i bought this product online from guitar center in new jersey. i really like the fact that it is a smaller scale and it is easy to play with small hands. easy take along guitar with ample sound for its size, it did suprise me! i recently installed a barcus berry pickup in it and it just made it even better. excellent action and playablity right out of the box. perfect! i would definately suggest it to a friend as i already have!

The backpacker left hand guitar is a pretty good item for what you are paying for. I mean it;s very inexpensive and gets the work done fairly well for events like campfires and easy travel. after a while though the action on it will become terrible so i will suggest continuous care of the guitar which is the only reason I'm giving it 3 stars. Overall though i would so for light travel and outdoor small events this is the ideal guitar to use when you're not scared of it getting a little dirty.

Good for what it is

By Josh Patterson

from Buffalo, NY

Comments about Martin Backpacker Nylon String Left-Handed Acoustic Guitar:

Not bad for what it is. If you are expecting that trademark Martin sound, you are going to be a little dissapointed. But it is what it is. It's a backpacker guitar, just for messing around at a campfire. You don't get that bold bassy Martin sound, it's a thin body with a weird shape to it, and it reminds me more of a cheaper thin body Fender acoustic.

Not a bad idea

By Andrew

from Orange County, Ca

Comments about Martin Backpacker Nylon String Left-Handed Acoustic Guitar:

Martin is known for it's legendary guitars, but I must say they didn't quite hit it with this one. I found this guitar impossible to play sitting down due to the awkward shape of the body. I get what they were "going for" but if your looking for a good travel guitar I would go with a LX1 Little Martin Acoustic Guitar.

Martin Steel String Back Packer

By Mike Mohler

from TX

Comments about Martin Backpacker Nylon String Left-Handed Acoustic Guitar:

I travel for business and decided that a travel guitar would be useful to fill the "dead time" in the hotel. This guitar is very light and comes with a nice case. It is a little larger than I wanted, but the sound is better than the other travel guitar I tried out-a Johnson traveler. The Martin will not as good as a full size guitar, but for the portability, I can live with that. Since I am left-handed, my choice for inexpensive travel guitars was limited. I've been happy with my Martin Backpacker.

Martin Steel String Backpacker

By Ryan Grove

from Battle Creek, MI

Comments about Martin Backpacker Nylon String Left-Handed Acoustic Guitar:

This guitar is a very nice portable guitar. I don't know if I would take it backpacking but if you wanted something more compact to take somewhere this is your guitar. For the size and shape it has a very good sound. It is pretty easy to play also but I would still go with a regular acoustic guitar but it is very nice for what is was made for.

Not bad

By Ray

from Chicago, IL

Comments about Martin Backpacker Nylon String Left-Handed Acoustic Guitar:

The guitar itself isn't really made for playing but as most know just for travel and it does a job of that. Its really compact so you can bring it almost anywhere and it doesn't sound half bad really. Sure its no sound of a real acoustic but it will get the job done when practicing is needed to be done whilst on a trip

Comments about Martin Backpacker Nylon String Left-Handed Acoustic Guitar:

Great guitar for the price. Sound is great for how small it is. My only real complaint is the weight distribution of the setup. Very top heavy and you have to wear a strap to play with. Quiet enough for in home practice and can be loud for playing outside or with friends. Get a lot of strange looks on the guitar but always impressed with the sound and action. Going on 2 years with this bad boy, no intentions on selling it. Very easy to travel with and stays in tune fairly well. Highly recommend

Tough

By Yancey Duplantis

from Houma, LA

Comments about Martin Backpacker Nylon String Left-Handed Acoustic Guitar:

I purchased this guitar as a travel guitar. Something I can take to the office, friends house, wherever. Heck, I might even take this thing fishing redfish with me. It's tough as well. I was standng in my daughter's garage with the guitar improperly strapped on. The top of the strap came off the button (my fault) and the guitar fell head first into the concrete. I cringed. The only damage sustained was cosmetic. It was only a small flat spot at the corner of the head. This guitar mey not have the base of my Epiphone PR-5, but its great to practice on at the office. I ordered the Compadre guitar rest for it. It works great! I have to admit; I've been playing this guitar almost exclusively. I originally ordered a Washburn Rover in Left Hand. When I received it, it was right handed. I called and informed them that it was my birthday present and I was disappointed in receiving a guitar that I couldn't play (I'm not Jimi Hendrix). They told me that it was their mistake because the Rover didn't come in a left-handed model. He told me he would sell me the Martin for the same price as the Rover. Man, I'm glad that Washburn didn't come in left-handed. Thanks Guitar Center for making it right! I'm very pleased with the Martin for what I bought it for. Happy Birthday to me!

Handy

By Yancey Duplantis

from Houma, LA

Comments about Martin Backpacker Nylon String Left-Handed Acoustic Guitar:

I bought this guitar as an office guitar. I wanted something I could practice at work with. It definitely fills the bill. It has good sound and playability. The action is a little high, but not too much to play effectively. It was a good purchase.

Excellent sound and great action

By Erin Bradley

from Fredericksburg, VA

Comments about Martin Backpacker Nylon String Left-Handed Acoustic Guitar:

Purchased a used one first and it was great, but it didn't come with a bag. Swapped it for a new one with no problems from the staff; they bent over backward to make me happy. The guitar itself has wonderful sound...it seems slightly improved over the older used one. The neck is thinner, but the head is bigger in a good way. The new one seems to have a slightly improved sound, better overtones. And the action is better; I would hve modified the old one.

A Little Sweetheart

By Peter Matthews

from New York, NY

Comments about Martin Backpacker Nylon String Left-Handed Acoustic Guitar:

We live in a mobile world. The Backpacker is like an iPad for guitarists. In fact, I throw my tablet in the pouch and I'm out for the day. Everyone thinks it's some exotic string instrument -- it does look cool hanging on my wall, it complements my African mask collection. Sound, action is fine. At first it was awkward to play sitting down, but I've found my spot to get leverage, I rest it more inside the thigh than on top. Standing up, it's very sweet - the lightness and form factor make the Backpacker more of an extension of my body than my other guitars. I have to keep my fingernails short or I'll tear the light wood fingerpicking, so I keep a nail clipper in the pouch. It's short up the neck, just a minor third above the octave - on just one piece I play, I had to rewrite one phrase, but otherwise I don't find that a problem, playing blues and folk. The big plus is that it's so easy to take with you. The Backpacker enriches my summer and fall, playing outdoors much more often. It's a mobile world. The coolness factor counts. And I'm more than satisfied with it as an instrument. She's a little sweetheart! 5 Stars!
