Overview

Gauges 11.5-14-23-28-38-47.

If it's one thing Martin knows, it's finely crafted and vintage instruments. Martin created their Marquis line to pamper your guitar by adding a soft thread wrap at the ball ends which prevent wear and tear on the bridge and end plate as you play. This thread wrap puts a comforting layer of protection in place every time you change your strings.

I just purchased a used Gibson Blues King on ebay - I excitedly opened it up, but was thoroughly disappointed in the sound. I wanted to turn around and sell it. Fortunately, I ran it up to Guitar Center and had their tech check it out and re-string it, set it up, etc. He recommended these strings and I took his advice. It is now perfect - these strings have got absolutely great tone and now the guitar sounds killer. I had no idea that strings could make that much of a difference. Yes, they are easy on your fingers and all that, but the tone is what is amazing.

After only using these for 5 days, the first E string broke after adjusting it just a bit! I HAD to adjust it! The constant buzzing and twanging was driving me crazy! I had to adjust them at least once,( if not twice),during daily practice. Not sure what was going on. Not sure if it was a manufacturing defect or not,but they are the only strings that broke that quickly! When they are in tune,it does have nice sound. But, loses tune pretty quickly and then need to re-tune. Naturally, can't return which kinda makes it difficult to feel positive about Guitar Center. They are very helpful, but really wish this hasn't have happened.

Simply the Best Strings in the World

By Alan Lebov

from Denver Colorado

Comments about Martin M1400 Marquis Silk and Steel Custom Acoustic Guitar Strings:

I've been playing acoustic guitar professionally for nearly 30 years and have tried nearly every string out there. Nothing compares to the warmth, sweetness, chime, and ease of play of these strings. Unlike Elixirs which are eardrum piercingly bright when new, these strings sounds broken in right out of the package and are very even from bass to treble. And they last and last. Just wonderful. You must try these!

Comments about Martin M1400 Marquis Silk and Steel Custom Acoustic Guitar Strings:

I play outside venues in south Florida on the treasure coast.. So humidity is factor. These strings are actually wrapped in silver. Silver does not rust and due to its mass 11.5 sound like 12 or 13s. Also no more stinky strings from phosphor and sweat. Silver does not rust and kills germs. They play smooth like a coated string but are only $7.. If you own a Taylor these add some bottom end also.. I own a Martin dcpa1 and they make her growl with every note... I use these string exclusively now... 3 or 4 shows week they are the only strings I trust...... Also the silk wrapped ends protect you peg holes from strings acting like a file on your wood.... The best

Great strings! Good beginner strings because they are easier on the fingers than straight steel strings.

Comments about Martin M1400 Marquis Silk and Steel Custom Acoustic Guitar Strings:

Recently purchased a Seagull Artist Mosaic acoustic guitar, and the strings that came on it were brutal on my fingers! The sixth string made me think of a piano wire, in terms of thickness! It was so thick, that it was popping out the bridge peg. These were not helping my new-to-steel-string left hand fingers! I asked one of the techs at the Asheville, NC, store, and she recommended these. I found them extremely easy to put on the guitar, myself, and am very pleased with the major improvement in tone and ease of fingering! The price is extremely reasonable, too! I have no desire to try any other strings for my guitar, as I like them a great deal!

Maybe nice but made my Sigma Martin buzz

            By CHRISTOPHER PRESNELL

            from Fort Myers, FL

Comments about Martin M1400 Marquis Silk and Steel Custom Acoustic Guitar Strings:

I had such high hopes for these strings. I wanted to try something other than Elixer Nanoweb Lights and these strings do sound bright which is what I was looking for BUT they also buzz all over the place. Seemed like my Sigma Martin would need a whole different setup for these to work. Seemed to be worse on chords than on single notes. Maybe sympathetic resonance between the strings were making them buzz, I don't know. It made me very dissapointed in my guitar. I had to keep telling myself, it was fine before I changed strings. Perhaps they are just too thin. I've only had them on for an hour and I'm ready to remove them, take the loss and throw them in the garbage. Either that or throw my trusty Sigma Martin in the trash. They would not buzz as much if I played really softly and strenuously manhandled the fretboard at the same time. Pushing down on the fretboard that hard makes the fretted strings go sharp so that's no answer. Maybe if the action on my guitar were to be reset to be a mile high, these might be really nice strings but to put it simply, fudge that!!! Also picked up a set of Ernie Ball 2156 and a set of D'Addarios but they were the wrong kind. The salesman gave me 12 string D'Addarios instead of 6 so they'll have to go back tomorrow. I'll try the Ernie Balls tomorrow (or maybe tonight if I feel like changing the whole set AGAIN). AARRGG!!!
