Comments about Martin Custom DSR Dreadnought Acoustic Guitar:

Man, I just have to say I am extremely happy I purchased this guitar! I spent months browsing around looking for "The One" and I found it in my DSR. If you're looking for something in the 1000-2000 dollar price range definitely take a look here. I played D28's, D35's, Gibson J15's, Taylor 100-300 series guitars, and Breedlove Oregon Concerts. Aside from the D35, I would honestly have to say this guitar was lights out. The finish on these is great and really seems to open up the sound a lot. The only other dreadnoughts I could think of coming close for the money might be Larevee. Anyways, if you're looking for one of these maybe buy used, if you do, you're hard pressed for a better find!

    Awesome Martin

Comments about Martin Custom DSR Dreadnought Acoustic Guitar:

I bought this guitar about a year and a half ago. It is one heck of a guitar. Definitely recommend anyone that is looking for a guitar in the $1000-2000 range to check it out. I have played 3 different DSR's and they all sounded great. The combination of the satin finish and the thin sides make the notes played ring out for days.

Comments about Martin Custom DSR Dreadnought Acoustic Guitar:

At Guitar Center one day playing their acoustics and came across the Martin DSR-GC. Apparently Martin made these models only for GC and Musicians Friend. Priced around $1200. Very crisp clear lows, highs and great ringing sustain. Couldn't really believe my ears at first when comparing it to even a D-28 and a Gibson J-45 that were also hanging on the wall. I sat there for over an hour just switching back and forth with the other guitars. Finally convinced myself that this particular DSR sounded more beautiful than all the others or anything else I had owned previously for that matter. The off the wall I was playing had a ding in the spruce top so they took a brand new DSR out from storage. I thought I would buy that but just to make sure I compared it to the demo model I had been playing. Couldn't believe it. The demo sounded so much better in comparison to the brand new identical DSR so I said the hell with it I'll just take demo with the ding in it. They took $100 off the price for the ding and I left a very happy customer with one of the best sounding guitars I had ever played. I know Most folks already know this but I can't stress enough to play and compare as many identical models as possible to make sure you know what your getting (as opposed to just buying one from a mail order dealer and crossing your fingers hoping you will get a good one)

Comments about Martin Custom DSR Dreadnought Acoustic Guitar:

I went to G.C. expecting to buy a Martin MMV and was blown away buy the sound of this guitar I didnt find any Martin or Taylor that outplayed it for under $2300 it just wasn't as pretty. I would describe it as Loud, Crisp, and Bass-ey. I have played older D 28s and D 35s and this sounds just as nice to me and louder . I have had it almost 5 years and the sounds getting better. The only problem I have had with it is the action getting high and needing some saddle adjustment due to swings in humidity. Nothing I can blame on the instrument just on the guy caring for it.

The best Martin I have owned

          By rick

          from Warwick, RI

Comments about Martin Custom DSR Dreadnought Acoustic Guitar:

I have owned several Martins over the years, D-28 and a Martin Eric Clapton edition to name a couple and I have to say this is my favorite. From the soft satin finish to the amazing tone this Martin cannot be beat! The fact that the price is so reasonable for an American made Martin is just an extra bonus. I went into Guitar Center with about 5 grand in my pocket to spend on a new Martin and I was not looking at prices, only the sound and this one stood above the rest! I would highly recommend this guitar to anyone, from pro to beginner. GO BUY THIS GUITAR! You will be so happy that you did!

          Great find

          By Rod Maestas

          from Austin, Texas

Comments about Martin Custom DSR Dreadnought Acoustic Guitar:

