Overview

The Martin OMCPA4 Orchestra Acoustic-Electric Guitar is constructed with solid tonewoods. The back and sides are matched from African sapele, similar in appearance and tone to mahogany. Bookmatched Sitka spruce soundboards utilize Martin's Hybrid "A-Frame" scalloped bracing.

The OMCPA4 features a slim, more parallel taper at the 12th fret, allowing for a more comfortable playing width up the neck. The bridge spacing is also modified to 2 3/16" - splitting the difference between Martin's two traditional spacings.

Along with the look, feel, and enhanced performance of Martin's existing Performing Artist Series models, the OMCPA4 also has the new, simplified Fishman F1 Analog electronics system. Includes case.

Really played this guitar for the first time yesterday. Sounded great, and easy to play. I played for much longer than I used to on my old guitar. Great fun!

    Solid, Great Sounding Guitar

    By Alan A.

    from Huntsville AL

Comments about Martin Performing Artist Series OMCPA4 Orchestra Model Acoustic-Electric Guitar:

I've had mine about four months . . . one of the best guitar set-ups out of the box I've encountered. Plays great . . . distinct, well rounded, and full sound both acoustically and amplified . . . compared it to a Taylor and dollar for dollar the Martin OMCPA4 is a real winner. Every picker I've let play it says it's just a great guitar. This one is a keeper.

    Martin's Budget Wonder!

    By David Lazerow

    from Hartford, CT

Comments about Martin Performing Artist Series OMCPA4 Orchestra Model Acoustic-Electric Guitar:

I've owned several Martin's and was looking for a reasonably priced model that sounded good. Out of the box the action and playability was better than all the others in this price range. Went to my Martin-approved luthier who made a good box into a much better one. Now I hadn't played for a while since I had been guitarless for too long so it took a few weeks to get my fingers into shape. Now I feel like I'm back in the music groove with my sweet Martin. the sapele neck back 'n sides with the spruce top sounds very, very good and is coherent and refined from top to bottom, if a bit bright, similar to some of the Taylors and the workmanship top-notch. The Fishman F-1 analog pickup system sounds just fine with my cheapie Harbinger PA. the micarta fingerboard and bridge material does the job and has a good feel to it. I'm using D'addario PB custom lights instead of the light guage Martin strings it came with. I strongly suggest trying out as many guitars as you can and when you find one that feels and sounds wonderful that you take it immediately to your authorized Martin guy and have it evaluated and professionally set up. You should get returned privileges when you buy from an authorized dealer if you decide your purchase isn't working for ya. Happy playing!

    Outstanding

    By Jesus Rodriguez

    from Miami, FL

Comments about Martin Performing Artist Series OMCPA4 Orchestra Model Acoustic-Electric Guitar:

Pay attention to the coupons and sales events you received from Guitar Center. The Friday the 13th sale from Guitar Center had me go in and find this gem at an unbeatable price. I was between this one and the regular CPA4, and this little masterpiece absolutely took the cake. The size and shape make this the most comfortable acoustic in my entire arsenal; the perfect tone, the solid wood, the Martin build and polish, and an action that has Les Paul-level forgiveness out of the box make it the most valuable. Most importantly, and this is not a small point, the Fishman Analog F1 does exactly what I want it to do: stay out of my way until I need some very minor adjustments. When compared with the "Aura" and others, you've got to ask yourself whether you want a guitar or you want GarageBand inside your guitar. The analog lasts 180 hours (an eternity) compared with 11 hours on other systems, and truly, if you want all the effects of the $2,500 Martin, your absolute best bet is one of TC Electronics' "Hall of Fame" reverb pedals (also at Guitar Center, thankfully). This is the lightest, loudest (for its size and even compared with the aforementioned Martin), best-made, and most comfortable instrument in its class. No guitar is a Swiss Army knife, but this masterpiece comes close to making you wish to use it for absolutely everything. You will appreciate this purchase more than any other.

    Fantastic

    By billy miller

Comments about Martin Performing Artist Series OMCPA4 Orchestra Model Acoustic-Electric Guitar:

I have been looking at omc and ooo size guitars. I'm a little shorter in the arms and my DC 16 was great but just a little uncomfortable to play for long periods of time. I saw the OMPCA4 and really liked the fit. I talked to my guys at my local GC, and we struck a deal. The guys at Webster,TX took great care of me and sent me home with my favorite guitar of all time. It's fast, low action out of the box and has a huge sound. For the price it blows my DC 16 RGTE away. Can't say enough great things about this guitar.

    Better than a Taylor 314ce

    By Stephen Dunleavey

    from Akron, OH

Comments about Martin Performing Artist Series OMCPA4 Orchestra Model Acoustic-Electric Guitar:

I bought this guitar a week ago, and I am blown away by its tonal quality, ease of playability, and plugged-in sound quality. I compared it to the Taylor 314ce, and think that this guitar sounds better than the Taylor...even plugged in, which I was surprised by, given the popularity and high acclaim of their expression system. Fishman hit one out of the park with their new analog electronics. I would describe this guitar as having the clear highs of a Taylor, but adding in the balanced lows of a traditional Martin. Martin must have done some serious research to develop their performing artist neck because it is just as comfortabled to play as a Taylor. Did I mention that it's $400 less than the Taylor 314ce? There are no words that can adequately describe one, you should play one for yourself and see what you think.

Crispy and sweet sound. Very balanced and pleasant.

    By Gab H

Comments about Martin Performing Artist Series OMCPA4 Orchestra Model Acoustic-Electric Guitar:

I started learning guitar last year. My main purpose is to play chords while leading worship with hymns in church. Thank goodness that I made a quick progress! Initially I bought an entry level Yamaha and quickly moved on to a Taylor 114CE. In one occasion, Guitar Center offered an exchange program so I brought my Yamaha for exchange. I initially wanted to buy a Taylor 2- or 3-series since I had getting used to Taylor sound. But then this Martin at the similar price level caught my attention. I bought it just out of my curiosity for a different brand of guitar. I am so happy that I made a right choice! Taylor vs. Martin, in a short word, is the style between California vs. Pennsylvania. Taylor sounds crispier at higher tunes and more bass at lower tunes. But Martin blends a nicer balance together. I totally agree with another reviewer saying that Martin sounds better while playing chords, because it harmoniously blends them. Taylor sounds more like wild wild west, while Martin is an elegant classical northeastern. In my opinion, there is no better or worse here. It really all depends on your personal taste. But one thing that Martin is definitely superior than Taylor is its electric board. At this similar price range, Taylor sounds more electricity, while Martin generates more natural sound from the speakers. Give it a try. You will not disappointed. This is an entry-to-mid level guitar hard to beat.
