Great guitar!

Comments about Martin Performing Artist Custom JCPA4 Jumbo Acoustic-Electric Guitar:

I purchased this guitar about 3 months ago and I just love it! It's what a Martin should sound like...nice bass yet very balanced and with a full sound. Projects very well especially with a pick, fingerstyle playing sounds great too. Plugged in has great sound. It's heavier than my Taylor 324ce but plays very well with the thinner PA neck, in fact I compared it with the D28 and D41 and it held it's ground and was more comfortable to play. I also love the way rosewood smells.. Yes I strongly recommend this guitar which should be worth much more, two thumbs up for GC on this custom guitar.

Comments about Martin Performing Artist Custom JCPA4 Jumbo Acoustic-Electric Guitar:

I've had my JPCPA4 for a few weeks now. My main acoustic is a koa Taylor GSK but I'm not comfortable gigging it. I bought this as mid level guitar that I'm not afraid to carry around but has decent enough sound to play live gigs. Everyone has pointed out what an amazing guitar it is for the money. In fact, it's an amazing guitar period. Hands down the best purchase I've made.

Great guitar, great price

Comments about Martin Performing Artist Custom JCPA4 Jumbo Acoustic-Electric Guitar:

I have owned this guitar two months and use it to lead worship at church. I fell in love with this guitar while looking for something with a pickup to replace my X-series Martin (another great guitar). The balance of tone impressed me as it was very even across the strings. I wanted something that would give me the same core Martin tone of my X-series, but with the quality of sound that can only come from an all wood instrument and this guitar does that. The build and aesthetics are impeccable and the hardware is very high quality. I never have to tune it unless I travel with it and then the tuning need is ever so slight. The JCPA4 with its Fishman pickup pairs nicely with my Fishman acoustic amp and produces a beautiful clean acoustic sound that I just can't get enough of.

Really Good

By

from Orlando, FL

Comments about Martin Performing Artist Custom JCPA4 Jumbo Acoustic-Electric Guitar:

I have been shopping for an acoustic for several weeks. My budget was $3,000. I played everything that my closest three Guitar Center's had in their acoustic rooms. This guitar was clearly the best for the buck. At the last Guitar Center I went to I compared it to the Taylor 414ce, 416ce, and 816ce. I compared it to the Gibson Songwriter and Hummingbird Pro. I compared it to the Martin GPCPA1 Plus. I think the Taylor electronics sounded better, but acoustically none of the Taylor's compared to anything in the martin performing artist series. This guitar also sounded way better than both Gibson Songwriter and Hummingbird Pro both amp'd and acoustically. My ear couldn't detect a major difference between this guitar and the $3,000 Martin GPCPA1 Plus acoustically. Maybe there was just a little difference, but nothing dramatic. I certainly couldn't say the GPCPA1 sounded "better". The GPCPA1 did have a lot more of a pretty fit and finish. It also had way fancier electronics, but because the acoustics were so similar I saved myself the the extra $1,500 and went with this guitar .and I'm happy and don't worry Guitar Center, I'm sure I'll find something else in your store to blow the $1,500 I saved on!

Excellent

Comments about Martin Performing Artist Custom JCPA4 Jumbo Acoustic-Electric Guitar:

This is the first time I have ever felt compelled to write a review on anything. At 70 years old, I've owned and played a lot of different guitars. Every guitar model and every individual guitar has it's own characteristics both good and not so good. This guitar, as soon as I picked it up at GC and began playing it, it just felt like it was built for me. The feel, the sound, an all around great guitar. I usually play without an amp and am really impressed with the balanced, even amplitude across all the strings. I can get a really nice growl at the low end and an overall sweet rosewood sound all over the neck. While I don't play at the top of the neck that much, I appreciate the cutaway now. The electronics sound great as well. I don't see how you can go wrong with this guitar, especially for the price.

