This is a great guitar and I have not found a better one in this price range. It is very easy to play due to its close action. It has a problem in the heat though - when the ambient temperature gets into the 90's the fretboard and neck expand at different rates causing the neck to bow and the high strings touch the frets. (Only a problem for one week in the summer).

I bought a Martin, had it three months sounds great I was sitting down went to put the guitar in the stand it slipped out of my hand 6 inches from the floor and the body just came undone. The whole back seperated from the body. Very disappointing thought "Martin" was "the" guitar. I guess you truly get what you pay for

Great Guitar for the price

By Samuel J.

Comments about Martin DCX1E Acoustic-Electric Guitar:

By far the best tone out there for 700$ And with electronics!! Solid construction, great craftmaship. It also sound great plugged in, I cant wait to start doing shows with it. Also its start sounding better with age. At this price range for this you cant find any thing better. Taylor 110E is close but in my opion is too bright and not enoug bottom end like the Martin. Plus martin has 3 channel EQ vs. 2 for taylor.

A great buy!

By Sarah

from Cardiff by the Sea, CA

Comments about Martin DCX1E Acoustic-Electric Guitar:

As a Taylor enthusiast, it was difficult to even consider purchasing a Martin guitar. However, this model has an exceptionally bright sound, which makes it a great pick for folk and acoustic music. It's also a very versatile instrument, since it has a built-in pickup and can be plugged into most amps. It sounds wonderful both plugged in and unplugged. Don't let the price tag fool you, it's a pretty good value for a high-quality acoustic-electric guitar. The laminate back, aside from making it feel a little more durable, makes it a much more affordable model. I would fully recommend this guitar.

My favorite guitar!

By KJP

Comments about Martin DCX1E Acoustic-Electric Guitar:

I purchased this guitar 9 months ago. I own two others and never play them. This one gets all my attention. I adjusted the action; but that's a personal choice. I had to adjust the truss rod because the neck bowed a bit this winter; but that is expected too. This guitar has a nice warm tone, it keeps its tune very well, it plays easily, and gets a lot of looks too! I tried out a number of other guitars in this one's price range and always came back to the Martin. You won't regret the purchase.

Amazing guitar

By MarkRosenberg

Comments about Martin DCX1E Acoustic-Electric Guitar:

This guitar is incredible. Everything about it is fresh. You take it out of its case and you can smell the real wood. You play the guitar and you can hear how natural it is. The tone is amazing. One strum can fill the room. It also works perfectly with any condenser microphone to create an incredible quality recording. If you're considering buying this guitar, GET IT!

An Excellent Bang for the Buck

By Dan

from California

Comments about Martin DCX1E Acoustic-Electric Guitar:

I play guitar (and bass occassionally) for my church every Sunday. The church needed a new guitar, so they picked up one of these. I've played it quite a bit over the last few months, I and must say it is a superb instrument. My friend has an older Martin (it's been valued in the thousands of dollars), and while this can't match the tone, it gets close for a fraction of the price. The low action means it is easy to play quickly and accurately, though I have to wonder how sensitive such a low setting is going to be in the long run to fluctuations in neck shape due to temp, humidity, etc. So far no issues in that regard. The electronics are about as good as you can expect in this price bracket, and we have had no problems with them so far. Onboard 3-band EQ is handy when the soundboard folks just don't seem to 'get it'. Overall, I give this 5 stars if one includes value in the rating, not just tone.

Ahh...Martin

By brlrs

from Kent, OH

Comments about Martin DCX1E Acoustic-Electric Guitar:

When you buy a Martin you are buying a tone. The famous Martin tone used to be out of reach to those of us who couldnt sacrifce a whole month's paycheck for an instrument. For this reason, it is hard to anticipate what a $700 Martin will bring to the table, so to speak. Rest assured, that with the DXCX 1E, your money buys you every bit of the tone that you could expect. Clear highs, deep and resonant lows, and everything in between are what $700 will buy. This is an excellent instrument for those who want to get started on the local music scene, but dont have a small fortune set aside. The HPL sides, which are not solid tone wood, but instead compressed wood fibers, tend to throw some people off from buyin this particular guitar. In fact, HPL saves a lot of money and does not take away from this fine instrument's tone at all. This guitar is not as loud un-amplified as it could be, but the Fishman electronics more that make up for that if you are willing to go electric-acoustic.I really like this Martin and when you play it, you can simply feel that it is a quality intrument that is going to last and grow with you as a musician.

Love the Martin!

By JDB

from Parsippany, NJ

Comments about Martin DCX1E Acoustic-Electric Guitar:

My first Martin and I am very pleased. I took a few months shopping aroound for a new guitar and I chose the Martin for its bright sound, good feel, and ease to play. I used it last week at an accoustic gig playing along side my friend with his Gibson and the Martin held its own and then some. I love the onboard tuner. Sound is great unplugged and even better plugged in. Consider this guitar if you dont want to spend more than an arm and a leg. Its a great guitar for the price!

Plug her in and watch everyone drool

By Glen

Comments about Martin DCX1E Acoustic-Electric Guitar:

Few guitars tell you they are special when you first touch them. This is one of those few. Solid sound unplugged and oh so sweet when you plug her in. Nice electronics with an on-board tuner make this one sweet work of art. Thank you Martin for making a guitar the working musician can afford.
