Comments about Martin 16 Series D-16RGT Dreadnought Guitar:

I got the chance to borrow this guitar from a friend for a few weeks so I figured I would give my opinion: So, I'll get the obvious out of the way: the fit and finish is of a quality that should be expected when paying this much. The neck feels good in the hand (though a little thin for my taste), and the action is nice and playable. However, guitars are for making music and that's where this guitar falters. Open chords sound okay and if someone was just demoing in store I can understand why they would be woo'd by this instrument. After playing this guitar for some time though the g, b, and e strings just sound so dead; and as you work you're way up the neck all the sustain just disappears. All in all, if your ego can handle playing a guitar without wood herringbone rosettes and a martin sticker, a guitar of this caliber can be had for much less (think 700-1000). There are definitely much more musical alternatives out there for 1500.

You won't be disappointed...

Comments about Martin 16 Series D-16RGT Dreadnought Guitar:

Already own a 000X1 which my daughter now plays. I've been in the market for a dreadnaught and have gone back and forth between Martin and Taylor. Make no mistake...both make great guitars. However, after trying out a bunch of different models, it became crystal clear that when you buy a Martin, you're buying a unique sound that Taylor just can't match. I love my D-16. It's beautifully made and sounds as good when fingerpicked as it does flatpicked. This guitar also represents an exceptional value. You can't go wrong....

Outstanding Guitar

Comments about Martin 16 Series D-16RGT Dreadnought Guitar:

I've had this guitar for a year now and every time I play it, I'm still amazed at the sound it produces. The very first time I opened the case I was in awe at the beauty and smell of the wood. With a sitka spruce top and indian rosewood sides and back, you get the ideal balance of powerful lows notes and clear, vibrant high notes. In addition, all of the frets project clearly and sustain well without any annoying fret buzz. I have several friends who play the guitar and all of them have said they love the sound, feel, and appearance of my guitar. I have played other high end Taylors and high end Martins, but they don't even compare to the overall quality of this D16rgt. If you're looking for a high-quality guitar at a reasonable price, look no further than this Martin D16rgt, you won't be disappointed.

Tried them all and then bought this...

Comments about Martin 16 Series D-16RGT Dreadnought Guitar:

The best advice I have received on buying a guitar is to try them all and decide. And thats what I did with this guitar. A week after buying it I attended a Martin clinic and couldn't have been happier after learning more about them. Lets see, invented the steel string guitar, invented the dreadnought style, invented bracing technics all manufacturers still use to day. Amazing. Here's what I learned about this guitar vs. the D28 big brother that make it more affordable: 1) Mortise and Tenon neck - This is much more economic to produce at the factory vs. Dove Tail. There is a debate on what sounds better but considering every single Taylor is bolt on neck (much more economic), do you really think the sound is better? I don't. And Martin doesn't. 2) Satin finish on back and sides - The same amount of nitrocellulous lacquer is used on both (6-7 coats) but satin dries faster. Time is money. 3) Micarta finger board vs. Ebony. 4) Top wood - Best of the best VISUALLY go to the D28 but ALL top woods are tested and are equal in wood quality. 5) Nut, Saddle, Bridge, etc. are less expensive pieces on the D-16 series. 6) Bracing - The mortise and tenon neck requires some different bracing vs. the dove tail. The interesting note is that the D16 line has scalloped bracing similar to the higher end HD-28. Whats the same: 1) Top - Tested Sitka Spruce. 2) Back and Sides - book matched East Indian Rosewood. 3) Look - same level of appointments and color of binding. 4) Each guitar is made by hand in the factory side by side with every other Martin made in Nazareth Pennsylvania. Hope that helps everyone. Get out and play these and they will speak for themselves.

Great Acoustic

Comments about Martin 16 Series D-16RGT Dreadnought Guitar:

i just picked this guitar up from guitar center during their labor day sale and i was blown away. i played all types of taylors, martins, and gibsons and this one was the best for the price. there are many guitars that are $5000 and up and they have the same tone as this. just a heads up, make sure you tune a guitar before you decide to buy it because when i first picked up this guitar i was not happy with it then i tuned it and it was like night and day. i strongly recommend this guitar

Comments about Martin 16 Series D-16RGT Dreadnought Guitar:

Tried the mmv,d-28,d35,d16,d18.I wont lie to you the d-28 sounded the best with this d16rgt being a close 2nd I can tell you the d28 wasn't worth the G note more then this guitar. Build quality is superb. sound is deffinetly that martin sound.Great job with micarta fretboard i was skeptical about this But i almost feel that its faster and have learned to love it. If your on the fence come down from there already and buy it cause it frickin rocks.

Best bang for the bucks

By Anonymous

Comments about Martin 16 Series D-16RGT Dreadnought Guitar:

I tried out a number of Martin guitars - custom-35, D-15 Mahagony, D-16 GT, D-18, DM, DR, D-16 R, and decided to take a chance and get this one special ordered - sight unseen. Wow, was I blown away by not only the looks and quality craftsmanship, but the sound is to die for! Took it to my first jam and EVERYONE there kept commenting on the wonderful, full sound - booming bass and clear, bright trebles. Have taken it to several more different jams, and I keep getting the same comments. Everyone wants to try it out and keep making the same comments about it. Had bought a DM, but after a week decided to trade up to the D-16RGT. I don't have a single regret!
