Overview

This X Series D12X1AE 12-String Dreadnought Acoustic-Electric Guitar features patented high pressure laminate (HPL) mahogany back and sides with a solid Sitka spruce top, patented mortise and tenon neck construction, and professionally installed Fishman electronics. The result: great-sounding, great-playing guitars, that are environmentally friendly, and priced to fly out the door. This is one of Martin's best values ever. The X Series affirms Martin's commitment to providing an affordable and competitive option to players dedicated to live performance.

Martin's X Series D12X1AE acoustic-electric guitar features the D-14 fret auditorium body design, producing full, robust sound. Pairing the solid Sitka spruce top with mahogany-pattern HPL back and sides, the D12X1AE belts out rich clarity with plenty of projection. The mortise and tennon neck joint ensures optimal tone resonating from the guitar, while virtually eliminating drop-off in the finer dynamics.

The Martin guitar's stratabond neck is a multilayered wood creation, bonding layers of wood under extremely high pressure. The material is then carved and finished in a conventional manner. The end result is a very strong neck that provides definition and articulate sustain from note to note.

The modified low oval neck shape, 25.4" scale, 1-11/16" nut width, and 16" radius provide comfort and dexterity when performing intricate movements and progressions along the black Richlite fretboard.

This X Series Martin guitar features proven Sonicore pick-up technology with the Fishman Sonitone system, including "easy access" volume and tone controls conveniently and strategically located just inside the sound hole.

Dressed in a satin finish and featuring chrome tuners, chrome hardware, this 12-string guitar has the look and sound of a highly collectible Martin guitar, but goes for a price that anyone can afford. Embrace the dream of owning your very own Martin guitar, at a price that is too good to pass up.

The Martin D121AE 12-string guitar arrives stage ready-just plug them in and play. All X Series guitars also include a Limited Lifetime Warranty.

Martin has always made prudent use of natural resources, especially rare or endangered tonewoods in making guitars. At the same time, it's committed to building guitars of superior tone and playability that are affordable to every guitarist. The X Series more than meets both of these criteria.

Great Entry Level 12 String

By Dave

from Rockford, IL

Comments about Martin X Series 2015 D12X1AE 12-String Dreadnought Acoustic-Electric Guitar:

I picked this up two weeks ago at my local GC. First off, this guitar sounds great, the action is real low and easy to play. Pickup sounds good plugged in and having the tone and volume knobs in the sound hole is pretty cool. The only thing missing when compared to other 12 strings at this level is a built in tuner, but sacrificing the tuner for a better playing and feeling guitar is a no brainer. Granted, this is a Mexican made, laminate sides and back guitar, but when comparing this to the other 12s around this price range, it sounded and felt head and shoulders above the others. If you are having reservations about which 12 string to buy, you won't disappointed if you go with the Martin X series 12.

Rich, flowing sound for a great price!

By Shelton Fisher

Comments about Martin X Series 2015 D12X1AE 12-String Dreadnought Acoustic-Electric Guitar:

I originally was shoping for a Gibson and began to play several Martin guitars and came across this twelve string beauty. I had never played a twelve string before and as I strummed an E chord, the sound overtook me from just how amazing the quality was. This guitar has a sound that not only sounds great plugged into an amp, but also unplugged that is sure to please. For great sound at a steal of a price, this is the guitar for you!

Photo Guitar

By Oscar

from Woodbury MN

Comments about Martin X Series 2015 D12X1AE 12-String Dreadnought Acoustic-Electric Guitar:

I bought this Martin because of its tone. However, I was always curious about its neck,- I wondered what sort of magical striped wood is it made of? It turns out it's a high pressure laminate and that beautiful wood grain pattern on the headstock is actually a photograph! I love this guitar because of its simplicity, but deep down inside I find it disturbing that a brand like Martin uses photo patterns. Come on now.

Comments about Martin X Series 2015 D12X1AE 12-String Dreadnought Acoustic-Electric Guitar:

I had wanted a 12 string for a while.Been playing acoustic for 30yrs but hadnt bought a guitar in at least 8yrs.I decided to go into Guitar Cntr to see the latest and greatest.I always go all the way back to the good stuff.I NEVER look at the $ until after ive played it a min or two because if you like it...whats the difference youre gonna get it anyway.. only really takes about 10 seconds or so ya know.I finally played the MartinXseries 12 string and immediately liked it...a lot.Very playable and sounded pretty good.I joked with the salesman "its only $600 whats wrong with it?"he laughed and explained how and where it was made.I bought it on the spot.I own a 1992Gibson J200 worth prob $3,000.I bought it cause i liked it.The same reason i bought this one.

