Overview

The Martin DRS1 Dreadnought Acoustic-Electric Guitar marks the return of Martin's Road Series, which was originally introduced in 2001, designed for working and traveling guitarists on a modest budget, who require their instrument to be durable without giving up the quality of its sound.

The top, back and sides are crafted of solid sapele and braced for resonance and projection. The DRS1 neck is built with solid mahogany for extra rigidity and durability, and the belly bridge and fingerboard are made of Richlite that achieves a similar look to ebony.

This DRS1 comes equipped with the Fishman Sonitone sound reinforcement system, which has a preamp mounted in the soundhole with rotary controls for volume and tone. The Sonitone is powered by a 9-volt battery and has an endpin jack. Includes case.

Sounds AND looks great!

Comments about Martin Road Series 2015 DRS1 Dreadnought Acoustic-Electric Guitar:

I have had the guitar less than a month but I love it. I played every acoustic-electric that my Guitar Center had under $1,000. My intention was to buy a cut-out but after every guitar I played, I went back to this one. It has such a full sound (not sure how else to describe it). As beautiful as the guitar is, its sound is what won me over. Hard case that it comes with was a pleasant bonus. I would buy it again in a heartbeat!

Best Uses

Comments about Martin Road Series 2015 DRS1 Dreadnought Acoustic-Electric Guitar:

I normally don't like the sound of mahogany acoustics. I went to Guitar Center planning on either a Taylor or a Martin X series as I had played these at the store before and had narowed my choices down to these guitars in my budget. On purchasing day I picked this DRS-1 up on a whim since I was having trouble deciding. Man, am I glad I did. The tone is absolutely amazing; it doesn't sound like your typical mahogany guitar, it has a great, balanced sound with clear highs, nice mids and good, deep bass. Every other mahogany I ever tried sounded... muffled? Not this one. Fit and finish are flawless. It plays like a dream. I actually think the new Richlite materials they are using are a cool idea. The onboard electronics sound great through the PA at church. And it comes with a case?! You can't beat this guitar for looks, smell, price, playability and construction. Play one if you're looking in this price range, you may be pleasantly surprised. I was.

Comments about Martin Road Series 2015 DRS1 Dreadnought Acoustic-Electric Guitar:

The neck is NOT mahogany as is stated on this website. It is Stratabond, which is a laminated birch material. I have had the DRS-1 for two years now and I love it. While it lacks some brightness and projection as compared with spruce-topped Martins, it has a warm, round tone that won me over. The warmth and midrange make it an excellent choice for playing acoustic leads. It still sounds brighter than any Guild, Fender, Ovation, Gibson, Breedlove, or Yamaha I have tried and it does retain that high-frequency Martin sparkle. The only way to beat the tone of the DRS-1 in my opinion is to get a Taylor or a higher-end Martin. Only Taylor guitars are more playable. This made-in-Mexico acoustic is a winner. I would definitely replace it or get a higher-end Martin or Taylor, but for the money, this is a great choice.

Comments about Martin Road Series 2015 DRS1 Dreadnought Acoustic-Electric Guitar:

Purchased this a year ago as an upgrade and reliable touring acoustic. I have played across the USA and have had this thing through changing climates and temperatures cold and hot in the trunk of a car, in the van, and in trailers. It came with a very sturdy case, and after playing over 50 shows in the year an countless hours of practice and even some recording, I still haven't had to change the battery lol! Completely happy with this guitar and it will see Europe next spring, which I'm confident it will stand up to the travel and abuse.

Comments about Martin Road Series 2015 DRS1 Dreadnought Acoustic-Electric Guitar:

This certainly is a dreadnought worth buying. This RS1 has the same tone as my $2,000 Martin GC-MMV custom dreadnought, but includes a built-in Fishman Sonitone pickup system that includes an undersaddle transducer with sound hole mounted volume and tone controls. Plug into a Fishman acoustic amplifier and you're ready for open Mic or a small room concert. The sapelle (sometimes referred to as African mahogany because it has the same wood characteristics) ensures strong sand lasting construction (although a bit heavy) and will only sound richer with age, provided it is humidified correctly (which should be a concern for all hollow wood instruments). The hard case that comes with this guitar is the same case that came with my Martin that costs three times as much. I am very pleased with this purchase.
