Overview

The tone of the Martin D-28 Acoustic Guitar is what separates it from all other guitars. It has a solid Sitka spruce top with glossy finish, special East Indian rosewood for the polished back and sides, and genuine ebony fingerboard and bridge. With its rich, resonant warmth and punchy volume, the D-28 is particularly well-suited to music styles requiring loud, powerful rhythm accompaniment. Includes Martin deluxe hardshell case and limited lifetime warranty.

Martin Dreadnought
The very first dreadnought guitars were designed and crafted by C. F. Martin & Co. in 1916, but marketed in Boston and New York exclusively under the Oliver Ditson brand. Originally made for Hawaiian slide playing style, the very first dreadnought made was a Model 222 shipped to Ditson in August of 1916. After Ditson went out of business in the early 1930s, Martin introduced the D-1 and D-2 dreadnoughts for standard playing style that would soon become Martin’s iconic D-18 and D-28 models. Over the past 100 years, the Martin dreadnought has helped define what an acoustic guitar can and should be, and subsequently, it has become one of the most popular acoustic guitar designs in the world.

Comments about Martin Standard Series D-28 Dreadnought Acoustic Guitar:

I was not sure about buying a D-28 but played one and really loved the neck and great tone! I hear a lot of people love this guitar as well as the haters... All I can say is I had a nice Taylor 512 12 fret and a larrivee d-05 I love both of these guitars but would choose my D-28 over them both! Not for looks but for great deep sound! That's my preference! Guitar Center Plano did an awesome job helping me out and making me feel good about my purchase!

Comments about Martin Standard Series D-28 Dreadnought Acoustic Guitar:

I've owned my Martin 28 since 1981. Still hasn't Belled. Neck straight. Action perfect. Plays like a professional guitar is suppose to play. If you are going to play. Enjoy playing. Don't buy no junk or cheap guitar. That's my 2 cent.

Comments about Martin Standard Series D-28 Dreadnought Acoustic Guitar:

First off my guitar is the D-28P, no longer a standard offer, but other than the neck it is the same guitar. I bought it over a year ago. When I first got it I wasn't all that impressed but over the year it has became my favorite out of the 9 guitars I own. The P neck I have really learned to like for flatpicking individual notes, decreases my chance of fingering multiple strings and prevents muffled sounds, yet doesn't hamper strumming chords. The sound has improved dramatically over the past year as it has opened up. The top has beautiful grain and is perfectly book matched, the sides are nicely matched also.

Now for the complaints (minor cosmetic complaints). The back is not book matched, the wood is pretty but not book matched like the rosewood side. At the 15th and 16th fret there are glue splatters, which I didn't notice till after having the guitar for a month. These complaints are minor but still disappointing for $2400 guitar, and I would consider the D-28 Martins flagship axe, so I would expect better quality control. Still I love the guitar but can't give it a 5.

Comments about Martin Standard Series D-28 Dreadnought Acoustic Guitar:

I've been playing for a long time. I originally bought a Taylor 810, which I still have and am completely/utterly disappointed by. When I got this D-28, I knew immediately that I'd struck gold. The only complaint I have is that the action was set so high that it was barely playable. This, of course, is a factory issue and has nothing to do with Musician's Friend. As of this writing, the guitar is still at my local guitar store where it's been since I received it 3 days ago. I have played this model, just not my own. I was awed by this guitar's performance, when I played it. Play it. You'll want one too. Well balanced, suitable to all styles. Deep powerful bass and sharp crystal clear highs. Great sustain. I really don't have you prototypical guitar player's hands, but this neck on this baby makes it easy.

            Martin doesn't need an introduction

            By JOE ACCARDI

            from Lake Worth, FL

Comments about Martin Standard Series D-28 Dreadnought Acoustic Guitar:

And you don't need another person telling you how great the D28 feels, how beautiful it looks or how wonderful it sounds. It is all of that in spades. There is not a note on any fret that comes up sharp of what it's supposed to be. Martin didn't design this guitar, his guardian angel did. Every time I went into a GC store I'd go in the back and try the Tayler's, Martin's, Gibson's...I always came back to the D28. I couldn't afford a new one, but started saving my pennies. While saving I came up with the idea of checking GC's web site for used D28's. Everyone knows that a Martin guitar gets better with age. Right? Now vintage is going to be way out of my price range, but I found that a 3-15 year old isn't as pricey as you might think. I found 8 guitars that were already affordable, but I will admit I included the D35's in my search. My hat's off to everyone at all the Guitar Center stores across the country. Everyone I spoke to gave me an honest evaluation of the guitar they had at their store. It only took 3 phone calls to find a 2005 model with the hardshell case. I still saved $1000 even with the shipping charges & tax. I got lucky. The previous owner never took the plastic protective sheet off of the pick guard. Yes...I did take it off. The guitar has to have some character, right? Many thanks to Mark in the Sranton PA GC. This guitar is appreciated more than you can imagine.

This is my first Martin and I couldn't be happier with it. The instrument itself is as beautiful as the sound it produces. Chris Martin says his iconic company produces "a tone wrapped in wood." Yep...and what a tone it is!

Comments about Martin Standard Series D-28 Dreadnought Acoustic Guitar:

Most guitar players know that the Martin D-28 is the gold standard in acoustic dreadnaught guitars. I had been looking for a good deal on one online and found a a gently used one here in Musicians Friend. The price was really good so I took a leap of faith and purchased it. I expected to see some slight cosmetic issues but when it arrived it was spotless. It looked and played beautifully and I could not be more pleased. It is not often in this life that you get something that turned out better than you expected. I love it!!!!
