Martin's Best

By Peter Hyatt

from Orrington, Maine

This has to be simply Martin's best overall guitar. The standard series is the basis for all of the Martin guitars and they put their best woods and best workers on their highest guitars (42-45). You can spend more, but that would be for rare woods, or a signature from a famous person. These things increase price, but not quality. The sound is amazing with the best word I have heard used being "butter"; smooth as "butter" with long sustain, perfect balance bass and treble, and a guitar that is comfortable to hold. The beauty of the wood and the inlayed pearl has been recognized since pre war days, with the 42's from the 1930's and 1940's bringing in top dollar. Superlatives do not do this guitar justice. It is, as another reviewer said, worth every penny. It is known as a fingerstyle guitar, perfect for blues and country, but it can be strummed as well, with plenty of volume. American made, it is the best. It is the guitar that all others are compared to, from the company that other companies imitate. 5 Stars!

great tone and harmonics

By Jim

from Philadelphia, PA

Great tone. Compared with other Martins (18 and 28), and Taylors (GS and 800 series) I played at the same time, the timber of the OM-42 seemed richer and somewhat unique. The overtones were robust but compact, thus producing a very rich, strong in the mid tones sound. Upon initial pick, the tone is strong, it has a long sustain and through the sustain the overtones seem to become more pronounced, great vibration from the top / bridge and from the neck. Action was a little too high, but other than that it played great

Nice Nice Guitar

By John Moyer

from Greenwood, IN

have always dreamed of owning a Martin. Well, I've found that my dreams can come true. The Martin is the perfect fit for the accomplished player"The Price is Right" while considering this instrument. Imagine, playing a piece of history. With the Martin Company being in existence for 175 years. That alone should say it all. I once had a friend that used to say. Why buy the guitar that the biggest sales pitch is, "it is as good as the Martin", when you can buy the "as good as" model itself? Believe me, to sit down and play The sound surrounds you in a complete way that to experience the way it sounds and feels is only the true measurement of it's worth. My words can only entice you. Let the full, rich sound of the history of how the D41 is made capture you too. I have played many, many acoustic guitars (and own many as well). From my Taylor 814CE to my lowly Gibson dreads. Understand, you must own a Martin to complete your guitar inventory. My problem is, I only want to play my Martin. I also love the 175 years of history behind my Martin. It is truly the "as good as" guitar. Why own anything else?
