Overview

GPC-MMVE Grand Performance Acoustic-Electric Guitar Natural is a Grand Performance cutaway version of the famous Martin Custom MMV Dreadnought Acoustic Guitar. Like its sibling, the Custom GPCC-MMVE features all-solid wood construction. It is made exactly like its big brother, using a solid Sitka spruce top, solid East Indian rosewood back and sides, and beautifully finished with a clear nitrocellulose lacquer finish. The body and fingerboard is bound with grained ivoroid binding for a very stylish vintage look.

Martin’s Grand Performance is a unique body design that blends a tight waist with a deep body. The end result is a tone that is well-defined, with a massive amount of power and projection. Its solid Sitka spruce top is braced perfectly to give you a rich, full-bodied tone that is versatile enough for any musical situation.

Notes are extremely even across the entire acoustic spectrum. What’s more, the Martin Simple Dovetail neck joint adds a tremendous amount of sustain to the tone; making it the ideal guitar to be heard accompanying your voice, playing with a band, at a coffeehouse, or in the track of your favorite song. With a sound all its own, the custom GPC-MMVE is a perfect addition to any fine acoustic guitar collection.

Comes with a Martin 375 hardshell case.

Electronics
The GPC-MMVE comes equipped with the revolutionary Fishman Matrix VT Enhanced. Fishman’s new Enhance Transducer is a bridge plate transducer that is mechanically and electrically optimized to bring out the sound of the body, and the dynamic and percussive elements of guitar playing. The Enhance Transducer is specially designed to capture the longitudinal energy (dynamic and percussive attack) of the guitar top while being highly resistant to the transverse energy that manifests in string squeak, body handling noise, and parasitic feedback.

The Enhance Transducer adds these body characteristics to the full spectrum audio performance of the Aura VT Enhance and Matrix VT Enhance to deliver a new level of sound quality and dynamic playing response. The result is a sound that is pure Martin, with more responsiveness to your playing dynamics and touch.

History of the Custom MMV Model
The MMV is a Martin custom dreadnought guitar that was created in 2005. Simply put, MMV is Roman Numerals for the number 2005, the year in which the guitar was created. From its conception, the Custom MMV Dreadnought Acoustic was designed to be a Nazareth-made, all-solid wood instrument that was priced significantly under what the player could purchase from the standard Martin price list. Martin wanted to offer the musician a chance to purchase a solid wood Martin guitar at a price that wouldn’t break the bank. They also wanted to come up with a sound that was slightly different from the more traditional Martin dreadnought guitars.

To begin with, they selected a nice piece of Sitka spruce as the tone engine for the guitar. Sitka was chosen because of its ability to capture the player's performance by accurately reproducing all the color and nuances in every note. The top was braced with one of Martin’s patented X-bracing patterns. The company departed, slightly, from Martin’s standard "X" pattern to "roll off" just the right amount of bass. The bass on the Custom MMV is perfectly blended to match the volume on the mids and treble frequencies, giving you an instrument that is both balanced and expressive.

To add the right amount of color, they fashioned the back and sides from solid East Indian rosewood. Using East Indian rosewood warmed up the sound of the top, much like that of a speaker cabinet. The combination of a Sitka spruce top and East Indian back and sides produces a guitar that is rich in color, yet extremely dynamic and expressive.

The neck joint of the guitar uses Martin’s Simple Dovetail. This is a glued neck-to-body joint that allows the guitar body and neck to resonate as one instrument. Much like the world’s finest string instruments, such as the Stradivarius and German double bases, you won’t find any bolts in this instrument. Its tight, wood-to-wood contact produces an incredible amount of sustain and tone.

The guitar’s body comes beautifully finished in nitrocellulose lacquer which was selected because this thin, multi-layered lacquer finish allows the wood to age and resonate naturally, allowing your guitar to breath.

Comments about Martin Custom GPC-MMVE Grand Performance Acoustic-Electric Guitar:

Playing off and on for 45 years. Have owned many acoustic and electrics, but never a Martin or Taylor. So, looking to spend 1500 to 2500 on a decent american made acoustic electric. This is even across the fretboard. Comfortable neck. Almost top of the line electronics. Aesthetically pleasing(the east indian rosewood back and sides are visually impressive, The cream neck binding works well. Top looks and sound the way a spruce top should. A wonderfully useful, playable and beautiful instrument at this price point. Highly recommended.

Comments about Martin Custom GPC-MMVE Grand Performance Acoustic-Electric Guitar:

I rated this only 4 stars because if you pat over $2000 for an instrument you'd think Martin would supply a higher quality hardshell case instead of his cheap $80 case

Comments about Martin Custom GPC-MMVE Grand Performance Acoustic-Electric Guitar:

I'm a multi-instrumentalist (guitar, keyboards, trumpet and other brass, and sax), so it can get expensive! Most of my guitars (Takamine 12 string, Takamine classical, American Strat, Ovation Elite) are in the 1k range, and were purchased for general purposes. But I had some recording and corresponding performances coming up that called for something really special, and I wanted to step up to a guitar that I really searched out and bought based on the beauty of the sound and the playability (as opposed to the more "practical" reasons for my other guitar purchases). I was willing to go up to around 3k, but was hoping to keep it around 2k.

I was looking for something with a warm, balanced sound, that had a beautiful ringing sound when strummed, and a distinctive clarity when fingerpicked. I found a lot of guitars leaned one way or the other, some brighter, some boomier; some sounded great strummed but lost clarity when picked, some really spoke when picked, but had a thinner sound when strummed.

Then I picked up this guitar, and took about thirty seconds to know this was it. It rings and resonates beautifully when strummed, and when picked it is expressive and distinct. A gorgeous balanced sound, not too boomy, not too much high end. Blends well with a full band, and as a solo instrument it shines. So easy to play, smooth as silk.

Not as much bass as some of the bigger Martin's, not as bright as the Taylor's. But if you are looking for a beautiful, balanced, warm sounding guitar for many playing and musical styles, I would highly recommend the Martin GPC-MMVE
