38 YEARS

By Jim Meyer

from St. Paul, MN

Comments about Martin Standard Series D12-28 12-String Dreadnought Guitar:

Bought my D12-28 in 1972. It is far better sounding today than when I bought it...and I bought it for the great tone! One reviewer asked how long the D12-28 will last...mine has through the years, but I have taken care of it too. I had electronics installed years ago and I use a little chorus on a Fender Acoustasonic amp for a sound that's out of this world. If you are considering a D12-28, don't worry about longevity, it is an absolute amazing guitar.

Martin D12-28 12-String Dreadnought Guitar

By John

from Undisclosed

Comments about Martin Standard Series D12-28 12-String Dreadnought Guitar:

Well Ill start by saying that it is a good guitar, and has an amazing sound and tone. However, Martin is doing it again. The majority of your money is going into the name. When I played it I thought it was a great one, but then the price shot me down and my love for it seemed to go away. For those that have the money, Get It!! but for the rest of us, keep looking.

What? It's not a real Martin?!

Comments about Martin Standard Series D12-28 12-String Dreadnought Guitar:

The good: The Martin name. Who doesn't like that?! It sound great, feels great, plays great. The bad: Who knows about the long-term durability...I wish it had a pickup, but hey... Overall: Great. You can't beat a 12-string that says Martin on the headstock for this price.

Yee-Haaaa!!, Martin Rules

By Geobob

Comments about Martin Standard Series D12-28 12-String Dreadnought Guitar:

Just got my new D12-28 a couple weeks ago. It filled all my expectations. I plan to have the local Guitar Center store guitar tech install a Miniflex 2mic system in it like I have on my D-35. If you can't afford an upper end Martin, save up to buy one, you won't be sorry.

Gorgeous sound from a beautiful guitar.....

By William

Comments about Martin Standard Series D12-28 12-String Dreadnought Guitar:

This is my first 12-string, and my first Martin, if you don't count my little Martin Backpacker. And man, this thing is a beauty! It came fast, was easy to tune, and practically plays itself. I don't have big hands, and worried about a twelver but this thing has a super nice action and the perfect size neck. It really sings. I can't stop playing it! I'd highly recommend it to any player looking that lush twelve string sound. Super workmanship on this thing, too, just what I'd expect from Martin.

Very nice guitar.

Comments about Martin Standard Series D12-28 12-String Dreadnought Guitar:

I also have a Martin D-45V and I have to say the construction of the D-28 was better than the D-45V. The 12 string was flawless while the D-45V had some minor build issues. The bridge on the D-45V cracked and it took almost 6 months to get it replaced. At the time Martin in Nazareth had a backlog of 900 guitars waiting for repair. Keep in mind the D-45V costs about 4 times more. The sound is excellent although the tone does have a bit of hardness. That's where the D-45V excels. I'm hoping the tone will mellow over time. Still, when you get the tuning just right, it really sings. If you want a real made in USA Martin, buy now. Chris Martin is thinking about stepping down and there's no Martin's in line to take over. Chris' daughter, even if she wanted it and had the business smarts, is too young to take over now. I heard he might possibly sell to the Japanese. I doubt a buyer would devalue the brand by moving construction overseas but you never know. Many US guitar companies already build their low end stuff overseas.

Comments about Martin Standard Series D12-28 12-String Dreadnought Guitar:

Have had my Martin D12-28 for 10 years now. I have no regrets, and it sounds better every year. I have owned 12 strings from other guitar makers, they were good, but not as good as my Martin.

Comments about Martin Standard Series D12-28 12-String Dreadnought Guitar:

12 string guitars are uncommon and all those I've owned or played had tuning issues, uneven balance between bass and treble and some twangy/funky sounds that are OK for certain pieces but not uniformly desirable. This guitar has a perfect balance and keeps a steady tuning, relatively speaking. It has the richest, fullest sound of any instrument I've played, which goes back decades. My use is mostly bluegrass, folk and some country with some pop on occasion. It's great for either strumming or picking.
