Overview

One of Martin's most affordable Performing Artist models, the DCPA5K is available in a dreadnought body size with a solid Sitka spruce top, koa-patterned high pressure laminate back and sides, High Performance Neck and Fishman's F1 Analog electronics.

Fishman's F1 Analog preamp system
The F1 Analog has 2 control knobs and one display. By pressing the volume button down for 2 seconds the tuner is activated. The innovative one-knob tone control lets you choose between a natural, undersaddle sound with no EQ (fully counter-clockwise) on up to a "mid- scooped" tone with emphasized treble & bass and reduced midrange. Pressing the tone knob repearedly cycles through various phase settings that improve bass response while aiming to suppress unwanted feedback. Case sold separately.

    Beautiful instrument, beautiful sound

Comments about Martin Performing Artist Series 2015 DCPA5K Cutaway Dreadnought Acoustic-Electric Guitar:

I got this guitar for my daughter, who's been breaking her heart over her grandmother's old, low-cost guitar--or borrowing a friend's plug-in for gigs. She is thrilled with it: "no buzz!" she said within seconds of picking it up. The neck isn't too big for her small hands. The sound is absolutely gorgeous, rich and smooth, and the guitar is a pleasure to hold and look at.

    Awesome Guitar

    By Craig Tredway

Comments about Martin Performing Artist Series 2015 DCPA5K Cutaway Dreadnought Acoustic-Electric Guitar:

I have had this guitar for 5 days now and my fingers are numb from playing it. I shopped for a long time for the right E/A in my price range ($800 to $1200). I was really looking for an all wood guitar. This guitar has laminate sides and back, a stratabond neck and a Richlite fingerboard. All of these things scared me until I looked in to the companies that provide the products. These are all very strong, well engineered products that are made to last longer and be stronger that natural wood without giving up sound quality. The Richlite fingerboard is one of the smoothest, and easiest that I have ever played. I like it better than the rosewood on my Les Paul. The neck is solid and well engineered. Here in Missouri it was 65 degrees on Saturday afternoon (Late December) and on Sunday morning it was 18 degrees. This is a massive pressure and atmospheric change but on Sunday morning the guitar was still in tune. The neck is solid as a rock, feels great and the finish is perfection. I am in the engineering field and lam-beams have been used for decades now because we ran out of trees to make large structural members out of. Think of this neck as a lam-beam. Better than natural wood. Don't let anyone tell you that this neck is not as good as natural maple or mahogany. In many ways it is far better and will last longer and stay straighter. This is top quality. I suspect that many guitar manufacturers will be using more and more of this technology and I for one welcome it. The jury is still out on the Koa Composite back and sides. They look fantastic, feel solid and the seam to the solid stitka spruce top is flawless. Only time will tell how it will wear under normal use. This guitar is an engineering marvel in my opinion. It is the future. I played $4000.00 Martins and Taylors in the same room at GC and this one sounded just as good and I suspect will be much lower maintenance than it's big brother. This is a great guitar. Not for the money, but period.

    Packs a punch

Comments about Martin Performing Artist Series 2015 DCPA5K Cutaway Dreadnought Acoustic-Electric Guitar:

After going into guitar center for once a week almost for a month and playing this guitar every time I finally was able to get it. I love it. The best way i can describe the way it sounds is "Liquid Dark Chocolate" it is so dark and warm. This guitar is also a lot louder and has a much more full sound than my previous one. Excellent buy for the money.

Comments about Martin Performing Artist Series 2015 DCPA5K Cutaway Dreadnought Acoustic-Electric Guitar:

This guitar is AMAZING! After playing this one I could never justify paying more for a guitar. Right out of the box, after tuning, the action was very low without any hint of fret buzz. The quality of the sound can't be beat. The built-in tuner works great and the guitar stays in tune very well. I would definitely recommend this one to ANYONE looking to purchase a new guitar!

Comments about Martin Performing Artist Series 2015 DCPA5K Cutaway Dreadnought Acoustic-Electric Guitar:

This instrument is just as good, if not better that some others 3 times the price .. It has a very rich tone even without the electric plugged in. It does not look that fancy, but it sure has the great sound and that's the main purpose

The second I picked up this guitar and started playing it I knew it was the one for me. Feels great in your hands and has an amazing martin tone with easy playability. Love the F1 electronics and built in chromatic tuner. I have only been playing for about four months and this guitar is my holy grail!! I do wish they would have used some kind of binding for the top as well as included a case for the guitar. When you are paying that kind of money for a guitar I think a case should be included! Other than that this is an amazing guitar and you will not be disapointed!! BUY ONE!!!

    Great Martin Guitar

    By Daniel Hurley

    from NC

Comments about Martin Performing Artist Series 2015 DCPA5K Cutaway Dreadnought Acoustic-Electric Guitar:

After about 8 years of playing a $175 Ibanez acoustic guitar I finally decided to pull the trigger on this Martin. I spent several months doing research and lots of hours in guitar center playing anything and everything around the $1,000 range. I played the Martin DCPA4 and could not tell a difference in tone/playability versus this one....and it was priced at $450 more. The last two guitars I narrowed it down to were this Martin and the Taylor 214ce that was priced at $999. The Taylor had a very nice neck - almost felt like I was playing my strat - but the entire guitar was laminate (plus I don't particularly love the glossy laminate look). Also the tone of the taylor was not as full, it was more sparkly - almost too much for heavy strumming. I really enjoy the full bodied sound of this Martin - the harder you strum the better it sounds. It has great resonance and range when playing unplugged, and also sounds great plugged in. The F1 fishman analog system looks sleek, and includes the onboard tuner (which the Taylor did not have). The left knob on the F1 is very useful for achieving your desired acoustic tone while plugged in. This guitar is a very beautiful, simple design. I really love the look of the hpl koa and the stratabond. I got this guitar for $150 off purchase price at guitar center's valentines day sale. Also traded in an old 12 string acoustic and was pleased with the amount the gave me for the trade. My cost out of pocket was only about $500..a steal! I would recommend this guitar to anyone who is in the market for a high end acoustic guitar that isn't going to break the bank. I have played the $3k-$4k Taylors and Gibsons, and simply can't fathom paying that much money for a guitar, when there are others that rival the sound/quality....for a fraction of the cost.

Comments about Martin Performing Artist Series 2015 DCPA5K Cutaway Dreadnought Acoustic-Electric Guitar:

(Acoustically) This guitar amazed me in every way possible. I love how I have so much control over the whole mind of the guitar. I can make it bright, and I can make it mellow. It is tonally interchangeable. Why this surprises me is because it has koa wood. Koa wood doesn't usually give a bright or mellow sound at all. But with the Spruce top, it the Spruce will definetely change the sound of anything.

(Electronically)I am totally stunned with this guitar's electronic abilities. It takes the acoustic sound and carries it onto the P/A system, with an even clearer sound. You can hear every single little pick. The Fishman F1 Analog is a bit intimidating, but I watched some videos and it turned out to be super simple to manage.

(Overall) I do use the recommended strings, which are the "Martin SP Lifespan: Light Gauge Phosphor Bronze". If you go on the sweetwater website, they are selling a 1-pack for 10.49 and a 2-pack for 15.99. Obviously, I got the 2-pack. Super super satisfied with the look, sound, and feel of the guitar. Couldn't be any more satisfied. Totally awesome.
