The Martin HD-28 Standard Dreadnought Acoustic is the re-creation of Martin's legendary herringbone-style 28 guitars. It has a Sitka spruce top, solid rosewood back and sides, and mahogany neck with ebony fingerboard. Vintage appointments include herringbone top trim, a traditional zigzag backstrip, and Martin's famous scalloped X-bracing that allows the top to vibrate more freely, yielding a louder, more open tone. This Standard Series Custom HD-28E Dreadnought Acoustic-Electric Guitar adds onboard Martin Gold+Plus electronics giving your live and studio performances the versatility and accuracy of plugging in. Limited lifetime warranty.

Includes case.

Martin Thinline Gold+Plus Acoustic Pickup System
The Martin Thinline Gold+Plus Acoustic Pickup System's patented design solves the age-old problems of string balance, string spacing and wire-hole placement. That means you can use this pickup on virtually any acoustic guitar.

Martin crafts the Thinline pickup using a highly sensitive copolymer specifically formulated for it. The short distance from the undersaddle pickup to its internally mounted preamp maintains signal integrity. The preamp is designed for guitars that are amplified at high volumes, especially full-size guitars.

The Martin Gold+Plus Pickup is voiced to control boominess and to provide extra brightness. Recommended for musicians in situations where the guitar needs to stand out and sound natural without feedback. The Martin Thinline Gold+Plus Pickup's preamp circuitry gives a battery life of up to 12,000 hours.

Martin Dreadnought
The very first dreadnought guitars were designed and crafted by C. F. Martin & Co. in 1916, but marketed in Boston and New York exclusively under the Oliver Ditson brand. Originally made for Hawaiian slide playing style, the very first dreadnought made was a Model 222 shipped to Ditson in August of 1916. After Ditson went out of business in the early 1930s, Martin introduced the D-1 and D-2 dreadnoughts for standard playing style that would soon become Martin’s iconic D-18 and D-28 models. Over the past 100 years, the Martin dreadnought has helped define what an acoustic guitar can and should be, and subsequently, it has become one of the most popular acoustic guitar designs in the world.

Comments about Martin Standard Series Custom HD-28E Dreadnought Acoustic-Electric Guitar:

I love Martin guitars. The way they feel, the way they sound - with good projection & excellent bass response. This purchase was my second Martin, but I have played many over the years. I hoped to get that "perfect fit" high end Martin and spent over a year searching shops trying to find "the one." Not having much luck finding what I wanted in the right price range ($3,000 - $4,000), I decided to try buying online from GC. I would not do this again!

First off, the guitar did not arrive as advertised. It did not have the Fishman active electronics with sound hole adjustable pots for volume and tone. In fact, GC could not tell me what was in the guitar when I contacted the nearest store (an hour's drive) nor when I called the main customer service number. I finally had to call Martin to find out what was in the guitar. It was a Martin Thinline Gold Plus. I did not have a big problem with this, but was taken aback.

Worse, though, was the action. The high end strings buzzed badly against the frets and the action was too high. The folks at the nearest GC told me that they could not adjust the action, truss rod, or anything on the guitar for me unless I spent hundreds of dollars buying the GC Pro protection plan. To do so, they said, would void my warranty. My only option was to send the guitar back and try another one. So that's what I did.

The 2nd guitar GC sent to me also had the wrong electronics & the action was way too high. I then took this guitar to a different GC (about a 1.5 hour drive) to see what they could do. For $50 they could adjust the action. For a new high end Martin, I expected the setup to be provided by the seller for free, but paid up. This was far less than the GC Pro protection plan; I was assured that it would NOT void my warranty. The tech was very willing to work with me, but after 4 months of back and forth (with hours & hours of driving), I was tired of the ordeal and decided to take the guitar elsewhere or sell it.