Better than I expected

By

from Clatonia NE

Comments about Martin Performing Artist Custom JCPA4 Jumbo Acoustic-Electric Guitar:

I bought this a couple of week ago at Guitar Center in Omaha. I had gone there to get a d series but when I played this one, it clearly was a better guitar. My other guitar is a Martin D28 I bought new 40 years ago. Believe it or not, this guitar sounds almost as good and it's not even broken in yet! It has that solid pronounced bass that you expect from a rosewood Martin and it's a bit easier to play than the D28. I don't like the plastic covered strings it comes with (I've always thought they dull the sound a little). I usually use Martin FX Custom Lights and I expect this guitar will sound even finer with a new set of these! The electronics sound fine. I don't like the built in tuner because I prefer a tuner with a needle display. The case is nice but it is not a flight case as is the one that came with my D28. I would have preferred a locking latch but the center latch is made to accept a small padlock. All in all, I would say you're getting a D28 sound at about a grand less than a D28 and it has excellent electronics to boot. Get it if you can.

Exhilarating, a real guitar for real players.

By

Comments about Martin Performing Artist Custom JCPA4 Jumbo Acoustic-Electric Guitar:

Being a collector of limited edition and custom guitars, I was astonished to find such a high end guitar at this price. It has replaced all others to become my workhorse and main performance guitar. Not only do I feel much safer going out with this guitar than the pricey, delicate ones in my reserve, but also for its superior tone over the others. Truly a bargain. Very woody tone, which gives way to a very airy and natural sound. When played, the guitar is well-balanced in the sonic spectrum, though I missed some of the boom that I was used to when playing dreadnoughts. This guitar sits well in singer/songwriter situations, and solos really cut the air while bandmates play. When plugged in, I had to play around with EQ as the D string rang and over-dominated the others. Narrowness of neck makes playing easier than my Taylor. Love the ebony fretboard, finish, shape, and sweet smell of rosewood every time I pull it out. Unlike Taylors at this price point, the included hard shell case is a plus. Whenever I showed up with the guitar, I was the envy of all. People somehow formed into lines, as if to line up for a celebrity. Indeed, the guitar brings a celebrity status sound when I played it. Once set up properly by a luthier, fantastic action, notes slide off the ebony, overtones pulsate and ring through the air, inspiration vibrates, and music just flows out without hinderance. Commendations to Martin for an affordable masterpiece.

Martin JCPA4 - Awesome Guitar

By

from Carrollton, TX

Comments about Martin Performing Artist Custom JCPA4 Jumbo Acoustic-Electric Guitar:

I've had this guitar for two months now and I am very, very impressed. I spent considerable amount of time playing various other guitars before deciding on this purchase. What I found was that I could play guitar A, B, C, and D and, altough I was playing around with some really nice guitars with some at a much higher price point, time after time I found myself compelled to come back to pick up this Martin and play it again. I returned to it so often that after a while it was clear that this guitar was going to be my next one and I love it. It plays easy, feels right in my hands, and sounds fantastic. Awesome guitar.

Quality sound packed with value

By

Comments about Martin Performing Artist Custom JCPA4 Jumbo Acoustic-Electric Guitar:

A couple months ago my only guitar, a Seagull Entourage, fell to the ground due to my strap falling off while playing. The top cracked, and even though it was repairable, it didn't sound the same. I also mainly play worship in churches and small coffeehouses, so I needed a solid guitar that I could plug in. While my Seagull was being repaired, I borrowed my friends Taylor 714ce and fell in love with the body style, even though I'm a Martin fan. I looked at the GPCPA4 and didn't like it at all. It didn't project well and didn't have a full tone. I was going to settle for a Taylor 314ce (which I am SO glad I didn't) and then I found this gem. It has the warm, rich Martin tone that I love with the playability of a Taylor. The jumbo cutaway, which is extremely rare for a Martin, projects extremely well and provides raw power. Incredible full, well rounded tone. Sounds awesome plugged in, you just have to play around with the mid scoop and phase control. I literally played every Taylor, Martin, and Gibson in the room and the only guitar that could rival this was a Taylor 816ce, which was over $3,000. Not worth it. Couldn't be happier and haven't been able to put it down since I got it.
