This is a great guitar and I have not found a better one in this price range. It is very easy to play due to its close action. It has a problem in the heat though - when the ambient temperature gets into the 90's the fretboard and neck expand at different rates causing the neck to bow and the high strings touch the frets. (Only a problem for one week in the summer).

A huge WOW!!!

By Bill Mogolov

from Des Moines, Iowa

When I was looking for a nice acoustic electric, I had pretty much made my mind up on an Ibanez. But them there it was, displayed on the wall...a Martin DCX1E. I picked it up, plugged it in and was totally blown away by the sound and playability. This is without a doubt the best sounding accoustic electric guitar I have ever heard. It runs circles around the many other ones I've played. Although its really a great value for what it cost, for some it may be a bit on the expensive side. If you can afford it, you will not regret it!

Excellent guitar!

By William Goley

from Mississippi

I have several guitars, and bought this one primarily to play in a worship band at a huge church. Wanted something that had good sound on stage (Fishman = no brainer) and could hang with all the Taylors being played up there. I played everything in the store over several days, and this sounded as good if not better than the $1k-plus Taylors/Martins I tried out. The solid, unfinished top on this things sounds gorgeous. I couldn't care less if the back/sides are laminate. The bottom end is deep and throaty, and it rings out beautifully during quiet worship songs. The built in chromatic tuner could be a little better, so I still use a Boss pedal tuner, but that's the only semi-negative thing I can say. Buy this and I guarantee you won't be disappointed.

Simply Put, AMAZING

By Jeremy

from Columbus, OH

Features: +10... Martin didn't hold anything back with this guitar. Solid spruce top, HPL sides (which feel/sound amazing), and the electronics all together bring an amazing guitar with a price set for evryone. Quality: +10... This guitar doesn't feel like a sub-$1000 guitar. If you hold this up against a lower-end Gibby, your going to have a really rough time finding any difference. Look & Feel: +10... Awesome! The HPL sides feel a little (and I mean VERY little) cheap but sound awesome. Martin Killed this baby.

Excellent

By Grif

from Louisville KY

This was my second guitar, and I'd had the Martin brand recommended by several people to me. But wanting to be open to possibilities, I went to a Guitar Center to see what I could see in the $500-$1000 range. I played several Martins, Breedloves, and Taylors, and this one just stuck out at me most. A few of the taylors came close, but they were brighter and couldn't match the kind of depth I get from this guitar. It's got an excellent neck shape and feel, and no gloss finish anywhere, which really appeals to me. I even tried some $2000 Gibsons just for fun and I still preferred this. But I'll tell you one thing: My Ibanez AEG doesn't get played much anymore.

A KEEPER !!

By Henry Fisher

from Sibley

Have been playing guitar for 40+ years, by far the best guitar I have ever played. Do I like guitars? Still have my original Ventura Model V25 SN 64423 acoustic; just had it refurbished so others in the family can play and enjoy it. What do I like about my Martin: after playing every guitar on the market, there is none that sounds or plays as good by itself or with an amp. Sounds even better with a set of D'Addario EXP11 light strings on it, deep, bright, projecting tone. Best overall tone quality I have heard come out of any guitar period.

Plug her in and watch everyone drool

By Glen

from Naples, Fl

Few guitars tell you they are special when you first touch them. This is one of those few. Solid sound unplugged and oh so sweet when you plug her in. Nice electronics with an on-board tuner make this one sweet work of art. Thank you Martin for making a guitar the working musician can afford.

Best sounding acoustic guitar for the price

By Sean Regan

from Sydney, Australia NSW

I have been searching for a good lower priced acoustic guitar for the past 6 months and I have to say the Martin DCX1E is the best sounding guitar in its range. I spent about 2-3hours in the guitar center playing everything in the $500-$1000 price range. The tone is fantastic, a great balance between the full low bottom end to the crisp top end. The DCX1E has a really full sound. I would say it was not the best playing guitar in the range, action a little higher than I like but the neck shape is really good. A reasonable compromise between sound and setup. Wood finish is plane but nice. A little annoying thing I found was is the tuner box un-clips down into the body of the guitar when I would travel. I have to loosen off the strings and put my had in the body and push it back out from time to time. Overall a great guitar.

Surprised

By Dick Miles

from Lancaster, NY

I had an inexpensive acoustic-electric that I wanted to upgrade so I went to my local GC to browse. I had heard of Martin's move to laminated materials and thought "there goes the neighborhood" until I played one. It had surprisingly nice sound (bright highs and mellow lows). Just for grins, I compared it with a Taylor of the same price. The sound was there on both guitars but the Taylor electronics consisted of volume, treble, and bass. No onboard tuner, no nothing. I gave the DCX1E four stars because the factory set-up was lousy and I would have liked binding around the top. Other than that, this is a an opportunity to won a great guitar without breaking the bank.

Incredible tone from so little wood...

By Darrel Miller

from Glendale, AZ

I was totally blown out by the tone of this instrument. I like a full sound with a nice healthy low end. I play a hand built custom that is similar to a Martin HD-28. I compared the DCX1E to other intruments in the price range, Epiphone, Epiphone Master-built, Breedlove, Yamaha, etc. Only the Yamaha solid top even came close to the same tone quality. Then I began to compare it to other higher priced acoustics and was surprised to find that is was tonally comparable to the high end Gibson and Martin's ($2,000+). This is one sweet axe. I bought one as a special gift for my teen age son. He loves it too.
