Comments about Martin Special Edition DC-Aura GT Cutaway Dreadnought Acoustic-Electric Guitar:

The best acoustic I ever owned prior to this guitar (my first Martin) was pre-Fender Guild D-55. Loved it, but wanted A) cutaway for better playability, B) built-in electronics. The D55 had a very sweet tone, was loud with tons of bottom, but I found myself loving the brighter with better mid-range tone of the DC Aura for it's versatility. After playing a Taylor 810ce, Gibson Hummingbird Pro cutaway, and the DC Aura at Guitar Center, I made my decision. I REALLY wanted to love the Gibson, because of its looks (3 color burst was beautiful like my D55) but Sadly, I did not. Of the 3, the Gibson was the least playable by a wide margin. Was like dating a dull-witted model with no energy.....gorgeous, but really boring. The Taylor was also a disappointment, but not because it didn't sound great or play well.... simply because I expected so much more for the price. The DC Aura just fit my hand perfectly, was set up to perfection withe lowest, easiest action, seemed extremely easy to tune with the new "skeleton" tuning keys. Nice touch. Plugged in, I thought the Taylor sound was the equal or better, but that is really subjective and amp-dependent. After a month now, I only love this guitar more.

Comments about Martin Special Edition DC-Aura GT Cutaway Dreadnought Acoustic-Electric Guitar:

Wow! This thing is sick!! Purchased a JCPA4 last year. After one of the house Luthiers (Sergio) carved a bone saddle and put in some ebony pins she sounded beautiful, but her neck warped and I had to mourn her and say goodbye. Martin brought the Dreadnought to popular music so I figured I'd look into getting one, seeking a replacement. This "premium" GT had a price drop . After a lot of praying and some good will from the manager (Brett) at the Orange, CA store, who graced me with a generous discount, I was able to bring this beauty home. The sound is huge unplugged. My former Martin sounded great but this guitar has a big even tone that sings with rich lows and balanced highs. Great tonal colors from all frequencies. And that was just out of the box. After dressing her with Martin ebony pins the sustain was even longer and tonal qualities even smoother. This blessing stayed in her case hydrating for 24 hours and frankly I was intimidated to pick her up because she is truly a work of art. The pearl inlay around the sound hole and all the way up the Blackwood fret board are everything they should be. The ebony plated headstock is a rich elegant appointment that is well accentuated by the sparkling skeleton key tuners. The binding on the neck and body are great too, particularly on the Sitka Spruce top. With just a touch of color it accents the inlay and draws the presentation together. After plugging in and watching the accompanying DVD I realized the immense potential this guitar has for performance and recording. There are thousands of dollars worth of microphone sounds that can be scooped, blended, EQ'd and compressed all right on board. The upgraded tuner's a marvel. Easy mode provides three great sounds for simplicity. There are even phase and feedback settings. This guitar sounds light years ahead of the old tinny piezo quality. It's fair to say this is one of the best guitar electronic systems in the world. So glad I bought ProCoverage.

Comments about Martin Special Edition DC-Aura GT Cutaway Dreadnought Acoustic-Electric Guitar:

I have owned this guitar for several years now. It's the best sounding guitar I've found!
I originally thought I would be buying a Taylor because I loved how bright they sound, Martin's, however, had more body and denser, more "real" sound (some Taylors felt almost like toys they were so bright). I was ready to spend a lot of money on a guitar and wanted the sound to be exactly how I wanted it, not close enough. When I picked up this guitar, I was so happy I finally found the sound! It's like a perfect combination of everything I liked in Taylors and Martins. The Sitka Spruce top gives it a vibrant crisp, bright, and warm tone and still sounds like a real dense, wood guitar. It's still hard for me to describe the sound, but you'll know it when you hear it. I cannot say enough good things about this guitar!!!... and it was actually cheaper than a lot of the other Martins and Taylors I looked at! The looks are amazing as well. It still smells so woody everytime I take it out of the case. But nothing makes me as happy as the sound! I honestly have no idea why they're not selling if for twice as much just based on the materials and how its built. But you can't put a price on that sound! Really nice electronics on it as well! There is nothing I can come up with to improve this guitar.

Comments about Martin Special Edition DC-Aura GT Cutaway Dreadnought Acoustic-Electric Guitar:

Took a chance and ordered without trying based on description, specs, and reviews. I am extremely happy with this purchase. Arrived in perfect condition, setup is spot on to Martin spec though I prefer a slightly lower action. Instrument quality is great, feels and plays well, and the sound is very sweet.
