    Comments about Martin Custom X Series 2015 X1-D12E Dreadnought 12-String Acoustic-Electric:

It's not unusual for my buddy and I to take a break from our jam sessions and visit the local GC. I always head for the acoustic room first and this day was no different. After playing around with Ovations and Fenders, I grabbed the Martin 12-string. As I played it, I felt like I was being transported. When I stopped, I literally had tears rolling down my face. My husband had the day off and had tagged along, and he was speechless which is unusual for him. =) I thought I was going crazy. In all the years of playing, 40+, and having owned a couple of 12-strings, I had never played a guitar that felt as good, sounded as good, and caused me to have such a physical reaction to the sound. Sounds crazy, right? I don't have to speak about the qualities of a Martin. That definitively goes without saying, and this guitar is a great example of why Martin is tops. For anyone thinking about purchasing a 12-string, don't buy anything until you try this guitar. I'm not an amp person but I plugged it in a few days after I purchased it and I started crying all over again. This guitar is amazing!

I wouldn't buy this again because I already bought two :)

    Comments about Custom X Series 2015 X1-D12E Dreadnought 12-String Acoustic-Electric:

If nothing else just buy it to play the instrumental "Hope" from RUSH. This guitar is exceptional. I considered buying Taylor 12 string (150E model) but Martin won when it came to strumming in terms of sound and feel; so I got this one.
Anyhow, I bought two of these. I keep one in standard tuning (half step down though not necessary per Martin) and the other in alternative tuning.

    Best 12 String

    By Michael

    from Springfield, MO

    Comments about Martin Custom X Series 2015 X1-D12E Dreadnought 12-String Acoustic-Electric:

I bought this in my local Guitar Center a few weeks ago. I tried out a bunch of others before buying this one from Breedlove to Fender to Dean. Nothing compares to the rich sound and ease of play that the Martin has. Just listening to some of the videos online of the Taylor told me that I didn't even need to try one of them. I've got a Martin D1 six-string so I'm definitely partial to the rich punch they put out. And when you're playing with 12 strings, something that sounds thin or shrill is usually way too much like that. But this Martin has that rich bass punch that keeps the sound full. You hear all the strings all the tones, not just the high ones. If you want a 12 string don't settle for the cheap end, you won't be satisfied. And I suppose I should make some comment about the materials in this guitar. No it isn't all "real" wood. And the neck is one of those multiple laminated necks. But the workmanship is top notch and the spruce top is really what makes the sound. So, bottom line, in my opinion, taking into account the price and the performance, this is the best 12 string out there.

    Comments about Martin Custom X Series 2015 X1-D12E Dreadnought 12-String Acoustic-Electric:

I received this guitar yesterday as a gift. It is perfect. It sounds great whether it is played with or without an amp. It is easy to play and the action is as good or better than any other 12 string I have played. I love everything about it.

Great sound for a modest price.

    Comments about Martin Custom X Series 2015 X1-D12E Dreadnought 12-String Acoustic-Electric:

I stopped in Guitar Center in Mesa, AZ to check out the acoustic room. Someone was playing the Martin X1-D12E and I was impressed by the tone so I just asked him if I could listen to him play for a while. It didn't take me long to buy one. I play a lot of Beatles and Eagles and had thought of getting a 12 string, just didn't want to invest a bunch as I also play a J-35 Gibson and Les Paul. My main concerns from listening to other 12 players was the 12 strings going out of tune easily. My experience after 3 weeks playing it almost every day is very different. I can leave it in the case for a couple days, pick it back up and it requires very little attention, most strings stay perfectly in tune. I suspect the laminated neck has a lot to do with that. The neck is a little larger than my J-35 but not dramatically so. I plan on playing it for a while and possibly stepping up to a higher quality Martin in the future.

