Overview

The Martin 15 Series D-15M acoustic guitar looks like it came right out of the history books, and delivers a sound for the ages. In its 175-year history, Martin has set more guitar design trends than can be counted. The company still embraces design techniques introduced many years ago to create their guitars' timeless tone.

Built on a dreadnought platform, the Martin 15 Series D-15M guitar boasts 14 open frets for a unique design and great range of tone. The top, back, and sides are genuine solid mahogany, offering strong guitar tone, with crisp, clear subtleties in each note's definition. One of mahogany's finest qualities is its density. Although it's not the hardest tonewood, it is free of air pockets and other deformities.

The vintage sound produced by the Martin 15 Series D-15M acoustic guitar is reminiscent of the Style 15 Martin guitars made popular during the 1940s. The Martin guitar is equipped with a mortise and tennon neck joint, offering the best wood binding practice ever conceived. Often used for shipbuilding, the process fuses two pieces of wood into a single, sturdy unit that stands up to the elements time and time again. The results are evident with the strength in tone and power in projection that you hear with each strum of this Martin acoustic guitar.

The Martin guitar's solid mahogany neck further complements the crisp, defined acoustic sound of this dreadnought. The bridge and fingerboard are solid East Indian rosewood, adding smooth sustain to the mix. The 14 open frets, 1-11/16 in. nut width, 2-1/8" bridge string spacing, and 16 in. radius add comfort for your intricate fingerboard movements.

Other appointments include a single-ring rosette, bone nut, solid/square taper headstock, solid East Indian rosewood headplate, diamonds and square fingerboard inlay, belly-style bridge, nickel open-geared tuning machines with butterbean knobs, and a solid black ebony bridge and end pins. Dressed in a soft satin finish and featuring a Delmar tortoise color pickguard, the Martin D15M guitar glows with classic vintage looks and sound.

Includes a Martin 345 hardshell guitar case.

Martin Dreadnought
The very first dreadnought guitars were designed and crafted by C. F. Martin & Co. in 1916, but marketed in Boston and New York exclusively under the Oliver Ditson brand. Originally made for Hawaiian slide playing style, the very first dreadnought made was a Model 222 shipped to Ditson in August of 1916. After Ditson went out of business in the early 1930s, Martin introduced the D-1 and D-2 dreadnoughts for standard playing style that would soon become Martin’s iconic D-18 and D-28 models. Over the past 100 years, the Martin dreadnought has helped define what an acoustic guitar can and should be, and subsequently, it has become one of the most popular acoustic guitar designs in the world.

D-15M just received

By Mark

from PA

Comments about Martin 15 Series D-15M Dreadnought Acoustic Guitar:

Had a really lousy guitar since I was a kid, decided to get back into playing a bit by special ordering this D-15M through Guitar Center. So this is not an expert opinion, but since there are no reviews, figured I would offer one. Guitar looks and sounds great. Smells like you are playing a chocolate bar inside of a cigar box - I stick my nose in and breathe in deeply every time I take it out of the case - it is great. I don't think anyone would be disappointed with this guitar, so if it is in your budget, go for it. I liked the differences from the D-15, feel like if you are spending a grand on a guitar, a little more for these features is worth it. Strange to me that some people think it is too "plain" looking - personally I am not really into having a mother of pearl inlay shaped like a dragon on my fretboard, but to each his own I guess.

Not dissappointed

By Joe

from Longview, TX

Comments about Martin 15 Series D-15M Dreadnought Acoustic Guitar:

I've played guitar for a long time, and have played a lot of really high end guitars, but never owned a solid wood guitar. I've wanted a D-15 for a long time, and was not dissappointed. I just got it yesterday. It was set up perfectly right out of the box. Perfect action. No buzz whatsoever. You can really feel the bass in your chest when you play. Nice deep bass, but not muddy. Very clear sound. Of course it sounds good when you really dig into it, but I was surprised how good it sounded fingerstyle. Nice dark sound, but still clear. I'll hang onto this one for a long time.

Luthier's Take on Very Impressive Budget Guitar

By Daniel Bombliss

from Minneapolis, MN

Comments about Martin 15 Series D-15M Dreadnought Acoustic Guitar:

