This "00" 12-fret guitar boasts solid cocobolo sides, back and headplate, a solid sitka spruce top, gorgeous "42" style appointments, and is inspired by the 00-45SC built in collaboration with John Mayer in 2012. The "SC" stands for stagecoach, harkening back to an era when guitars were taken on trains, wagons, and horses for bringing people together in song. Other accouterments include grained ivoroid binding on the endpiece, solid black ebony pyramid with drop-in saddle bridge, Waverly brass open-geared with small ivoroid button tuning machines, a Delmar tortoise color pickguard, and a polished gloss finish. The interior label is signed by the Grammy Award-winning artist. Comes with a custom case.

Comments about Martin Custom Signature Edition 00-42SC John Mayer Grand Concert Acoustic Guitar:
I purchased my first Martin in 1970. It was a "Custom Shop" (before there was a "Custom Shop") "SD28S" (D-28 body w/a wide 14 fret slot head neck), and I have over 30 acoustics (Ehlers, Lowden, Larrivee and various resonators), 15 of which are Martins. The majority of the Martins are Custom Shop Limited or Special Editions, and all of them are great guitars. Since my principle interest is OOO and OO 12 fret slot heads, I was certainly intrigued by the Mayer OO42 when it was announced at winter NAMM earlier this year. But it was a very expensive guitar, and I was leary of spending an extra 2 or 3K just for Mayer's name on the label. I have bought a lot of my Martins (10 so far) from the Platinum Manager at the Boston (Braintree) MA GC store (a great guy and straight shooter). He suggested the Mayer OO was a special guitar which I really should consider. So I went to YouTube and watched as many reviews of the guitar I could find, and, although it's obviously dicey to rely too heavily on the sound quality and fidelity of a video, the guitar did seem to have something "extra." So I ordered it. I could not be happier. The beautiful guitar (despite its size) is not only a great Martin. - it is an absolutely incredible guitar, and it can more than hold its own against any of its "stable mates". It has a profound bass tone while maintaining the treble and mid-range balance you would expect from this size guitar. So all you high-rollers with your pre-war D-28s. - bring it on. Seriously, if you love Martin guitars, scrape together everything you can, negotiate a good deal, and buy this guitar. It would be the center of most Martin collections, and you will not regret it. Enjoy.