I really love this guitar. The thing I like the most is the feel of the neck and the tone. I came into Guitar Center just to "dream" one late evening. I went into the acoustic room and started playing some really expensive Martins that played ok but nothing that really grabbed my attention. I then noticed a guitar hanging in the Martin section that had a rosewood fingerboard. Most acoustics have ebony these days. I'm a big fan of rosewood fingerboards on electrics. I picked it up and one strum really got my attention. Great very pronounced and loud sound from an acoustic. It really felt good playing it as well. I looked at the price tag expecting something over $2000 and was shocked at the $1199 price. I then thought that the back and sides must be laminate for this price but then read that it had solid rosewood back and sides! I went to the counter and bought it! I could not believe I was going to bring home a Martin. I had a really good Martin Case from the cheapo martin I already owned so they knocked off $119 from the price. I also later traded in my DX1 to GS to help pay for the DSRGC. 3 months later and i still love this guitar. I am a songwriter and have a pro home recording studio. The DX1 just was not cutting it for playability and sound. I use a Groove Tubes GT67 tube mic about a foot away from the 12th fret and run it through an LA-610 pre rolling off -1.5 at 70HZ and boosting 10k by +3. The sound is simply amazing. The song I am working on now was going to have acoustic and electric rhythm tracks but I decided to just use two tracks played on the DSR. Love the sound.

          I love my Martin

          By Sandy Johnson

Comments about Martin Custom DSR Dreadnought Acoustic Guitar:

I picked this guitar up at GC back in 2008, and it is still by far my favorite. Over the last 5 years the sounds has gotten even better, and all my friends fall in love with it when they play it. Had to adjust the action when I first got it, because Martin loves to have their new guitars with 1" high action. Natural finish allows this guitar to resonate. I'll put this against any high end Taylor or Gibson.

          Can't put this guitar down!

          By Don Kerrigan

          from Pottsville, PA

Comments about Martin Custom DSR Dreadnought Acoustic Guitar:

I am 48 years old and have been playing on and off since I'm 14. I haven't played much over the last few years due to having very active children and work commitments. I was at my sisters house on the Fourth of July and my nephew brought out his guitar and I played terribly! My nephew told me I needed to start practicing to get to his level so we could jam. I couldn't believe that he had passed me up. ( I taught him a lot when he first started playing) I went to the a local music store to get new strings for my old Aria acoustic and I was looking at the Martins. I had always wanted one because a friend of mines dad had one when we were young and I remembered how great it sounded and how easy it was to play. I asked the sales rep if I could play one. BIG mistake - it sounded so good and played so much better than my Aria that I couldn't stop thinking about it. I was looking online on GC website and saw that they were running a special financing deal - 18 months same as cash. I drove to the nearest GC which was an hour from my house and played about 10 different guitars but I kept coming back to the DSR, I loved the sound. The only problem was it did not play nearly as well as the one I had played at the local music store. I told the sales rep if he could make it play as well as the one I had previously played I would buy it. He had the guitar tech do a set up on it and I was sold! I have played that guitar for everyday for the last 2 months and I love it! I got together with my nephew last week to play and I'm proud to say he told me "Wow uncle Don, you got your chops back! I'm back in love with playing music and its all because of my Martin DSR!

          Resonant-a-licious

          By Tyson Ouellette

          from Maine

Comments about Martin Custom DSR Dreadnought Acoustic Guitar:

I was finally ready to purchase a high quality acoustic after having played a budget Oscar-Schmidt(Washburn) for years, and originally went in looking for a more lower mid-range acoustic-electric model, thinking I'd buy the DRS-1 or DRS-2, but was not at all impressed with their sound for the price. I then tried every guitar in the store $1200 and under, and I kept picking up this Custom D over and over and over between trying other models, mostly Taylor and Martins, and nothing compared. The weight is perfect, the mix of solid woods is absolutely beautiful, the neck and fretboard are like butter, I mean nearly effortless. The spruce, rosewood, and mahogany combo smells wonderful as you're playing and air is moved through the body. The best feature of this guitar? The resonance. The entire guitar hums and some frequencies resonate through your entire torso, it's exhilarating. Sustain is incredible and the volume you can get out of it is almost surprising, if you play hard this is a very loud dread. How an instrument feels and sounds to you as the player is more important than brand recognition, or fancy inlays, or what people say you should get. That being said,if you're looking to make the upgrade to a solid wood instrument but aren't in a position to drop $1500+, my opinion is that one of these GC Custom Ds is the way to go. It's beautiful while also being modest, and acoustically out-performs anything else in its price range that I've tried. If you're prepared to spend close to $1000, consider going the little extra and try one of these out. I sincerely doubt you will be disappointed. I am 100% satisfied with this guitar and will have it for a very long time.