What a bargain!

By Jim

from Sierra Vista, AZ

Comments about Martin X Series 2015 D12X1AE 12-String Dreadnought Acoustic-Electric Guitar:

I decided it was time for an upgrade and went to our local GC 'just to look'. I picked up the Martin and started playing it and couldn't put it down. It frets so easily and sounded, well, like a Martin. I played it, along with several other guitars, for approximately two hours and always went right back to the Martin. Then I looked at the price! How could anyone serious about a guitar not be impressed. I was sold on the spot. This guitar will hold its own with any others out there. I have a friend that has a Guild 512 and my Martin will play as well if not easier than the Guild. I can't say enough good things about the Martin. The construction is "bomb-proof', fit and finish are excellent and its components can't be beat. If you are considering a 12-string of any type, seriously take a look at this one. You'll be impressed as I was.

Magical 12 String!

By EILEEN SULLIVAN

from Spring Hill, FL

Comments about Martin X Series 2015 D12X1AE 12-String Dreadnought Acoustic-Electric Guitar:

I've been playing guitar for about 2 years now and my teacher suggested I might like a 12 string someday. Well, I finally bought this Martin 12 string to add to my collection and the sound is so beautiful that's it's magical... just love the sound. It's great for many of the songs I play. I already own several very good 6 string guitars that are wonderful but this 12 string is special. My teacher who has been playing guitar for over 30 years is also impressed. I also don't find the size of the guitar too big. I'm very happy with this guitar! Eileen

WOW a serious bargain!!!

By GARY HALLETT

from Covina CA

Comments about Martin X Series 2015 D12X1AE 12-String Dreadnought Acoustic-Electric Guitar:

I went to GC to buy an eleven rack while waiting for my fractal axe fx2. While in there I always look at whats in stock at the time- i stumbled into the acoustic room and saw this. Having always wanted a 12 string acoustic I decided to give it a strum. I was amazed immediately, as first off it was completely in tune (out of picking up several 12 string acoustics over many years this is first rare. I played a while and thought it played and sounded great but the mission for the day was an eleven rack, so finally I hit up a salesman on the eleven rack- well today was my lucky day eleven racks were at half price clearance sale price :o). So while the salesman was getting ready to ring it up I said I think I am going to pick up the Martin also. So i bought it and a case. It wasn't until I got home I saw some knobs in the sound hole and was thinking there's no way this is also electric at the price and quality- sure enough it was. This guitar sounds great and plays great- It's tone is inspiring and a purchase which I would make 1000 times again. I am nothing but happy with it. I will also mention after 2 weeks of playing it has stayed in tune the whole time (a huge plus as tuning a 12 string often is a real pain in the butt). If you are looking for a good 12 string and don't want to spend a fortune- look no further- this instrument is TOP quality in sound and playability. I have plugged it in briefly but can't give a big description on how good the electronics are- but so far they sound good too. My verdict 2 thumbs way up- and a bunch of great sounding sound parts inspired totally by the great sound. Bear in mind as I write this a 12 string acoustic has been on my want list for at least 15 years but I never really found one that really blew me away- Bang for the buck this one does- bottom line- I love it and highly recommend anyone looking for a 12 string to at least check this one out. made in Mexico- so what in my books- I will use and record with this guitar for years to come, and I honestly believe it stacks up real well against many much more expensive guitars. Additionally I took it to a friends house to try- and his thoughts were the same- he didn't want to put it down either!

Great affordable 12 string

By Keith Jaeger

from Hartland, MI

Comments about Martin X Series 2015 D12X1AE 12-String Dreadnought Acoustic-Electric Guitar:

I have been playing now for about 40 years and own an Ovation Balladeer 6751 12 string that has served me well. I was looking for a guitar that projected better unplugged. I visited the local guitar stores and tried all of the 12 strings in the under $1000 price range that I could. What a beautiful sound. The guitar just sang to me. The lows were impressive and it played very easily. I was sold almost immediately. If it came with a better preamp and maybe a gloss finish I would give it 5 stars. For the price, I couldn't find a better playing or sounding 12 string. Kudos to Martin.

I love this Martin 12 string

By James Maxwell

from Hartselle, Alabama

Comments about Martin X Series 2015 D12X1AE 12-String Dreadnought Acoustic-Electric Guitar:

I have not played guitar since I was a teenager. I'm a pastor and I wanted to be able to lead praise and worship at services and during prayer times. I stopped in to my local GC and played several guitars but when I found this one I was sold! I play it every day now and love the sound and tone. I get compliments on this guitar all the time. I'm very happy with this purchase.