First off, I'm a luthier/guitar tech at one of the guitar centers, but please note that does not at all affect my rating or input on this guitar. When I'm not working on customer guitars, I'm scoping out the store owned to keep them playing well. With that said, I get alot of time playing and feeling out all of the acoustic guitars in the store. Generally, I do not like new Martins, I'm more of a Taylor guy. To me I feel the newer Martins aren't very consistent in which ones have "the sound", which someone could argue all day long, but it's very seldom that I find a brand NEW Martin that I really like, despite the price tag, and so far we've had 2 of these in (Which both sold extremely quickly) and they've both been phenomenal, and I was disappointed both times that I didn't buy that 1 Martin that I actually loved. The 3rd one I'll get to play should be in next week or so, so I'll know better on consistency there, but I'm confident they are very nice. They are braced up with one of Martin's hybrid bracing patterns, called the A Frame X bracing patter. With that said, basically this guitar is a very light weight, lightly braced guitar. Very loud, very responsive, and just to pick it up, you can feel that it's going to have alot of sound. My personal favorite new guitar is the Taylor 814CE marked at 3k. We also have the Martin D28, HD28, HD28V, and all the other martins. I set this guitar on a stand, and grabbed 1 of the 2 814CE's that we had, and I prefered this to both (Being 1/3rd the cost says alot) I played it right next to all 3 of the D 28 variants we had (playing the same chords) and it just seemed to "have it" more to me. I may be finding that my personal preference is an all mahogany big bodied instrument (As I haven't had an 00015m to try yet) but, for 1150 I'm blown away, and as I'm not the sales guy, I almost hesitate to recommend this guitar in store, because I want to bring it home myself, and I never know what the next one in will sound like. Take my words as you will, but via the GC website, I highly recommend this guitar. I'm confident there isn't much that touches it for the price.

Comments about Martin 15 Series D-15M Dreadnought Acoustic Guitar:

Went to Guitar Center to try one of these but they did not have one in stock, I played the 00015m and took it home, but less than a week later I was ready to return it, very nice guitar just not for my style of playing.
Called the store again, still did not have one, but another store did so I drove there and picked up the only one that had. it was a demo model had some marks and the strings were rusted, , they gave me some new strings and I went home wiped it down and replaced the strings and never looked back. This thing plays and sounds like a dream, I am in "hog heaven" I would highly recommend you try this guitar.

    Entry Level Perfection

    By Michael Kahut

    from Portland, Oregon

Comments about Martin 15 Series D-15M Dreadnought Acoustic Guitar:

This is my first Martin guitar and my experience with it, however short, has been fantastic. I'll be checking out other Martin instruments soon! The sales person described the D15M as an "entry level" guitar. If you classify guitars by price, I suppose this would be true, although there are cheaper guitars out there. Maybe he meant it was an entry level Martin. In any event, don't let the price sway you. The tone, playability and quality of this "entry level" dreadnought is amazing. I have 2 other guitars but this one seems to get the most playing time just because it sounds soooo good. I've owned this guitar for 3 months and it is just beginning to open up some and I look forward to hearing it continue to blossom into a fine guitar. So don't judge a guitar by it's price. If you are in the market for a good guitar and don't want to spend a fortune, you definitely want to include this instrument when you go shopping!

    Amazing

    By Taylor

    from San Diego, CA

Comments about Martin 15 Series D-15M Dreadnought Acoustic Guitar:

I've had this one for about a month now and have not been displeased by it in anyway. Amazing sound, tone, feel, craftsmanship quality all around. Even the case was awesome. I bought this and thought to myself, I wont ever need another acoustic. Before buying this, I had a Seagull S6 and I played them side by side for 2 hours. I even had a random guy at guitar center playing the same chord progression. I played probably 6 different Martin's and 3 Taylor's before deciding on the best quality for the money. You will not regret this purchase.

I would give it 10 Stars if I could

    By Craig Drooger

    from Tampabay, Fl

Comments about Martin 15 Series D-15M Dreadnought Acoustic Guitar:

Just got this for a replacement of my 30 year old Yari. Did not want to take that on camping trips anymore to old and I am afraid something might happen too it. The main problem is trying to find something that sounded somewhere close to a 30 year old sweet sounding guitar. The Yari is all Mahogany too, so that was a plus. As soon as I played the first chord I new it had that sweet tone, which is unbelievable for a brand new guitar. If you haven't tried one search it out, it will be well worth your time.

    Fantastic Guitar

    By James Shipman

    from Lake Toxaway NC

Comments about Martin 15 Series D-15M Dreadnought Acoustic Guitar:

I just got my Martin D 15 yesterday and I absolutely LOVE this guitar. It was in tune even...lol Seriously though, this thing has the sweetest tone. The lows are clear and the highs are clean. Its loud if you bare down on it, but its just a really great guitar. I love the old vintage look, and its a perfect guitar if you love to play blues. I highly recommend this guitar. It plays and sounds as good as any other Ive tried. Of course Id love to have the EC Martin, but until I hit the lotto, this one will be just fine.

Well I'm a Martin Guy for the rest of my life.....

    By Ric Clifton

    from Chicago, IL

Comments about Martin 15 Series D-15M Dreadnought Acoustic Guitar:

My opinion may not carry the heaviest weight, as I've been a drummer since 8 years and only within the past 6 months started playing guitar. Living in a condo and being a drummer don't always go hand in hand. So I started out with a Dean Performer after playing some hand me downs...don't get me wrong, I love that guitar. But then I stumbled in to a Guitar Center this past week and played the D15M. My fingers are bleeding after the past few days. For the price, this guitar has amazing sounds. Reacts well when you lay in to it, but plays light when necessary, a lot of control. The sound is rich, deep....just beautiful. I've played for hours on end the past few days and am glad I made the purchase b/c it's made playing that much more enjoyable to play. Definitely a proud Martin owner and will be one for life.
