Overview

The 1930s were a particularly unpleasant time for many Americans. A factory worker lucky enough to have a steady job brought home $34 a month. A school teacher saw a respectable $100 a month, while a doctor or lawyer may have brought a staggering $300 home to the family. These were the fortunate ones who could count on something regular each month to keep food on the table and a roof over their heads. Everyone else held on tight and looked for heroes ... on the stage, on the screen, on the radio, anywhere. Heroes were larger than life, and heroes meant hope. Some even said no one would ever be paid more than Babe Ruth in 1930. America needed heroes.

Consider that $20,000 coach-built cars with names like Rolls-Royce, Bugatti, and Duesenberg represented unattainable opulence compared to the average $500 automobile - a luxury in its own right. A movie was a 25-cent escape, a harmonica was $1, and a proper guitar was $8 or $10. If you played guitar in 1930, you may have even heard a fantastic tale about a Martin costing upwards of $225. The OM-45 Deluxe. You only heard about it, but you never saw one because there were just 11 made in 1930. Almost ninety years later, most enthusiasts will never see an original OM-45 Deluxe- there is handful believed remaining in existence today.

The OM-45 Deluxe was royalty among all guitars of the era. Roy Rogers played one - youd be hard pressed to find a bigger hero. He was larger than life to many, and his guitar drove that point home every bit as hard as the Bambino could swing a bat. The OM-45 Deluxe became the stuff of legend for almost every reason imaginable. Most importantly it was rare and it was real and it embodied every singular quality the aficionados now consider to be Martin's "Golden Era". Its the definitive masterpiece ... period.

The 2015 "OM-45 Deluxe Authentic 1930" “ limited to 11 instruments - draws its inspiration and exacting specifications from the 1930 OM-45 Deluxe acquired at the Guernseys Instrument Auction in April 2014. Its Serial#44999. Its real and its on display today as a masterpiece among the C.F. Martin & Co Museum Collection in Nazareth, Pennsylvania. This careful recreation faithfully employs the most traditional construction techniques and materials available today with specifications rivalling the original from 1930. This instrument also benefits from Martins Authentic V.T.S. top and bracing; the heavily researched advanced aging process that most accurately reproduces the visual character - and most importantly - the sonic performance of the coveted 20's and 30's instruments.

A lucky few owners around the world will experience this remarkable instrument. Sadly, and once again, most enthusiasts will never see an original 2015 OM-45 Deluxe Authentic 1930 - there is only a handful in existence today. Theyre rare and theyre real and they embody the finest qualities and timeless traditions of the luthiers' craft. The Martin tradition since 1833.

I was looking for a good 'budget' guitar for practice. What can I say, this guitar just surpassed my expectations. The price looked very affordable to begin with. I also had a $15 discount coupon sitting around that I was able to use on this product. The dealers were kind enough to offer me a set of picks for free (Can you believe it ??!!), which just made this whole deal an incredible value. The only con was that there was a slight buzzing on the high E string which they gladly fixed for an extra $20. Overall, I got this guitar for the price it was valued at (including the extra picks). I will definitely buy again when my 401K matures.

[Update #1] - I just realized that this is not a guitar from 1930, rather a recreation of a 1930 model guitar. Why they would do that? I don't know. Still a great guitar!

[Update #2] - I just noticed the description of the product. It talks a lot about the depression era and how Americans couldn't afford to eat. I now feel bad for having spent the money I had set aside for my kids college tuition on this guitar. I'm only removing 1 star from my earlier review since I shouldn't blame the guitar for my decision.

Comments about Martin OM-45 Deluxe Authentic 1930 VTS Acoustic Guitar:

I just started playing guitar less than a month ago, and that's all I've been doing ever since. My first guitar was this "Brownie" Stratocaster that was supposedly owned by this Eric Clapton guy or whatever. Anyway, After playing the guitar for a while, I decided that playing electric guitar doesn't fit me, the stratocaster didn't even work, it wasn't even loud like other guitars. There was also a strange metal hole on the bottom of the side of the body. I ended up selling it to this guy for around $75-80, since it looked a bit worn out and used. The buyer seemed pretty excited, but he's going to be pretty disappointed. I went onto this website and came across this lovely guitar. Now, $79,999 may be a tiny bit over my original budget, but since I had quite the amount of experience by then (about 25 days), I felt like I deserved this guitar. I was absolutely right. Worth every penny. It is an amazing guitar, it can be used anywhere, for anything. From playing "Wonderwall" to scraping off gum from my flip flops, this is truly the swiss army knife of guitars. Another great perk is that it came in a box, which is convenient because I now sleep in that very same box. Overall, this is a great guitar for everyday practical use, and is very durable.

The wood used for the top is too soft. My titanium pick tears holes into it. Now it looks like Willie Nelson's Martin.

It's OK, but I still prefer my Samrick D1.

Comments about Martin OM-45 Deluxe Authentic 1930 VTS Acoustic Guitar:

The transient tones generated by this instrument have a uniqueness that are very difficult to describe. Words that come to mind are warm, lush, mellow, and juicy. It lacks the harshness that many of my other guitars portray. A colleague of mine has the 1920 version with the double knock un-tapered headstock and the burly Brazilian inlays, and I have to say that this model is definitely an improvement in terms of looks, playability and tonal quality.

Comments about Martin OM-45 Deluxe Authentic 1930 VTS Acoustic Guitar:

This guitar makes me and everyone within a mile cry every time I strum a tune. I can play anything from Mary Had a Little Lamb to Whole Lotta Rosie and people literally weep and sob buckets. The inflection and tonality that screams out of this puppy is simply astounding. It's like Jello and butter rolled into one. I'm crying thinking about it.

The 24k solid gold case that came with it resembles King Tut's tomb. It adds quite a bit of weight, but it looks amazing when I show up for a gig at the local coffee shop. It really turns heads and gets the audience juices flowing if you know what I mean.

          Pros:
          Change back from your 80G.
If I'm ever in an argument with my wife, I pick this up and start playing. I'd rather hear her cry.
          24k Solid Gold case.

          Cons:
Wish it was $10 cheaper so I could have stopped at McDonalds for a couple McRibs on the way home and make everybody cry there.
The case is a little over the top in terms of thickness and weight. Could be a gauge or two thinner and still have the same "Wow" affect.

Comments about Martin OM-45 Deluxe Authentic 1930 VTS Acoustic Guitar:

I bought this guitar to use for one of those cool pinterest shelves, you just cut off the top with a jigsaw and then cut some slots along the body for shelves... the problem was the new V.T.S. bracing basically made cutting into the body impossible without shattering it. My original 1930 Martin OM-45 Deluxe that my great grandpa passed down didn't have that, so it made a great shelf, but as usual these recreations are never quite the quality of the originals. I tried to return it, but the GC Warranty didn't cover accidental damage. Don't buy this one, find one of the originals - there is no substitute for quality.

"Happy Trails", as they are leaving. Just like dear old Dad did, back in the depression in the 30's.
Gotta go now, kinda getting choked up.
