediately, this was not the one for me...then I came across the Martin DX1RAE...loved the look of it...picked it up, played it, took it home...two months later, here I am writing my review...great guitar for the money...very clear voice, full sound but, not for a "heavy hitter"...the size of the guitar is very comfortable and lightweight...excellent for finger-style playing...the action was perfect from jump...nothing needed to be done to this guitar...no setup was needed whatsoever...the electronics are crystal clear...I like where the volume and tone knobs are..in the soundhole...pretty cool...I am not thrilled that the battery is inside the guitar...makes it hard to change in a hurry...

Great Guitar

By Thomas Forsyth

from A

Comments about Martin X Series 2015 DX1RAE Dreadnought Acoustic-Electric Guitar:

I got this at my local GC for $500, they even gave me a free stand. I didn't have an open stand for it and the guy basically said he won't let us have a Martin without a stand... The guitar plays great, out of the box it had great action, no buzzing, everything is perfect. It looks beautiful. The HPL is very durable. I bought a pack of Elixir Light Nanowebs (80/20) and it sounds hands down better than any guitar in the store. Search up Sungha Jung on YouTube, that's what this guitar sounds like with those strings. This guitar is also amazing for percussion (slapping, using it as a drum, etc.). I play a lot of songs with slapping.

Did not disappoint!

By Jonathan Bernstein

from Sierra Madre, CA

Comments about Martin X Series 2015 DX1RAE Dreadnought Acoustic-Electric Guitar:

This is my first steel-string acoustic in more than 20 years, have been playing folk music on nylon strings only until now. But some songs just call out for steel - and the Martin DX1 really delivers. I did change out the stock strings for some #10's, I like the sound better and they're easier on my fingers, but my local guitar mechanic said that nothing (e.g., the bridge) needed tweaking, the guitar was perfect as is!

Awesome value and playability

By Randy F

from Boulder Creek, CA

Comments about Martin X Series 2015 DX1RAE Dreadnought Acoustic-Electric Guitar:

The only downside to Martin's X-series guitar line is that the back and sides cannot be repaired (according to an authorized Martin repair shop in the Bay Area that does not carry the X-series line) in the event of major damage. Nicks, chips, dings and dents can be repaired with superglue. But something that bashes in the upper or lower bout cannot be repaired (unlike wood). BUT! At this price for a Martin Acoustic Electric with a solid spruce top... who cares??? I own one... actually, its my second. I bought one, then bought a D-35 and figured I didn't need the old HPL. Boy was I wrong. Every time someone asked to play my gorgeous D-35 I winced and tried to think up every excuse under the sun... So I went back to GC and bought myself a DXC1E. And I can buy 4 DXC1E guitars, with cases, for what the D-35 cost. So now I have both. I take it everywhere and everyone is impressed with the tone and playability. "It sounds like a Martin!" is what I always get. Yeah, look at the headstock... I reply soto voce. You cannot go wrong with a Martin acoustic/electric.

Full body sound

By Larry Geibel

from Butler PA

Comments about Martin X Series 2015 DX1RAE Dreadnought Acoustic-Electric Guitar:

I just had to get this Martin DX1AE in September of 2010 after playing one that a friend had just baught. ( a student of 1 year) The sound was full, round and rich. I've been playing off and on for over 40 years and the best thing I could say about this guitar is that a blind man would have no trouble picking this out of several other higher priced guitars for its quality of sound. Others I have talked to agree. Just one strum of an E chord will convince anyone who values the sound over fringe that this is a real value. The action is good enough but could be improved with small adjustments. When playing through an amp the acoustic quality holds very well. It has a clean low sheen finish that compliments the acoustic style. It makes playing a lot of fun again.

Amazing for the price

By Jamie Stoike

from Lafayette, IN

Comments about Martin X Series 2015 DX1RAE Dreadnought Acoustic-Electric Guitar:

I've been playing strictly electrics for about 4 years now, and was looking to get a guitar in the $350-$500 price range. The Martin stood head and shoulders above the various Epiphones, Fenders, Ibanezes, and Alvarezes that I tried. The sound is simply extraordinary! Take a strum of an E chord and you'll hear that this sounds like a $1500 guitar. Don't be turned off by some of the weird building materials: they don't affect the sound, and actually make the guitar sound better than others in its class. The only negative comments I have are that the $350-$500 Alvarezes and Fenders look nicer, as the Martin is pretty basic looking. That would be fine, but this means the top is left unfinished, leaving it prone to nics and dents. I've had mine only a few days now and already put a tiny waffle-patterned dent in the top when I accidentally banged it with a microphone. Be really careful around this guitar; I'd suggest getting a hard case immediately and leaving it in the case whenever you aren't using it.

best sound and qulity for your money

By Paul

from wethewrsfield,Ct

Comments about Martin X Series 2015 DX1RAE Dreadnought Acoustic-Electric Guitar:

when i started to shop for a inexpensive Acoustic-Electric Guitar i was looking at epiphone, yamaha, fender, for around the $300 mark but when i tried out this martin it was over. the quality of this guitar for the money is the best i have seen anywhere. from the materials and workmanship to the fisher pickup this guitar is a winner. The only thing i had done in the store was have the tech adjust the neck for better action which he did for free. Good job Martin and guitar center!
