My experience with Martin as a company

By Mike Buzzie

from White Rock , BC

Comments about Martin JC-16RE Aura Acoustic-Electric Guitar:

Year 1 the Guitar was awesome .. but I never used the electrics ۡ_ I play at home and write songs for myself .. Year 2 warranty is now over ۡ_ I start to use the electrics as soon as I plug it in it would kill the battery by the next morning .. did I unplug the cord yes same result . I notice a crack on the back dead center starting from the base travelling up about 6 inches. Then the guitar starts buzzing . So I take it to where I bought it ۡ_ they were awesome by the way . They called the rep and he came down . We sent it to their repair guy 2-3 weeks later no answer ۡ_ so I called them .. he said everything is out of warranty so he didnۡt do anything including not calling me and telling me. Didnۡt get a warm fuzzy feeling. Martin doesnۡt warranty Cracks no matter how they occur, so the rep told me. The electric were of course out of warranty .. but my dealer sent it to their guy to see what was wrong ۡ_ apparently it was wired wrong so he fixed it and charged me for the repair ۡ_ my dealer paid for it( that was very nice of them ) as for Martin all I got was attitude !!! As for the buzzing the first 7 frets are warn flat in only 2 years could you imagine if I played professional .. I would have to have 2 of them just to be able to play one. I am very disappointed I have many other guitars and never had this issue like this with them. This is my l first and last Martin. Very disappointed in their service and lack of customer service. If you by a Martin from my experience they do not back there products. Too bad.

Stunning

By Dwayne Stearns

Comments about Martin JC-16RE Aura Acoustic-Electric Guitar:

I went in prepared to buy, and to spend more money than this. Played everything in the $1k to $3k range and the Martin was the one that I couldn't put down. The guitar simply sounds and feels like "coming home". The pleasant, room-filling tone has that special something that sets it apart. Get one before Martin realizes that they've under priced these things...

Dream a jumbo dream of JC...

By Danny S. Lundmark

from Malibu, CA

Comments about Martin JC-16RE Aura Acoustic-Electric Guitar:

I bought this guitar one week ago. I had tried out several different models of Martins and Taylors, but I hadn't found anything that clicked with me. Sure, some fantastic guitars, but not "the one". Until I found this baby. Unplugged, incredible big sound right off the bat. Warm bass, shining trebles. Perfect action and playability. Very comfortable body that fit perfectly beneath my arm, even though it's a jumbo size and I'm a relatively small person. Wonderful for both fingers and picks, although I prefer fingerstyle myself. Extremely responsive, and balanced tone. Plugged in, the Aura system blew away the Taylor's Expression System, or ES. A HUGE range of tones for the guitar, and a variety of ways to manipulate the sound. A true tone-lover's heaven. And that's not even including the Blend knob... The guitar is perfectly balanced between the acoustic sound and its electronic replication. In terms of aestetics, the guitar is absolutely beautiful in a simple and elegant manner. No over-the-top adornments, just plain gorgeous Sitka Spruce top with East Indian Rosewood back/sides, and perfect little inlays on the neck topped off with a beautiful rosette. I had to fly with the guitar, unfortunately, and I feared that the plane would alter it somehow. Indeed it did, ever so slightly; I now need to adjust the truss rod slightly to regain the pre-flight settings. I am already treating this guitar like a baby- I want to see it grow into a strong, healthy "adult". Trust me, I already am, and will always be, very over-protective about this guitar. I'm ready to safeguard this gem against humidity, temperature fluctuations, and untrustworthy people. I am a Martin fan for life now, and have been charged with caring for a true winner. Who needs a girlfriend, wife, or kids (or all 3) when you have a Martin JC 16RE Aura? Just kidding, but you get my point...

Great tone and Good neck action

By Brian

from Athens, Ga

Comments about Martin JC-16RE Aura Acoustic-Electric Guitar:

Spent a while at GC playing alot of the different acoustics. Liked the Taylors and Gibsons and some of the Breedlove were nice too. But always found myself going back to this Martin. It seems like some guitars have a sound and feel that connects when you play...if you know what I mean...this one did. Have not had a chance to play it out yet, plugged in but I dont think there will be any disappointments. I have J-40 that I got in 1993,it ahs only improved with time...I think this will as well.

Comments about Martin JC-16RE Aura Acoustic-Electric Guitar:

iv been eying a Taylor 914ce (Prejudice against Martin for some reason) for quite a while now. i picked this guitar up today to see if my dislike was reasonable, but i was BLOWN AWAY by its amazing tone ratio. Deep, yet bright. very hard to find such a beautiful guitar, in tone AND looks. getting this week. The Taylor can wait.

Superb

By Matt McKenzie

from Lubbock, TX

Comments about Martin JC-16RE Aura Acoustic-Electric Guitar:

This instrument caught me completely off guard. I had been eyeballing the Martin DC - 16OGTE for months trying to figure out how I was going to pay for it and I picked this one up by mistake. The next thing I knew I was at the check-out counter deciding I would just have worry about the money later. The tone and fullness of this guitar is superior to every Martin I've played. With a rich low register and a clean crisp high this guitar has become the hallmark of the guitar sound I've been looking for. The electronics are fantastic. With all of the rhythmic sounds most on board electronics miss the Aura system makes you think you're playing into a live mic. If this isn't enough, this guitar is simply stunning to look at. The dark Rosewood back and sides really set off the Boltaron. This guitar feels smaller than a jumbo 16 too. The slim waist gives the guitar a very comfortable feel without giving up that beautiful full jumbo 16 sound. I recommend this guitar to anyone looking for something they just won't be able to put down.

You'll be glad you got it

By Sal

from Knoxville, Tennessee

Comments about Martin JC-16RE Aura Acoustic-Electric Guitar:

This guitar has amazing warm tone and deep bass. In combination with the ringing high strings, this guitar just sound beautiful. The photo does not give it justice. The finish is beautiful and the character of the rosewood and spruce are wonderful. plugged in it sounds great with the versatility of the aura system. I would have given her 5 stars, but there was some time needed for just the right set up. Needed some tweeking after factory set up.

An Overlooked Gem

By Jeff H

from Lancaster, PA

Comments about Martin JC-16RE Aura Acoustic-Electric Guitar:

Few people know what this guitar is when you mention it. It is a wonderful all around guitar for most styles of play. I have a Taylor 410CE and needed a guitar for fingerstyle that was bigger than my Martin OM but not as big as the Taylor. This is not really a jumbo sized guitar, although it does have a 16 inch lower bout. The narrow waist makes it very comfortable on your thigh. It is more like and auditorium sized body such as the Taylor 814 series in size although with fewer appointments. The unplugged sound is far superior to the Taylor, both when fingerpicking and when strumming moderately. It doesn't seem to respond well to heavy strumming. The Taylor takes heavy strumming much better. The Aura Onboard electronics are fantastic. I have found that using voice 2 or 4 with a 50/50 blend with the matrix pickup gives the best sound through both my Genz Benz Shen 60 and through our church PA. It sounds much better than any pickup system that I have ever used. The onboard tuner is convenient. It mutes the output when tuning, so in a live setting this is great. The neck is very similar to the Taylor neck which I find very comfortable. String spacing is wide enough for fingerstyle and single note runs with a pick. It would be nice if they had an upgraded version of this with the series 42 appointments, such as neck binding and more inlay, but then I wouldn't have been able to afford it.