    Great 12 string

    By Tina Elkins

    from Cleveland, OH

    Comments about Martin Custom X Series 2015 X1-D12E Dreadnought 12-String Acoustic-Electric:

I don't think you can beat this guitar at this or even higher price points. Don't be freaked at the HPL sides and back- honestly it sounds fabulous as many other people have attested to. The solid wood top gives it a rich warm sound, and the HPL is a great resonant material. I think the hi-tech laminate body and stratabond neck are a big advantage for a 12 string- with the added tension from the strings I think this build is extra stable. (I live in an area of wildly fluctuating humidity over the year and have already had a guitar neck warp due to that.) In particular I love the neck- because of the laminate build, Martin is able to make it thinner and more comfortable than many other 12 strings- especially for my fairly small-sized hands. It also has a wonderful very "Martin-sounding" 12 string jangle; combined with typically excellent Martin craftsmanship and stability of materials, this is a terrific guitar value. (bought mine used from GC- perfect shape, even better price)

4.5 Stars but with an aside

    By kevin rygg

    Comments about Martin Custom X Series 2015 X1-D12E Dreadnought 12-String Acoustic-Electric:

Sounds wonderful, and I should have upgraded to the finished version (still not sure why the "custom" version is the lower-end one.) My complaint is that the composite neck doesn't seem appropriate for alternate tunnings (which is what I bought this for). I set this up in DbGbBGbBDb and got a lot of buzz because the action is so low. I tried other stuff but didn't want to bow the body. I would like to have the flexibility to do more than just "hum and strum" around a campfire. Anyway, it sounds great and you will absolutely love it if you keep it in standard tuning. The "made in mexico" part only bothers me to the extent that anyone who has ever been without a job for longer than they expected would like to believe that America can still provide a competitive product for a fair price. I would have paid a little extra to avoid the international race toward shared poverty.

    Favorite Guitar I Own

    By Aaron Hayes

    from Cleveland, Tennessee

    Comments about Martin Custom X Series 2015 X1-D12E Dreadnought 12-String Acoustic-Electric:

This is one of the best guitars you could ever get. Ever since I got in to The Beatles, I've been dying for a twelve string. This one is perfect for what I was looking for. The action is great, when you're picking it feels like a six string (unlike the Mitchell one I tried), and it's a beautiful guitar. When I was looking at buying it, I had played three different guitars but this same model. All of them were exactly the same: perfect. I had actually played a Taylor twelve string right after I had played this one (which cost $1,700) and I still liked the Martin better. I actually like the finish better even though that's apparently what brings the price down. You're gonna love it when you come home from a long day, step into your room and see this thing.

    Outstanding!

    By thomas benson

    Comments about Martin Custom X Series 2015 X1-D12E Dreadnought 12-String Acoustic-Electric:

I purchased the guitar less than a month ago, and since I received it two (one man and one girl) have commented about it in such positive ways. No negatives at all! The man has played guitar for 45 years and he was greatly impressed with the fine workmanship, rich sound and ease of playing. The woman is an 18 year old who has been playing for 10 years. (She is an amazing guitar player too ). She loved it! She said that many 12 strings have such deep necks which caused her some difficulty playing, and they always seemed to sound tinny but this was very rich sounding, and she loved the ease of playing for her size of hand! She is the person for whom I purchased it as a gift! Martin, thank you for making such a fine instrument and selling it at an affordable price! Love it!

    Try more than one

    By Ailean Mac Andaroch

    from New Britain, CT

    Comments about Martin Custom X Series 2015 X1-D12E Dreadnought 12-String Acoustic-Electric:

I have been playing 12 string guitars since 1966 and owned several over the years. When it was time for a new one again I went looking at everything they had in two Guitar Center stores. I tried the Taylors - no bass. I tried a couple others - no treble. I tried one of these Martins at one store and it sounded "mushy," so when I saw it also at another GC store I was passing it up and tried other things there. That would have been a mistake! Just for laughs, I tried it again. This same model had all the clarity and 12 string sound as some of my very best costing 4-5 times as much. The action and everything about it just fit right. I know this is the bottom line Martin, but try one - or better a couple of them as there seems to be variations in them and at least one of them was GREAT (but it's mine!).
